Most anime intros are written as pop songs and attached to the anime by the music company that is a member of the production committee. They give the anime its background music tracks for either free or a drastically reduced price, and in return are able to stick a pop song by one of their artists as the opening credits and closing credits. And if the show takes off (like Demon Slayer did a few years back), it can make the artist blow up big and the put the song on the best-seller lists for weeks. That's how it usually goes. That said, Bocchi the Rock isn't like that. All of the songs but the ending song for episode 12 were written specifically for the show by mostly female singer-songwriters, and they were all vetted to make sure they sound like rock songs that a band of talented high-school-age girls might write in the Shimo-Kitazawa style of rock. And they were all written as if Bocchi was writing the lyrics. Most of them, including the opening, were written from the point of view of a lonely girl. (The music is supposedly by Ryo, so the music might not match the generally downbeat lyrics.) There was an interview with the writer of the music of a song coming up in episode 8, and she said she figured it was an anime song, so she wrote it with a lot of hooks. The producers of Bocchi sent it back to her asking her to rewrite it taking out the hooks because a band of teenage girls wouldn't be quite that sophisticated.

I was worried when I started watching these that you'd just be hating on the show, but you being tsundere about your enjoyment of it is stellar.

It is around a 5/10 objectively, so not exactly wrong anyway.

@@HiddenStr3ngth that is not how objective works. Anime is judged by taste and opinion not some math equation. Like all art.

@@kenziewatchesstuff Even if it was judged with some mathematical equation, I have faith in the mathematicians of this generation to not be as, I'll dare say, objectively wrong as @HiddenStr3ngth. The absolute minimum I'm willing to accept is 7, and even then, it would be after doing some bell curve normalisation stuff like those they do with the IQ tests.

I think a lot of OPs are focused on appealing to as many people as possible to draw in viewership. The ED plays only after you finish the episode, so it can more easily afford to match the tone and theme of the story.

The psychotic laugh at the end still gets me every time I hear it. Just one of the many reasons I love this anime... Wait, no! Of course I don't like it! I only watch real action anime after all, not silly girl-stuff like this one!

this episode reaction make me think about strange things, for exemple what if you take the song Ameno from Era and in the refrain you change every lyrics by the word synonymous.

to be fair, opening's lyrics are quite bocchi-like. to me it sounds rather celebratory of the fact she's growing and making friends, so i can't fully agree with you on this one
