After doing some digging on the apt I found this out in joy Madame de Florian was just 23 years old when she fled her Paris home in 1939. The Germans were advancing on the city and they had to leave everything behind. She made her new home in the free zone, outside of Nazi-occupied France, but never returned to her old apartment. It wasn’t until her death in 2010 that her family discovered that she had still been paying rent on the apartment her entire life. An auctioneer, Olivier Choppin-Janvry, was sent to inventory her abandoned home, and what he found was beyond their wildest dreams. Inside the apartment they found priceless art and many other items that offer a very rare glimpse into the past. Madame de Florian’s vanity mirror still waits for her, complete with lotions and potions of all sorts. A vintage Mickey Mouse keeps Porky Pig company in one corner, waiting for a child to come play with them once more. This stunning Belle Epoque-era painting of Madame de Florian’s mother Marthe was painted by the Italian legend Giovanni Boldini. The painting of Boldini ended up selling for $3.4 million at auction. The juicy revelation that the two had been lovers strengthened interest in the piece. The entire apartment is a lovely and tragic monument to a bygone era.

@@michelefred68 It was her heirs (family) that opened the apartment and arranged for any sales. I am sure they kept some things but for the most part I believe they sold a lot so the estate could be distributed in accordance with her wishes.

This would be my ultimate dream come true to find something like this. The closest I have come is when a friend who remodeled on a job noticed the house was smaller inside in one side. She took done the wall to find a completely hidden turn of the century nursey and child's room FULL just as if they built it yesterday and walked out. Come to find out 100 yrs back the owners had a child that died before the age of two and they where so distraught they closed the doors with everything inside and literally walled the rooms off from the rest of the inside of the house and it stayed a secret all those years. The new owners never knowing it was there.

It was opened because the lady that owned it, a lady that left Paris in wwii and settled in the South OF France where she inherited the apartment from her father in the 1960's, died. She has kept hold of the appartment because she thought she might return someday. Because she died she stopped paying rent. I gess her heirs opened it up and discovered the time casual.

For those who are interested the apartment was opened by her heirs after her death. They then brought in experts to evaluate the contents which formed a part of their inheritance. While she never lived there again it is incorrect to say that it was never used but rather nothing was changed. There were papers dated 1955 found and her father was recorded as having died there in 1966.
@moredandelionwine69904 жыл бұрын
This story is SUPER interesting to read about however I highly recommend just googling the story and reading parts of a book written about this online. This video is very misleading and a lot of this info in incorrect. She died in this apartment witnessed by her son in 1939, and her son lived in this apartment himself until his death in 1966. It was inherited by HIS daughter at that time who made rental payments on it until she passed a few years ago. Kind of not as untouched as you think but definitely still so incredibly cool.

it's funny. Part of this video is truthful, part of it is poorly researched. Dame Marthe de Florian did not abandon but did die in the apartment on 29 August 1939; her son, Henri Beaugiron (Marthe's last name at birth) witnessed her death and signed the certificate. The woman the narrator is talking about is most likely Solange Beaugiron, who was of the age mentioned and had inherited it from her father, Henri, but it was never her apartment, as she (as author Solange Bellegard) had left for the Nice area. Here's the thing, though: Henri died in the apartment in 1966, and there were papers in the apartment dating as late as 1955, so the apt. was most definitely NOT locked for 70 years...Henri, then Solange, had made sure the bills were paid. There was no reason to enter. I think FV should do a little more research.
