Ingrid Pitt and Jon Pertwee had appeared together in a 1971 film called ‘The House That Dripped Blood’, so this was a reunion for them. ETA: the film was made by Amicus Productions who also made the Peter Cushing Dalek films

That film was totally him sending up his character of the Third Doctor from the costume to the car! Lol

It's a great film. The waxwork segment is particularly chilling

My favorite moment is when the Master tries to hypnotize King Dalios and fails miserably! Some very good lines there in their little tête-à-tête.

It's nice to have a character that the Master can't easily sway.

Love Ingrid pitt, she had a truly terrible early life, and pulled her self up by her own boot straps. This, her first doctor appearance is definitely her best.

Whereas her second appearance... 😬🤐
@crustychris2Күн бұрын
@Polyglot85to90 I like to put that down to dodgy writing, and poor direction 😉

I love how the Master's TARDIS didn't change shape. Missed opportunity, or it didn't matter as far as the Master knowing the locals? Nah, it didn't change shape and it was a gaffe LOL. Also, this episode has lots of grapes and chicken legs 😅

The 3rd Doctor doesn't time travel into the past very much, but this is one of them.
@davidbull7210Ай бұрын
The massive grapes are the only redeeming feature of these last two parts.
@crustychris2Ай бұрын
Each to their own, but I love all of this story 😅
@MichaelPhillipsatGreyOwlStudioАй бұрын
And the massive gripes are the least redeeming feature!
@davidbull7210Ай бұрын
Sadly it's far easier to group the gripes than grope the grapes.

I actually prefer the Atlantis segment of the story - it is rather stagy in look and direction, but at least everyone seems to be taking things a bit more seriously at this point, and you start to feel that something really is at stake. George Cormack is very good as the King, and I like the Master taking on a cad persona to seduce the Queen. The maid is played by Susan Penhaligon, who would become quite a big star during the 70s and 80s in shows like Bouquet of Barbed Wire.

Season Nine Review question! This time last year you were midway through season 6 The Invasion. So which story in the last 12 months has imprinted itself on your brains an why?
@gordonw.8831Ай бұрын
Why does everyone get the plural of TARDIS wrong. It's TARDES, like thesis and theses. 😂😂
@TheShallowProclamationАй бұрын
Makes them sound like they're always late. Which is ironic for time machines.

Ingrid Pitt brings charisma to Queen Galleia: not just her physical presence but far more importantly her regal arrogance and bearing; and Roger Delgado convinces in his cynical seduction; but you sense again in his attempt to manipulate her and King Dalios that Delgado’s Master is as usual biting off more than he can chew.

I quite liked the scene with that other fella (whose names eludes me right now) who said he mistook her for someone he used to know. Nicely conveyed how she had been changed by her role as Queen. It's quite brief, but nicely done.

It has echoes from Shakespeare; not of a romantic relationship/betrayal but of the betrayal of a friendship when Prince Hal rejects his friend/carousing companion, the knight Sir John Falstaff, when the Prince becomes Henry the Fifth.
