You must have been in heaven with those hoodies relatively close and doing their posing and crayfish catching! Awesome shots and vids.

Beautiful shots of the Mallard in-flight and the Hooded Mergansers. Nice captures of the Kingfisher as well. The Kingfisher is my nemesis bird! I like that you can fit the 500 and both cameras in the bag. Also like the top access to the gear. Excellent captures Brent!

Thanks for the video! This brings back memories. I used to love going to the wildlife management ponds at Tingley Beach when I lived in Albuquerque. Never thought of the area as sketchy though.

Oh nice! It really is a great place to explore. I've been robbed there and have gotten into some fights and had a few sketchy encounters there over the last 20 years, but I still love it. (I used to live on family housing at UNM for grad school for 5 years). Just gotta be a little careful sometimes, especially when parking in the back of the dirt parking lots there just south of the main one by center. They do have roving security guards out there most of the time during the day now, which is nice, but doesn't help for super early mornings or night.

Great location to get some photography time in. I was there in December when my mom was visiting from Alaska. Beautiful shots!

I LOVE Tenba bags after discovering them a couple years ago. And, I bought my first one because I wanted a top-access, long-lens bag. It is perfect! Since then, I bought a second, slightly bigger bag that will hold two Canon cameras and an assortment of lenses for astro. I can put everything in it I need and it still isn't beyond my weight carrying capacity as a 70 yr old woman. I'm a happy camper!

Oh that's awesome to hear! I've bought a few of their bags over the last 15 years or so and they're all rock solid still.

I carry over 2 stone ..how much do you carry for 6- 8hrs on aby given day ?? .. The padding on the shoulder straps is it actually vfm is it properly padded to endure carrying the bag for a whole day ?? Does the waterproof cover fit with ease with a tripod attached ??? Is it durable and nade to last ??

Top access back packs are so convenient! Hard to find one that holds a long lens attached to a camera. Wonder if this will hold a Nikon z8 with 180-600 lens attached.

Brent, did you just say that wood duck is looking at you like…..I need to find some snap peas! I laughed out loud on that one, you crack me up! I live in OH, but if I ran into you in a park someday, I would think I knew you personally. Which obviously I don’t! I really enjoy your channel and your down to earth personality. I always enjoy watching you and learn something new. When I leave to go look for wildlife, my partner often says…go shoot em in the face! Just thanks!

Nice images ! I am a big fan of Temba bags I own 2 one big enough for my 600 F4, the 100 to 500 and 2 R5s and one a little smaller for those outings without the big 600. They have excellent customer service !

Thanks Dan! Yeah I've been a fan of Tenba for a while now. I bought their solstice v1 like 15 years ago, and then upgraded to their bigger bag and had that for a while. I have one of their messenger bags that I bought about 10 years ago too. It's still going strong.

Brother! I can't believe those wood ducks were so chill. I have to blend in to the river Bank for them. I am however blessed to live right above a river here in North central Ohio. I'm very interested in the rf 100mm to 400mm as I'm getting older and lighter is seeming better now.
@BrentHall
@BrentHall 12 күн бұрын
Yeah, I usually have a bit harder of a time with wood ducks, but really lucked out with them on that trip. The 1-4 is really great as a lighter, travel-friendly lens. I almost never take it out of my bag because it's so small and light.

@BrentHall thanks Brent I shoot the adapted ef 100mm to 400mm L2 on my r6 mk.2. I know i would be losing weather sealing but how do you compare the the rf 100mm to 400mm image quality to the ef 100mm to 400mm L version 2? That's my biggest concern i guess. I already noticed a big improvement on how sticky focus is on my rf 800mm f11. Thanks

What happened to your Shimoda bags?
@BrentHall
@BrentHall 12 күн бұрын
Nothing, I have a whole closet full of them and still love and use them all the time. This one's just way different in style and functionality than the Shimodas so I'm really liking it for certain trips.

I have the Solstice V2 20L, which is the smaller version, & it fits a Nikon D700 with a Sigma 150-600mm installed on it with the hood backwards on a top-load configuration. And probably a lil under 2 inches clearance from the top, zipper-pull flap. In case someone is wondering how big a combo would fit in the 20L. Cheers!

My main backpack is a Tenba Solstice (v1, I guess?) 20L, and I adore it. Not quite big enough to happily hold large zooms, though. Anyway, neat to see that you get a lot of familiar birds even way out west. And I remarked to myself just before you did about how wood ducks are usually a lot more skittish than that, ha! Great shots, looked like a fun outing.

Oh nice. I had V1 for a while too. I think I bought like almost 15 years ago. I gave it to a good friend when I got their bigger 32L bag and he still has it now. And yeah, winter in NM is great for ducks. We have a surprisingly good amount of them.

We have Belted Kingfisher's here in Arizona and they're the biggest pains in the ass to get pictures of! The one's here don't sit still for more than a millisecond and then they dart off again! I got a great shot of one flying past me and it was complete luck that I got such a good picture of it. I really want to get one sitting on a branch.
@BrentHall
@BrentHall 12 күн бұрын
Yeah, those Kingfishers are tough. They fly around a lot and are fast, for sure. I got lucky with the one on this trip.
Well I messed that up...
