@drpibisback76803 жыл бұрын
That would be fucking amazing, though you'd have to take care to place the lights on the path so their beam doesn't noticeably get cut off by the ultra-black surface of the walls and presumably the edge of the floor - which would ruin the illusion of infinite expanse by indicating that the light is being stopped by something. Lay it out right and it would be fantastic.

Do you think engineering equals some sort of crafts and arts degree? Most engineers don't ever use their hands for anything other than writing by hand and using a computer in their studying and/or work... How are you this dumb? Do you seriously think engineers sit around and build stuff with their hands? What do you imagine craftsmen do then? Try to use that one half of a brain cell before writing comments, it saves yourself from showing everyone your immense idiocy and save everyone else from the exposure.

Fun Fact: While Vantablack's first application dates to 2014, the first *actual* use of blackest-black pigment was in 1982 with the release of Spinal Tap's album "Smell The Glove".

“Do not be alarmed dapper young man, no need to be frightened there fair lovely lady… all I ask is a quick moment, a fleeting minute of your time!Before you I possess a seemingly normal-looking yet suspiciously curious cubic cardboard contraption. Ladies and gentlemen if you dare yourself a soul brave enough to peer at the infinitely empty, depressingly cold, dreary and dark void that extends off into forever… I have here for you this evening an amazingly accurate physical representation of my former female romantic companion’s heart and soul! Fifteen cents per adult, children only a nickel if accompanied by a responsible adult. Peer at your own risk!” -how I would choose to monetize this box if I lived in the early 1900s

Amazing! I would love to look inside that box in person. It was so black that my laptop couldn't handle it, coming up with weird indistinct shifting artifact images. I have to call you out on something you said at the beginning of the video, when you made the assertion that perfect darkness doesn't exist anywhere on Earth, specifically citing the ocean depths and deep caves. Now, I have clearly never to the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean, so even though I've read that it is impossible for any light to penetrate to that depth, I'm not going to argue the point as I can't verify it from my own experience. What I AM going to argue is about caves. I toured a few cavern systems in my 45 years, the first and my favorite of which was Alabaster Caverns in Freedom, Oklahoma. I haven't been to Alabaster Caverns in more than 30 years, so I can't guarantee they still do this as a part of the tour, but the last time I was there (and all the times before that), when the tour group reached the deepest part of the cave system, the guide had ALL lights turned off. None of the path lights, no flashlights, and (as would be expected in the mid to late 80s) no cellphones. The darkness was absolute. We were deep enough underground and the passages back to the surface winded and turned enough that there was absolutely no light whatsoever reaching us. I could literally hold my fingers just millimeters in front of my eyes and not detect their presence. It was the strangest sensation; it was simultaneously insanely claustrophobic as though the world had closed in to a confined space the exact size and shape of my body with all of existence darkly pressing in on me, but at the same time as though I gad been cast adrift in an infinite void. It was beyond unnerving. So even though I can't attest to the darkness of the ocean floor, I can say from experience that absolute darkness absolutely exists on earth in the deepest parts of cave systems. If you haven't experienced that, you should; it's truly amazing.

It would have been cool to bring a light-source into the box, I imagine it would translate better to video just how black it is to see the light source but nothing being reflected off of the walls.

It's so weird to the point of, my monitor is trying to render light and you can see tiny chunks trying to load light from the monitor and then it dies to black as there is literally nothing to display, extremely interesting.
@dizydeus3 жыл бұрын
Unless you have AMOLED screen, the pixels on your LCD screen still emit light, just very dimly. If you mean that the chunks disappear and you have one solid black (even tho pixels still lit), that is not happening in my case for some reason. There are chunks trying to render something throughout the whole journey that starts at 19:00

Pretty sure a cardboard box would yield a 0.0 on a light meter too. That's like measuring an nanometer with a ruler. Would be curious to really see how black it was compared to other things that seem black... Like night time, a dark closet, a sealed box mafe od concrete, etc...

God, this reminds me of my room in one my older places of residence. It was the innermost room, so zero windows to let any natural light in. When I was in that room at night, blinking made the square root of zero visual difference, and even when it turned day, it was hard to tell what exactly I was looking at. Disorienting AF is putting it mildly.
