The doctor mentioned boxing and any other experience where the brain is subject to accelerations/decelerations which cause the brain to “twist” and become damaged,even where there is no concussion. I’ve been following this research since the first paper was published in a medical journal and I came to the conclusion that parents who allow their children to play contact sports need to be educated by the sports organisation that they are allowing their children to join ,to explain the probable brain injuries (CTE). I will never understand why any parent would allow their child to engage in a contact sport.CTE has been documented for so many years now and still people think that it’s about concussions! It’s not! It’s about all those ‘mini’ hits that cumulatively lead to dementia in people as young as 18! Respect your brain please.Its the only one you’ve got!

My brain is scrambled. Seeing the elderly and the brain issues i often think oh darn i'm only 45 or 50 and see the decline that a 80 yr old has. How do you get a scan or tested to see ?
@skunkbeard-bikerАй бұрын
All brain diseases are based on where the damage occurs. Alzheimers and Parkinsons occur near the basal ganglion and can be seen on a CT scan. CTE occurs in the cerebellum and is undetectable with current technology. That is why diagnosis requires an autopsy. However, the area of cerebellum that CTE is most common involves rational thought and emotions.

But, mainly, the violence was really horrific. I've had bottles broken over my head, a lamp at one time. Once i was so drunk, i fell in the shower and have a terrible scar on my head... goodness, i could go on & on. Lately, i have had some symptoms of CTE, but i really dont know if my PCP would even consider CTE?!? Is it worth being diagnosed?

Sports where players wear helmets such as NFL and ice hockey greatly increase the risk of head injury compared with contact sports like soccer where head to head contact is limited because the injury is cause by contusion or rotation of the brain inside the skull and helmets can’t prevent contusion

The teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) have long emphasized the importance of compassion and respect in human interactions. A notable hadith, narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), states: "If one of you were to hit, he should avoid the face..." (Musnad Ahmad). This guidance exemplifies the true essence of Islam, which promotes compassion, justice, and respect for all.

I don't disagree with anything this doctor said, she's right. But it does not change my perspective that the 15 years I played rugby, as a woman, gave me more than it took. For instance, I can't handle multiple people talking to me at once, bright lights as sunlight or artificial light, or the stiff body I have. I wouldn't take it back. I now work for one of the FAANG, make good money, am a top performer and I know I was lucky. Ive had 5-6 concussions, but rugby gave me far more than it took. Now, is that what all athletes get out of the sport? No. But would I stop someone from trying it, including kids? No. Because there is a change in the way you act once you've gained a certain level of physical confidence as a woman from a contact sport. It changes you and only true athletes know what I'm talking about. Not gym bunnies. Sports are good, but it's not for everyone and not everyone gets out healthy.

Sorry I disagree with you.Children should be encouraged to play non contact sport until they are old enough (ie an adult)to decide whether they want to risk their brain health.I doubt that many 18 year olds would want to be suffering from dementia,with all it’s horrors. I think that we need to get away from contact sports(because as the doctor said, it’s not just concussion that causes CTE, it’s actually the repeated hits to the head/brain that result in CTE early in life) In my country (Australia) thugby in its 3 forms ,are also the main reason people have a gamble addiction, which inflicts more misery. Play a non contact sport for your brain’s health, or instead go read a book!

I don't know why football (soccer if you're American) is being mentioned. The game now is barely semi contact. I personally think CTE is worse in American football because of the pads and head gear. Rugby no helmet's or pads but you cannot tackle someone unless they have the ball and it has to be below the shoulders.
