This Brings a NEW Meaning to MASSIVE Garden Transformation!

Watch me transform this crazy overgrown yard. I decided to do a surprise full yard makeover for a young couple while they were away on holiday. When the daughters mother called me around to do a quote for some mowing, I took one look at this place and offered to do a complete transformation for free. I thought it would be a great surprise. I was then told that the daughter had fallen over when hiking on a glacier in New Zealand and injured her hand terribly, requiring surgery and leaving her with a slight disability. Because of this, she can no longer really garden and take care of the property as required. Her partner really isn't an outside type of person, so the yard has become quite overgrown. At the start I thought I could get it all done in one episode, but the front took me much longer than expected, and I did everything for FREE. I put in around 14 hours of labour, including 3 trips to the landfill. This is part 2 of 2.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin.
Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee?
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working! All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved!
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. Currently, I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k on a good ride on mower.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on in there.
4. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering we always take the green waste away.
5. I will get one as soon as all of the above are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.

Very nice, George! I was amazed how laid back the chooks were with the noise of the trimmer and weedeater, lol. I love places like this, it's almost like that old TV program called The Good Life (maybe it was a bit before your time). Fruit trees, chooks, room for a vege garden and flowers. My idea of heaven. Hard to find big sections like that here in my city in NZ now. Anyway, it looks great now. You've opened it up a lot and even shifted a bunch of rocks which was pretty ace.

Looks like half the problem here was plants from neighboring houses intruding. There were too many things planted in the yard, and THANK YOU for moving that absurd collection of totally unnecessary rocks. If the owner wants her yard neat then she should get rid of the rocks and the excessive plantings. The chooks need a better roosting house. You did a great job here, George.

We have had drought years followed by flooding, we have lost a few of our trees this year. I dont think they can handle the stress, or very wet roots.
