Wouldn’t pulling the needle covered with paint back thru the airbrush cause issues? I’ve always been taught never to pull a dirty needle back, but rather forward to prevent pulling dirt and paint back into the action areas of the airbrush.
@ItsAYGIbaby
@ItsAYGIbaby Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right. Especially when you still have paint or dirty water in the cup like in the video, it can flow back in the airbrush. I always clean the airbrush as much as possible, while the needle is still in and then remove it. After I remove it I grab a different airbrush and spray air through the hole I removed my needle to get all that paint that I can't reach with a brush out in the cup. Then I reinsert my needle and give it a final flush. I do this when I stop painting of course, otherwise when changing paint I just do a quick flush, without removing a needle.

I prefer using a paint brush with a fine tip cut so that it can reach deeper inside and bunch up at the end and then I just roll it a couple times and it gets everything. It works exceptionally well for cleaning out tiny flecks if you're using a metallic type paint with those tiny specks of whatever it is in it. It really gets down in it and gets it moved around, add some water and continue until you don't see anymore floating in the water.

I build scale models and I just bought my first airbrush. I plan on spraying an acrylic based gloss and matte coats over the models; do you know if regular cleaning methods are effective with gloss and matte coats? I also have an enamel-based set of matte and gloss (from Testors) and I am concerned about protentional damage to the brush with fast drying mediums like these.
@Dakahrii
@Dakahrii Жыл бұрын
I make scale models as well. It's important to use the appropriate thinner for what paint you are using. If its water based used water or airbrush cleaner, if it's enamel then use turpinoid, mineral spirits, etc. If using laquer then use laquer thinner. Some airbrushes can't take lacquer paint but if you have an Iwata Eclipse you should be ok. As long as you clean after every session you will be OK. If you let the paint dry then it is really difficult to get clean. These airbrushes are really sensitive so it is extremely important to make sure they are clean. Whether it's gloss, Matt, clear coat, etc. doesnt change anything. It's what the paint is based on, i.e. oil based alcohol based, water based, etc. Also, there are reddit forums that are really helpful such as model builders and airbrush. They are both a good source of info.
@AirbrushAsylum
@AirbrushAsylum Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment and questions , in regards to the cleaning methods shown in this video you can use them just adjust the cleaner you use ie …for enamel paints you will use turps or another form of cleaner advised for enamel paints. As shown in this video I used automotive reducer and the brush is fine, how it will hold up over time is another question 🤔👍🏻

I have a question. I have watched plenty of videos but never really got a clear answer on what is a reasonable consumption of paint, pressures and mixes aside. "A couple of drops of paint" etc. When me and my daughter tried to prime a thing the size of a Rubik's cube, we ended up filling the cup multiple times and emptying in what felt like seconds. I have literally zero reference on what is "normal" or how much paint is expected to cover an object with black primer.

Double check your needle size if you have a .7 needle it will run through paint quicker with paint loss to the area than a .3 . The air paint mix is a trial by error to each airbrush

Different paints will perform differently and some cover faster than others, I usually always overfill my cup and then have to tip half of it back 🤦 generally for decent coverage I would use a .35 with a 1:1 paint mixing ratio at about 30psi 👍🏻

@@AirbrushAsylum that's the thing that confuses me, all the talk about "two drops" as to "not having to pour back", when all disappears way faster than one has time to worry about having any paint over after one is done. There's zero coverage if one hasn't blasted away like a madman. Seems like it both requires way more paint that what is being said, and Every cup is gone quickly. Something's not right. It has been a few months since I tried my Iwata. Saw this in my feed and came to think of it. I gave up when I felt like even after watching a million videos, I have zero feel about the ball-park.

I am asking there because I don't understand : Why would you buy airbrush paints when an acrylic paint from seller like valeho sells for the same price, if not cheaper, and the easy mix to make airbrush paint is (I used it several times in my rc airplane making club ) 1 part acrylic paint or maybe a little bit less if the paint is thin, like valeho ones 1 part, or maybe 1 half of water depending if your paint is thick or not you ad alcohol, like rubbing alcohol or ethanol to make the final paint really thin, like milk, as the general saying. (back in the club, we used the cheap acrylic paints from the craft store, cheap and easy to use, just mix a little bit to get the right color)

Yes I have heard great things about Vallejo however I have never personally used them. I like trident paints as they can be used on paper, canvas, tshirts, plastics as well as automotive surfaces where they can be clearcoated with acrylic or two pack clear so for me the versatility is what is important , that said if you are happy with Vallejo or mixing up cheaper paints then by all means keep doing it 👍🏻

Nice video........Any small tip brush will work equally well, you don't have to pay extra just because of the brand name. The same goes for the airbrush cleaning solution. You're paying a premium for the brand name. Just get a spay bottle of Fantastic, or simple green that you can spray into the cup. By buying manufacturer named products you're paying much, much much, much more. than you need to to get the same results. Spend the money you're going to save on more models and have fun.............

Never, ever pull a needle out of an airbrush with paint, or anything else in it. You are simply allowing the paint, or whatever, to flow into places it shouldn't be. And never pull a paint covered needle out the back of the airbrush. Again, you are introducing paint into places it shouldn't be.

Thanks for your comment and for sharing your method ….but, I would urge you to flush through the back ie…remove your needle, otherwise over time the needle will build up with paint and you will have all sorts of trouble, trying to remove it once your trigger movement gets sticky over time, due to not flushing through the back 🤔 my method may well take longer, however over my 20+ years of doing it, all my airbrushes even the ones 10-20 years old still work as new and I hardly replace needles and nozzles 👍🏻🤩
