I work for FedEx and happened to be doing deliveries in Walpole when they were moving this, it was a pretty cool sight!

My dad ran RDC's for years for B&M. I used to go to work with him every now and then, great memories.

Whenever I see a story on the RDC, I think of Budd's attempt to produce a suitable successor in the SPV2000. Which then leads me to wonder how Budd could have produced such a colossal failure given the company's history of producing some of the greatest rail cars during the golden age or passenger rail travel.

Love the video! At my work we have a ex B&M Budd #6129 on site. It's demotored and we use it for washrooms. It was brought in and placed on site we similar to yours. Well done!

I can’t find pics of it, looking for research, are you sure it’s 6129?

Technically, there were FIVE B&M models. The RDC-3 was split between baggage/RPO and also full RPO with no baggage.
@MilwaukeeF40C10 ай бұрын
Must have been 15 or 30 foot RPO sections. USPS would only lease exactly 15, 30, or 60 feet and had exact specifications for room layout and door and window type, size, and placement.

Looks like they removed the engines and stuff on the bottom. Are they going to put it back on properly?
@zachknutsen46618 ай бұрын
Most stuff will go back on (battery boxes, air tanks) the prime mover (it only had one left) was sold to a museum, the engine boxes will be reconstructed though, so it'll look the part.

I notices the two near south station are gone. was really hoping they were saving them.

Why didn't they move it by rail?
@youraveragebathtub11 ай бұрын
couldnt, it was so old and it also burnt down, there were also no controls left, and the wheels would practically fall apart if disturbed.
@BentendoGameBoy11 ай бұрын
Not to mention that there are no rails to run it on.
@zachknutsen466111 ай бұрын
False, wheels are in great shape and it's not burnt out. Tracks between North Walpole and Troy were torn up in 1984, that's why it wasn't moved by rail.
@youraveragebathtub11 ай бұрын
@@zachknutsen4661 Still, its not a great idea to move them by rail, if they fail then its a even bigger problem for the MBTA.
