I love 4-4-0's. They are/were some of the most beautiful and coolest locomotives out there. Eureka & Palisade #4 "Eureka", a 3 foot gauge american from 1875 as one of many 8-18C's is what I think about when someone says 4-4-0. And of course you can't forget the General, Jupiter, 119, Leviathan and, because I am a little biased, NYC&HR RR 999.

Great job, thanks for this. I grew up in Keene starting in 68, as a kid remember hopping the trains from eastern ave to down town. As an adult i lived in Walpole and Bellows Falls. While i lived in BF i took amtrack to Montreal a couple times, back when all you needed was an ID to cross into Canada.

i was born in Fitchburg, (shhhhh) lol, was ten when i moved out, ended up in Worcester, which I love, given the choices as where should one live in MA. anyways, great video! as a kid, the trains were all B&M,, including the cabooses of course. Along side of rt 12 from Fitchburg to Worcester, you can see a rail bed, as it was, i often wondered if it was a trolly line. yeah, that's a different subject. i have no idea if there was a busy train line from the two cities.(btw, I'm 60 now) Hope you've had a chance to see Worcester's train station. i was a driver years ago, used a lot of rt. 2A,,, you know, the part next to the river where the river flows up hill, lol. You make great videos.

On the Long Island,the H Class Consols,were the general purpose engines,even pulling passengers! The New Haven,in the same Territory as the B&M,used Moguls,and only had about a handful of Consols! And over on the B&A there was a considerable number of G Class Consols! When those lines,paralleled,each other,engine spotting must have been most interesting,as the only source of data,was the RAILROAD magazine! And the Boston area,was awash in multiple lines,in every direction! History strikes again,and thank you,for getting the B&M side! Thank you 😇 😊!

That was cool I grew up in Wilton. Stewart Draper was my neighbor. He was a strong member of Wilton he got part of the rails to run pleasure trips on that rail line, unfortunately I moved out of Wilton before he started that endevor. I did however partake in driving a 68 plymoth fury from Lyndeboro to Wilton on the rails by deflating the tires some, it fit perfect we actually the three of us climbed out on the hood for a ways just idling down the tracks! We got on the tracks just past the Lyndeboro store past Quinn pits and rode them to the Wilton Post office, A memory I will never forget!

Thanks for this history. My ancestor, Efraim Whitcomb, was a conductor on the Keene line when the station first opened. He lived in S. Swanzey, N.H. I'd like to find a picture of him. The list that you supplied at the end should give me some leads.

What is the cause of that unusual sound you describe as a "1-2-3 rhythm"? It is quite different than other locomotives...

Really enjoy seeing these RR movies from the mid-1960s to mid-'70s - back when I was doing most of my railfan activity as a teen/young adult. Brings back pleasant memories of hours spent watching trains at trackside.

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) when a railroad is abandoned the state of NH retains the right of way in case they need it in the future. At least that's how it was explained to me 40 years ago. Other states haven't been so far-sighted.
@richg0404Ай бұрын
What a great video. I had never heard about the effort to put Steamtown in Keene. Too bad it didn't happen. Just little FYI. I grew up in that part of NH and I have always heard Ashuelot pronounced as Ash-wool-it.

Will you guys ever do a video on some of the stations in NY? Eagle bridge is still there and unlike the other remaining NY Boston and Maine stations it isn’t someone’s house now. I wish the Troy-Boston line still ran.
