Because knobs are for capitalists this cheap old soviet synth only has buttons. But Hainbach got it so I felt that was a great reason to rush out a video :)

I think that weird power thing is safe: it looks like it can accept those big C or D batteries but instead you can put that AC power adapter that generates whatever voltage batteries did, so those exposed contacts are probably low voltage and safe.

LMAO "Not safe". You're talking about a culture where instead of doing drugs young kids engaged in chemistry experiments at home, making improvised explosives and smoke grenades, and even younger (rural) kids had their fun by finding old rusty German and Soviet hand grenades, shells and mines in the forest, putting them into bonfires and running away in hopes of witnessing an explosion. When parents here scold their kids for doing drugs with their friends I just laugh thinking "at least they're not making IEDs". (On a side note: that isn't "unsafe" in any way. What Simon is playing with is Soviet AC 220 V to DC 6 V converter. It's actually a very smart and efficient way of building a portable synth toy. Everywhere else, - AC/DC adaptor is either built into the device or is made in a form of a bulky plug that you cannot plug anything else next to as it occupies 3 sockets on a power bar. Either that or it's a box that dangles on the cable, and has to be put on the floor where it's easy to step on accidentally, damaging it. Soviet designers went a different route and put one inside a battery compartment. If you want it portable, - you won't have to deal with extra weight of a built in AC/DC adaptor, and if you just plug it at home, - you have a neat AC plug that doesn't take up space. And as far as open leads, well, they're not any more unsafe than a 9 volt battery. It will hurt if you short both terminals with unprotected finger but that's about it.). Oh and as for a tiny one it says "little nightingale" on it. Not magpie ))

I laughed when you called the octave buttons inches. I never really questioned why the octaves have a foot sign, but I have seen people call them feet. then I just looked it up and it comes from organs because the longer the pipe, the lower the pitch.
