This one is just so charming that I can overlook most, if not quite all, or its numerous flaws! They seriously need to look at those twin bezels, they honestly don't sta set for more than five minutes. But if you are OK with the resultant 'dynamism' then go for it, it is lovely. Cheers, Jody

Dear Jody, I miss the typical "hand in the pocket" shot that you were showing in some of your videos not long ago. They're really helpful, believe me. Because it puts the watch in a wearable context far beyond from a naked wrist. I think that many of us will appreciate that you use those shots again in your videos. Just a suggestion from a real JOMW lover. Regards from Spain.

Even if not in pocket, shots from a bit further away than directly under a camera are great but rare in most reviews.

I am literally wearing this watch while watching this video. What a coincidence! Here's my take on it after owning the watch for about 3 months. I really like it, it's a good unusual addition to my collection. Not just another dive watch and not just another fleiger. UPDATE: So today at noon, I set the bezels with the minute pip at noon and the hour bezel at 4 (GMT). Then I went out and coached a lacrosse clinic for 90 minutes, ran errands in the way home, cooked dinner and now at midnight checked the bezels and they are at the exact location I set them. I checked my wrist and when I bend my wrist back, it doesn't hit the crowns. So I guess some wrists are different from others. YMMV. It looks great. Bulova nailed it - I agree with Jodie. Somehow they made all the numbers still look legible. The strap is nice, but I replaced it with a vintage looking khaki-ish leather strap and it really picks up the inner PM numbers. I swapped the buckle and it looks sweet. But no watch is perfect. The bezels are touchy, but not as much as Jodie experienced. I push a wheelchair so theres a lot of arm movement in my day, but I can set the bezels and still come up with the same location hours later. But they could benefit from more friction and a detent at 12. Also, I find at some angles the distortion interferes with the outer minute track. But all in all, I really like this watch and it's definitely in my high rotation list. Recommended!

Well...here's the thing...if you live in Newfoundland, this is the only GMT watch that will work for you as their specific Time Zone is one half of an hour preceding the rest of Canada. This is, in practice, the Newfoundland GMT watch.

This is a beautiful watch, Jody! My father was part of a B-25 crew in the Army Air Corps but his watch looked nothing like that. I know, this was originally a prototype but the one he was issued was a basic field watch. He was born in Canada and I asked him why he fought for the US instead of Canada. He simply said, "If I was going to die in battle, I wanted to die for a country whose leader lived there, not in GB." :)))

Are we not just quibbling over semantics Jody? How many people who love watches actually buy them for the intended purpose. I have diver’s and pilot watches but I’ve never had an oxygen tank on my back 🤿, nor have I sat in the cockpit of a plane ✈️. I just love the look of them and it’s fun to muck around with the functions without actually depending on them, e.g. this Bulova looks superb on wrist but it’s unlikely I’d ever use the flight timer. Great video as ever, cheers!

I was interested in this watch when it first came out, but luckily looked more into the previous versions. I ended up purchasing a NOS 65A107 from 2015, which is a more faithful reproduction of the original watch. 39.5mm diameter, 18mm lug width (I would have preferred 20mm) and perfect resistance on the bezel crowns. Plus, the minute and hour hands are the proper length to match up to the ET bezels. The hands on this new version are too short, which is a deal breaker for me. I own over thirty Bulovas, so am apparently a big fan, but I prefer their older designs. Hopefully, this oversize watch phase is winding down (the reviewed watch is an acceptable size). As an example, my Lunar Pilot should be 2-3mm smaller.

Just received one of these as a Xmas gift from my wife. You couldn’t be more right about everything in this review! I do have a smaller wrist (16.5cm), and I have to use the second to last notch on the strap, but it still fits and the case size actually works well with my personal tastes. Long story short, my wife is the coolest 😎

Those outdoor shots pushed me over the edge. So crisp. I guess I've found my December purchase, and it will join the other three Bulova's in my collection. I'll just have to immerse it in Vegemite on arrival. That should stop the unwanted twisting of those top and bottom crowns!

Hey Jody! This bad boy showed up in my stocking today and I'm loving it! It's a unique twist on a classic military/field watch design, the back of my hand does NOT hit the crowns thankfully and my substantially larger wrist not only suits the watch size but puts me right in the middle of the strap holes as well. Thank you so much for you reviews; I usually come back every now and again and binge several of the at a go.😁

Well worth the wait. Thank you so very much Jodi!! I use the "timer's" at work for an elapsed time, yes its not super accurate and there is a bit of play with the dials, but not too bad in the year since I've had it. if you wear the watch on the right arm , then that problem is more or less solved. One thing though mine is running fast at an caffeinated + 30 seconds a day, so it matches its owner I love the watch but I'm not a Miyota fan, and the movement in mine only affirms that opinion. Still though I love this watch!!

Reminds me of how easy it is to move the 4:00 crown on my Alpinist (5 years old…Sarb 017). Gust of wind will move it. But it’s function is to shoot a position point off the Sun. You will be constantly making adjustments so………But running a continuous deduced reckoning situation that pilots use may take up to 20 or 30 minutes between way points. Super easy to totally mess up using this. It’s why chronographs have both 30 minute and 12 hour totalizers. Superb review Mr. Jody. You are a pro. Thanks!

Good review. First one I've seen where the reviewer actually knows how to use the elapsed time bezels. You can also use it as a one-hour timer with a GMT offset. The crowns on mine aren't excessively easy to turn. Mine has crap accuracy (+20 sec/day), but I use quartz watches for serious purposes. This watch isn't for serious use, but it's very fun, super-comfortable, and I love it nonetheless.

I bought one last year. Looks great, but still negotiating the fit. Prototype was 33mm, reissue under the Accu Swiss line was 40mm with hands that reached the rotating tracks. This second reissue up to 42 but hands seem a little stubby. But who hasn't spread over the years? The absolutely flat back and lugs means it wears big, even for my 7.5 inch wrist. A thought on how to keep those crowns unturned. Join the lefties and wear it on the right wrist.

I have had mine for 5 months and have had no trouble with the moving bezel issue. It may depend on wrist size/shape and how you move your wrist. This has surprised me, I was shocked when I got the watch at how sensitive the crowns were and was expecting plenty of movement.

Great video as usual Jody. A great watch. Might I suggest they make the bezel crowns push/pull. Pull out to adjust then push in to disengage the crown. This would then negate any accidental rotation of the internal bezel. A very simple fix. Let me know what you think.

An absolutely wonderful review on what should have been a must-buy timepiece. Those sensitive bezels would be maddening. I would buy this watch for its timing feature...but what good are they when they move? Seems like a pretty easy thing for Bulova to fix. Then again, despite reviewers and public clamoring, Bulova never produced a reduced Lunar Pilot, which would be a runaway hit. So many people asked for a reduced size and a 12-hour timer register...yet Bulova has completely ignored them.

Although I don't care for busy watch dials the functionality of the busy dials on a pilots watch are fascinating to ponder. I imagine a navigator sitting at his desk on a radial engine transport or bomber working hard to get the aircraft and crew exactly where they need to be. A tremendous responsibility back in the day.

I got mine two weeks ago. Not once have the inner bezels moved. But My watch also sits fairly high, so I cant even provoke doing it. Agree on the strap. It is VERY soft and nice on the wrist. But for me (7inch wrist) I would have liked it a litle shorter. All in all, I am very happy with this one. Looks great, and is nicely different than most other watches. The skeletonized rotor helps reducing the noticeable rotor wobble as well as the chunky case does. I always wonder why there aren't more of these upgraded 8 series movements out there in times of NH35 shortage. The movement by the looks much more attractive than the NH35. Budget watch brands either use the NH35 or the very basic and undesirable Miyota 8215s.

I got one of the from Joma. It's a great watch looks wise. I put it on a riveted tyep pilot strap. My bottom crown I find is stiff enough that it is useable but the top crown is as you describe a little touch and it starts to turn that crown. It's not quite so bad that it's WAY off but if you have it say aligned when you put it on you're likely to find it off several degrees after just a few minutes of wear. They really should have tightened up those crowns. But it is a looker, I forgive it too. Plus how often do I really use the time bezel.

I have the older ETA powered one with the orange markers and (semi-skele) hands. Apparently, it was an LE since mine is marked 006/500. It's not as readable as yours (even close!) and has all the flaws, but it's still a cool piece and I have no intention of selling it. I guess the long strap was for a pilot to put over clothing in his unpressurized, unheated cabin, eh? My wrist is bigger than yours so I rather appreciate it. As a kid in the early 1960's, I was presented with a Bulova for my birthday. It had a genuine Radium dial! And if you took it down into a fully dark "Root Cellar", let your eyes get dark adapted then used a 🔎 magnifying glass, you could actually see the individual "burst" of light as single atoms disintegrated! I did this at the suggested of my Science Teacher from school, and boy was I amazed! I owned that watch for years, until it was finally stolen in a house break-in. A Pox be on that thief to this day!

This Bulova Pilot watch, although technically not designed to do so, can actually be used as a dual time zone watch if you know what you are doing. It took me about 2 minutes to figure it out and it turns out its easy to use this to figure out a second time zone much quicker than sitting there trying to count plus or minus hours in your head when instead using the dial there is less to think or guess. Let me explain...Let us say it is 10:30am Pacific Time in California and I want to know the time in Spain where my friend lives...All I do is set the white upside down triangle with the lower crown to the 10(or 22) same thing, on the inner part of the dial and then just count 9 hours from there because Spain is 9 hours ahead of California time. So, if its 10:30am in California, it's 7:30pm in Spain or vise versa...if its 10:30pm in California then it's 7:30am in Spain. I knew you all would understand. 🕥🔄🕢Gosh I am such a Nerd!🤓

My favorite Bulova reissue is the Computron. My issue with this one is both size and functionality. That seems to be the issue with Citizen as well. Both Bulova and Citizen are way to focused on how a watch looks, then how it functions and wears. It is really unfortunate because both companies separately were doing amazing things in the 60's before the quartz crisis. Just never found there way back to there former glory. Well you could say the same for a lot watch brands from the past, so hard to hate on them.

I really like the watch but my OCD says no to those sensitive crowns. Very nice review like always!

One of the few watches that allow you to track a second time zone that is offset by 30 minutes, like IST (India). I have the Swiss made version.

It’s not a deal breaker as long as I can tell time & it looks good, I’m in😊

Certainly a nice looker, but I personally found it too cramped with all of those numbers. A single rotating bezel and it would be a great one. But I already have my Seiko Flightmaster, so i only really need a simple Fleiger to add to the collection.

It's a great looking watch, and like you it really ticks a lot of my boxes. The crowns are annoying, but not a deal breaker I think. Now that they're part of the Citizen group it would be great to see this watch and the Lunar Pilot come with the Eco-Drive movement, which is one of the main reasons I like Citizen.

Agreed! Especially in the Lunar Pilot. Although the movement currently in the Lunar Pilot does keep amazingly precise time.

I don’t normally like busy dials but I’d make an exception for this. Always good to see a strap for proper men…

One of my best looking watches out of nearly 50. Gets compliments often. I even bought it an expensive horween strap in ox blood.

Very handsome piece ... such a shame about those free-flowing inner bezels ... Bulova would do well to sort out that issue.

I wonder the strap tend to be for bigger wrist, is it because it was worn on the outside of the pilot jacket sleeve? With their thick leather glove it better be easy to turn the bezel nob too

I don't know why the bezel crowns aren't screw down. I have the same objection to the second crown on the Seiko Alpinist. When I set an internal bezel I want it to stay put.

I wonder if the crowns would move if worn on the right wrist? As an unapologetic lefty, I wear my watches on the right wrist and I think this watch may serve me well.

Hi Jody, Just bought one. I have a solution to knocking the crowns. I wear watches on my right wrist, and that keeps the crowns in place… Granted, not a solution for everyone, but it’s an option… D

I still like this one, although shame you can move the bezels so easily. Too bad they didn't make it require a bit of added effort, or guard them somehow. That said, although it's not the originally intended use case, I still think this does make an ok "cheap man's GMT", assuming it stays somewhat in place.

With such a busy dial, I really think you need a larger watch for visibility.

This Texas guy wants that t-shirt! I understand about the loose crown. My blue Alpinist compass crown is easy to turn, and often is not lined up, despite my best efforts. Just a bit more effort to turn it would be appreciated. It's one of my few niggles with the watch.

It’s a great looking watch but would be too big for me with my 6.25 inch wrists, but granted most pilot watches are big anyway and for a reason. The bezel kind of reminds me of the Dan Henry 1970 diver

As many models / sub-models / variants that Bulova AND Hamilton offer today (and as many as Jody has reviewed)...Zero, nada, zilch in the JOMW SOTC 2021 video. That speaks volumes.
