I’ve have A LOT of packs over the years. I can say that the day ruck is my favorite pack ever made. I’ve had about 6 of them. I have to get my hands on another! Eyes up the multicam one!! Great vid brother.

Great video James. And that's a pretty fine pack. I've been looking at Hidden Woodsman stuff for a long time. A little on the price side, though. But you go over the features of the pack thoroughly. And that makes me want one even more. Keep up the good work man!

Two things you might want to consider, and they do not weigh much, or take up much room. 1. An emergency sleeping bag, would go well with your bivy sack. Lots to choose from. 2. One of the emergency reflective blankets, and I'm not talking the flimsy one use ones. But the heavier duty one. With a reflective side, you can face the sun, if you need shade. Or set up as a lean too, shiny side down. Then set up a small fire with a reflector. Something to think about. But nice kit none the less.

Malcolm makes some great gear, being he's the maker limits his output, not a con just the way it is. Good stuff here James, products are sensible and if you like, that's what counts. Location of destination will determine what and how much to carry, weather not withstanding. I often carry my haversack along with my canvas pack, drop the pack, continue on with haversack. Works for me. See ya next time.

I have a waist strap on my day ruck. It’s usually tied away, I use it if I’m doing something that might cause the ruck to shift and throw off my balance. Like scrambling over rocks,crossing a log bridge, crawling under stuff. Etc. Nice looking ruck, I too like the camo pattern.

You should try an 1870s-1910s wild west style of camping so period correct style of equipment but i can see that getting the equipment would be a pain in the ass

I've been eyeballing this pack for quite some time. Too expensive to get to Czechia though. That's why I've been using a simpler but similar pack - the smallest Savotta, type Jakaari S. BTW I really, REALLY like your hat. I've been using some somewhere-made wool-felt wide-brimmed fedoras I got from the the UK eBay and those are ok - but this hat of yours is another sport. :)

👍 Excellent review of this very nice pack. I like Hidden Woodsmen stuff, but not a big fan of “special edition”, “one time only”, “limited quality”, “can only buy here” gear. Plus, Black and all Camo are my least favorite colors. Other than those considerations this looks like a great piece of gear. Thank you for sharing.

Condor Tactical H2O water bottle pouch. I've used two for years. They are well made. Nice pack, but way out of my price range.

Now that that thing has Molle , get a couple of army sustainment pouches . Your pack ability will increase 10 fold . Also a coupe of GP / aka canteen pouches also . After looking at their site , they dont offer that camo , another issue is price . For the same money , that I'm seeing , you could get an Eburlestok or Scandinavian pack , or surplus military , that is serious . Gucci gear , is kinda what I'm seeing from them so far . Shop around folks . Just sayin .

Too small for what? Plenty of space in that for a day-trip in any environment, it's not trying to be a 72-hour bag. It can even be a 24-hour bag for temperate three seasons. MOLLE webbing on the front is generally not that practical in a civilian pack, putting weight further out from the body changes the center of gravity for the worse. A rain jacket or something in a GP pouch is fine but putting anything heavy there isn't great, especially in a civilian setting where you don't have the counterbalance of a rifle/plate carrier/vest.

Im always armed bub , I save day trips for walking around with the wife in town , or on the beach . So for the money , a walmart pack to hold a couple of water bottles will do for that . Just sayin @@swe_nurse8121

I have three of those Condor water bottle pouches on my ruck. Two hold titanium water bottles, the third holds my Icom-705 ham radio, auto-tuner, and wire antenna. Depending on what I'm doing that weekend, I'll swap one of the pouches out for either more water or the radio. In a 'hop in the vehicle and run!" situation I'll strap all 3 pouches on the ruck and haul butt outta there.

Forgot to add. I do not like your scarf. I use a wool scarf that is slightly over 5’ long. It sucks if I actually need to use it to sleep but it’s better than nothing and my tarp? You need to have British contacts to get one but I would suggest one of the ultra light tents instead. They just are better in all situations

By "Bushcraft" it appears you mean 1950s canvas packs with some modern pieces. 1.) NO frame 2.) NO padded hip belt 3.) Heavy material. So just a larger day pack. Glad I'm not into retro packs. Then I'd be into "retro pain" i'll stick with my Osprey EXOS 58 for 3 season use and my DEUTER 65 for winter. THOSE packs are worth over $200. but certainly not this "Bushcrafter" day pack. Don't get me wrong, I think it's important to know bushcraft axe, knife and saw skills as well as knots and lashings. I do have these skills and more having been both a Nordic ski patroller and alpine ski patroller and Army winter survival instructor.

Ok. Please explain to me why everyone likes those bloody noodles? You get more nutrition from lentils and dried beef. If you like salt the old soup starter works and dried veggies. I disagree with you knife choice but it’s your choice. I would suggest a titanium leatherman. Just as good as yours but way lighter. I can not say how much I totally agree with spices but they are personal. I like my FirstNations salt and this deadly mix my Mexican delie makes. She makes a spice that makes rotten monkey taste good or burns my taste buds…you pick the answer having a warped sence of humour might be the best skill anyone can have. I don’t know if you can still buy them but I would suggest a titanium folding fork and spoon set I got mine years ago from Snow Peak. They fold down smaller than your set up and if you do buy those MREs or the like they are long enough to actually get to the bottom of the bag. I am totally on your side with a metal drinking container I have no words to explain how many times I boiled unsafe water in mine. I use titanium…but I’m a weigh freak. I am not from USA but we probably have similar weather except for the rain session so I do carry a military style smock, I like all the pockets for fun stuff. Toilet paper? Dude get the package from an MRE not only do you get the paper you also get Tabasco sauce and coffee and a pack of sorta water proof matches they actually sell them for the cheep on the internet. As for fire? I totally cheat! I use the solid fuel you can buy from any grocery store and I think you call it fat wood we have a different name. If you need more than one match your matches are off. For a bad cheat… always have a can of sardines not only are they healthy trust me there oils make fire and they have there own tin. But be careful I did almost start a bush fire using that trick. And yes I was military so I am different

one time at 2 am in the morning between new mexico and texas i was sleeping at an abandoned camp ground at a lake when a trucks headlights woke me up. the truck was about 100 yards away and it turned and drove strait towards me I was feeling in the dark for my 45 the truck was moving and its doors were cracked open allowing the cab lights to illuminate 4-5 mexicans with shaved heads getting ready to jump out, at the last second they sped away. glad to see you carrying a pistol

Nothing against these survivalists who make these videos but every one of them is 100% wrong. Allow me to explain. You prepared for SHTF, and your neighbors didn't. You will lose your bugout bag. They will take it from you and there is not a damn thing you can do about it. Try to run. That huge already heavy ass pack that you are so proud of will weigh a ton by the time you run to the stop sign at the end of the road, and you will drop it. You aren't running through the woods because it will get caught on every low hanging branch and bush. Again, you will drop it. You aren't crossing a river or climbing a hill. And if you think you can protect it with a gun....well, you will run out of bullets before they run out of heads, John Wick. Bugging out and survival is not about how much cool fancy shit you can carry in your pack. It is about staying alive, nothing more, nothing less. If your bugout bag can not fit in 1 cargo pants pocket, then you are wrong, and you will lose your shit when SHTF.
