Great Big Story

6 жыл бұрын

The Palos Verdes blue is an extremely rare butterfly species that can only be found in one specific area of Southern California. In the 1980s, the true blue beauty was thought to have been extinct, but in later years, was rediscovered the wild, to the shock of scientists. Although biologists have begun a breeding program to help bolster the butterfly’s population, it is still considered an endangered species. With close care and nurturing, biologists hope to give this small, but mighty, butterfly a second chance at life.

We all got tricked by the butterfly. That's one gangster butterfly. Just a stone cold savage. Disappears for 10 years and shows back up like nothing happened, doesn't say a word and goes back on with its routine, ignoring us all. I wish I had the patience that butterfly does. The patience of a sniper. Waited for just the right moment to make an appearance. It worked, the paparazzi are even after it now.

It was effectively extinct as far as anyone knew. The title is fine. I'm sure nobody thought it was extinct and then miraculously appeared out of thin air. Read it this way... "This butterfly was extinct, until it wasn't."

Really? It's very common where I live!! I see them all the time! Such cute and beautiful tiny creatures. My neices and I see if we can catch them sometimes to admire them for a little bit and then release them. We love these guys! I feel super lucky now...I knew at one time they were endangered... But I see them so often I thought they were taken off the list and were common again!

It isn’t the same butterfly. There are other blue butterflies that are similar to this one, but they aren’t the same. When they found this particular butterfly again, even the scientists thought it was a different blue butterfly at first, until they got a close look. This particular butterfly is native to a southern California peninsula, and only lives for 7 days in order to mate and breed. They don’t live long enough to migrate from their native habitat, which has been taken over by industry.

Okay. This video is more than a decade late. People were so enchanted by the visual blue the butterfly had to offer and neglect the fact told in the video that they were thought to be extinct in the 80s and reappeared in the 90s. So they've been reappearing for more than a decade now. Calm down!
