Buy yourself a good 12 volt compressor for your off road adventures. When you leave the pavement,lower your tire pressure down to about 12 PSI in each tire,you will have a much better ride and you will float across sand with no problems. Makes scaling rocks much easier as well.I'm 71 and off roaded the West from Az to Colorado to the Rubicon.

Great start with the horses! Nice filming too! Your gonna get your own TV show if you keep going. Say "old" often, it can be your thing lol. Love the commentary. Yeah, that's exactly what i was thinking as you said it, "Omg! poor guy, he's stuck again!", but I can see you were listening in your comments sections to the advice and knew you needed more tools, an d what would be usable because your better prepared and more cautious. Probably won't stay stuck for long ever again. I watched someone unstuck us 2 times, and the next time I was stuck, I got myself out. (I was always getting stuck everywhere). You should be proud of yourself, and your wife, she never complains. I complain constantly when it's hot, lol, your daughter- it takes cooperation from everyone, it's one of the best presents a youngster give you. Very helpful. You make a great team...(tell them someone told you this, :))

On Findagrave.com, I found an obituary for a Reed Johnson Horton (18 Aug 1909-30 Oct 1967 (aged 58); Goshen City Cemetery Goshen, Utah County, Utah, USA; married to a Mary Madeline Jeakins Horton in 1935. Photos and short bios are included. I wonder if these two are the people who might have lived there.

Well it is good that you didn't get stuck again, I was thinking oh no not again. Plus I can imagine the sheriffs saying " What the hell, do you have a death wish or something?" if you had to use your PBL again. At least you guys were able to get in and out without any troubles. Oh when you were breaking up the rocks to be able to drive over them, I would have swung the metal detector over it to see if you get any signals for gold nuggets or flakes or even taken samples home and pan it to see if there is any signs of gold. Also I take it you didn't find much or the ground was probably to trashy. I just love the view of the isolation and the history of the place. As always great video.

Thank you my friend, this time I took some extra gear just in case (tow strap, traction mats, etc), and I joined a new "off road" recovery road program. That's a good idea, I didn't even think about swinging the detector of those rocks, I will have to remember that next time for sure. I only hunted for about 10 minutes before I noticed the tailing pile and after climbing that mountain, I was near dead. I am so fricken out of shape! I did find an old band-aid container, but I left it where it was since it was BLM. I am only going to take gold (on non claimed BLM land), and modern money. Stupid federal laws make it too risky IMO to take anything else.

I have an older White TDI Pro that I love, so I asked White's if they would be interested in sending me some detector equipment to use in the videos, and they obliged. I am still learning how to use this machine, but it's a lot of fun. What I like even more is the pinpointer, something I have never used before, but never realized how much they help.

Beautiful horses at the beginning of the video and I am amazed at the effort you have to put in to get to some of these remote places. There was such a lot of stuff left in that cabin, it did look like they had intended to come back though and something prevented them from going back. I love it when people write some of the history of the place on the walls, especially when it dates that far back. Did you see the rat watching you? lol

I love my Armada, even without lockers it get's me to places few dare to attempt, but with some lockers, this thing would be unstoppable. The Xterra is a great SUV too. Does your Xterra have a locking diff? That's what I need, badly. 🙂

I have auto lockers. I mostly got this for snowboarding and skiing in the Lake Tahoe area. It's made a huge difference. My Xterra is 2002 supercharged version. I love it. It has just over 100,000 miles on it now. I would never getting rid of it.

Wild horses are so beautiful...carefree. I love watching them roam. The holes in the rocks were formed by water dripping on them. I wasnt able to see the whole rock formation above it, but its likely how the holes were formed. I am always amazed at how much stuff is left inside abandoned buildings. My mind goes into this mode where I imagine how people lived and how they survived away from society.

This is most definitely a grow op. The pipes are for vermiculite or pearlite growing substrate, and the holes are for the plant stems. The stems all over the place are clearly the remaining plant material after harvest. The "medication" is most likely the bulk chemical ingredients for plant food.

how do u find the places that you go to?

Marie Kane, It usually takes many hours to find these places, but I love looking for them. I usually start out with public land maps or google earth. When I find a great place, I then use mylandmatters.org to verify land status. If that checks out, I will use the county assessors office to verify land status as a cross reference. Then, when I am out in the field, I use a GPS chip to verify location is public land. Of course, many times I find cool places like this on my way to another place I have mapped out. 🙂
