In the video, I'm crafting a Halloween candy dispenser resembling a skull. A cutting template provided in the plans to cut out the skull's shape. A sheet of acrylic forms the face's transparent cover. I also make a slanted stand with a shop-made hinge.

I was gifted several tools after a friends dad passed away. One tool was a small band saw like yours. For me it is perfect because I don't use it often but it is really nice to have it when I need it. I don't do large projects so the size isn't really a limitation for me. Thank you for showing off the new tool.

0:32 "This would be a good project to use MDF on, since it's gonna be painted." Steve, that's what I love about the 'mere mortals' vibe on this channel! Some other channels (no doubt 'showing off') will just casually grab a more expensive piece of wood than 99% of their viewers can afford. "Uh, here, let me grab this piece of spalted maple I just happen to have. Should hold the paint really well!"

Cool upgrade from the original. I made a half a dozen of them as gifts. Still have one in my shop. I also made one of your North Pole mail boxes for a local children's center and several of your shadow boxes. Neat to be reminded of these old projects from the days when KZbin was worth the time thanks to you and Matthias.

I have the exact bandsaw, in fact, I own quite a few Wen tools. I am by no means a woodworker building fine furniture. Wen tools do what I need them to do and the price point gets me tools that I may not want to mortgage my house to own (Festool). This 9" bandsaw is perfect for the intricate cuts that you made in this video (remake!!). One of the best uses I get out of this bandsaw is when it is time for the pinewood derby for my son's cub scout pack. We have a workshop about a week before the derby where we setup a bunch of tools for the kids to use to shape and build their cars. Although they do not get to use the bandsaw, it works perfectly for those types of applications. I am glad to see others using tools that us mere mortals use often.

I think this was my favorite WWMM projects I ever did of yours. I even remade it for like 3 other holidays. I just rewatched the original from like 10 years ago to compare the techniques from then to now. Amazing how things have changed with how you film and build things. You're the best Steve! I wish I knew about the heat gun trick to remove your templates.. Uggh. Would have made my life so much easier. Note - On all of them I had to make the little dowel hole on the plexi a hair bigger than the dowel.. it allows for a more slop, better alignment and lets the spinner disk thing to move easier.

Hey, Steve. This was a fun walk down memory lane for me. I made one many years ago using the original plans. I made it for my daughter's then best friend. She took it with her when she moved to Japan. Do they have Skittles in Japan? Oh, well. I enjoyed watching you build this one. I have some great grandkids now. Maybe, I should make one for each of them. Thanks for the video.

It's a cute project, and inspiration to some improvements, for example, I can see how it might be improved with an open dish at the mouth, as a lower jaw, to make it easier to get the candies. All kinds of things. As for the Bandsaw I was thinking one day to get one; Your new 9" does look a tad small like you said. I've heard for a small shop that 14" is ideal, and wasn't that the size of your old bandsaw? And besides handling project, did you feel that was comfortable size in a garage workshop? I remember that video when your bandsaw broke... The issue is always floor space and you were happy to get it out of there... Seems a bandsaw is semi-essential when you need to make small projects... and I do that for my Halloween projects. (New video posted on my Channel... a Beware of Spooks sign that could have been made easier with a bandsaw if I had one) P.s. Thanks Steve for your Halloween special... I knew the upbeat song was a ruse to make me think happy thoughts... you've got a wonderful evil streak about you. LOL

@@SteveRamsey When my students made these in the school shop we painted them with water based tempera paint. The kids went nuts with color schemes and they could mix whatever custom colors made them happy. I made both matte and high gloss water based polyurethane available for top coating. With light sanding between coats they could get a really nice finish. Several kids had the idea of using double and triple layers to make the cranium, cutting the ocular recesses only in the front layer and the circular feed wheel and dispenser slot only in the back, and cutting the cross bones on alternate layers. They got pretty clever. Some kids started using the Dremel and some hand carving tools to make the bones more realistic. I regret not taking some photos to send you before I retired.
