stock, yeah, its bad. as such, I snipped the binocs, removed the poncho (gave that to a kitbash smuggler george lucas), swapped the range finder that came with arc Jesse (one that it came with i feel is bit too big), modded the pauldron using fodder from a modded fordo, and drew the black line on the helmet. after modded, i really enjoy it, however, i completely agree you shouldn't have to mod it. having the red box rex (my first ever pre-order) i swap the two around on my main display every few months, as of writing this just put the red box on shelf. still, my biggest complaint (which is the same for red box rex) is that the chin always pokes out from beneath the helmet and (with the full pauldron for both) he cant look to his left.

You guys just don't get it. Bad Batch Rex is a banger, and so much better than the original with just a bit of work. All I had to do to fix Bad Batch Rex was, remove the pauldron, take the head, helmet, and pauldron from the old Rex, fully disassemble this figure, spend several hundred hours meticulously recreating injection molds of the pieces, source the raw plastic used for the original from a landfill in China, purchase my own injection molding machine, buy an industrial photoreal printer from a guy in France, source the inks and paints used on the original Rex from a shady back alley dealer in the Phillipines, make all the parts using the OG Rex plastic, print/paint, and assemble the figure. Jokes aside, I'm glad the original got a repack.

Okay so here’s the thing, I do agree with you guys 100% in a vacuum, but ever since Mr. Cawfee customized this to look like the red box Rex and sold it to me, I can’t hate on it. It looks even better than the OG Rex IMO, since he weathered it up and gave it a matte spray. I also prefer the silver welding on the armor instead of the copper/bronze welding. I also am using his poncho on a regular Phase I clone trooper to make a member of Hawkbat Battalion from Tartakovsky Clone Wars, so that’s useful as well lol. Don’t forget tho, Rex isn’t the only deluxe clone: Gree was! He was also the first “deluxe because paint” figure, IIRC.

Hello Nate and Justin I unfortunately missed out on the original Rex figures so I have to use the Bad Batch version for now. We know that Rex is going to be rereleased because of Yackface, but I'm wondering if they will rerelease the original or the Bad Batch version ?? I definitely want/need the original. If they rerelease the original I'd think he's most likely going to be an Archive wave figure. If they release him in his original box then he'd most likely be the only figure in the case because of the packaging. Yeah this version of Rex has his problems but for those of us who don't have the original, he's the next best figure. Also I don't have Disney Plus so I've never seen the Bad Batch other than clips. So I'm ok if he's a bit inaccurate under the cloak you don't see his paldren and you don't see his clean belt, so it kinda works for myself, for now. And I kinda like that his helmet has the binoculars and the target enhancement, he's prepared for what is coming. lol Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Bad Batch Rex. He's definitely not a great figure, but he's adequate for what I need. Tom

I passed on this figure, even in the midst of the EE re-issue of #59 Rex debacle, and I still have no Rex. I'm cautious about the new speculation about a re-issue, because I really want to see Rex on the 2023 base body (why else would Appo have two vertical hinge trigger finger hands if they're not going to do dual-pistol officers) and Rex is an obvious choice.

I'm waiting to see which version of Rex is getting rereleased this year. I hope it's the original, but I'll have to wait and see.

I bought him on sale for $20, cut the binoculars off and threw away the soft goods. I also used a shock trooper pauldron and painted it blue. Now he is essentially the $100+ version. Should I have to do all that extra work? Nope, but I saved some cash in the process. If there is a 2023 body rendition I will upgrade for sure.

It's not unlike Hasbro to do this, they even do it with TVC figures as well. I remember Casian Andor in his Imperial trooper disguise they made, and gave him the boots from a different figure, instead of screen accurate boots. But I am sure there are lots more examples. People often defend this by saying tooling costs and saving money! by which never gets passed on to us the collector.

I just need a Rex, so I had to get this. And... yeah, it's a placeholder. The _second_ a new one comes out or they reissue another one, he's gone. The plastic was really noticeable for me too. It just looks... cheap. It looks genuinely damaged. Which is better than the weathering/battle damage. It looks too "applied," with no subtlety. It's something you'd get from a customiser's first time weathering.

It is a superior figure, because i could actually buy it. ;P I hope the current rumors of Rex being re-released (points to Lukeness and Yakface) are true this time... Hasbro just made a Rex Helmet too. He was in Ahsoka again so there is current media excuse to re-release him now. (or make a new one with Phase 1 helmet, either is fine with me as long as it is screen accurate) But what i really want is for Hasbro to re-make all the Clone Commanders and add new ones they missed the first time around on the new 2023 body. Those old double jointed legs and arms have those huge black round cutouts in the white armor for the pegs... that is truly outdated and worth re-tooling. oh... I'm so afraid they will be doing the same horrible job on the allegedly confirmed reissue of Rex, which everyone is wafting for. I almost wish they would use the exact same mold, with absolutely no upgrades, just to make sure it will look as good as the original. Same goes for Fox.

Hola friends!! Well, in my opinion, they did overdo it in making this deluxe figure, but I didn't think it was the worst. However, the weatheingr is actually horrible. To date I have this figure in Pre-order at BBTS. It seems to me that it will be ready for delivery in the second quarter of this year. but I kind of don't believe them 😂

I don’t own this release. I always wanted it… although not that badly, to put cloak on other Rex cause it looked cool in the show. But still holding off. Can’t pay price just for the brown cloak yet

I have mixed feelings about this figure, but overall am happy to have it in the collection until(if) we get a season 3 Bad Batch Rex release for the Bad Batch shelf. If doesn't compare to the original though! Much Love, and MTFBWY!

The fact he is NOT even accurate to his on-screen appearance in the first season of The Bad Batch and is instead based on TBB concept art is so disappointing. He's still very much an poor man's TBS 2018 Captain Rex and will never live up to that figure. It also does not help the 2021 Black Series Captain Rex forgot the matte finish for the head as well.

I don't even have a theory what happened here, they HAD the original Rex design, wouldn't it have been *more* expensive to redesign him for BB when the only real difference was a different pauldron? Why are there only *two* versions of one of the most lucrative characters, one of which is not available and hasn't been for a long time? Hasbro, you confuse and frighten me. Edit: yeah i had to settle for BBRex too; took a hobby knife to a bootleg clone to get a proper pauldron, and removed the Binocs. I'm not overly happy with the figure but he's my only permanent custom figure and i do love Rex as a character, i can't wait 10 years for an Archive Release. What bothers *me* the most is the paintjob, tbh. Not just the weathering (i hate that on every trooper, i want Shineys!) but people tend to shit on everything else (deservedly so) but forget the hair dye. Rex's hair is supposed to be almost invisible. BBRex looks like he's got a wig on.

What's crazy is that pauldron example isn't even supposed to be different. It's supposed to be the exact same look as far as the blue pauldron and black piece w/ painted buttons. -Justin

I have the exclusive non-photo reel Captain Rex and the bad batch one I was thinking about doing the head swap but I don't think the bad batch head is even that much better

He's definitely a downgrade from 59, but I personally don't see him as being as bad as other clones (like the original Phase 1 troopers, Cody, or Gree). A. As mentioned, he's on the Rex/Bly body, so he has better articulation than any clone released before 2017. B. Take off the pauldron, and he's basically Rex from Bad Batch Season 3. C. One (and ONLY one) area where I put him above 59: that smooth area of his neck between the under-suit and his head is painted with his skin tone color.

Great video. Agreed. They put all the effort into giving him the poncho with that half ass of a hood. In his first seen he has hood over his head. WTF. That was my biggest gripe about this figure since I have both of them but everything y’all said is true. Another half ass attempt on what could’ve been the best version of Rex. The only thing about this version i like is the colour on the wield marks, they shouldn't be fucking rust colour.. its awful.. but maybe i'm better kitbashing when i finally get the older figure in a re-release. Seems like an easy 2 pack Rex and Anakin(Ahsoka) with an updated Rex.. but hasbro are just so bad. TVC one isn't much better- but i also kitbashed that one lol.

Too bad we find out about these blunders after purchasing them. Here's one thing I'll give BB Rex over #59 Rex. At least BB Rex came out on time. I have had #59 Rex re-reissue Rex on order for over two years now, and how much do you wanna bet that Hasbro plans on another reissue of Rex on the superior 2023 Clone trooper body within the next two, or so, years?
