I can tell you, as a small business owner that services fleets of these here in NY, that hub NEVER comes off like that. I replace the hub and rotor almost every time. I did a 2016 T250 today and it took 5+ hits from a 4lb hammer to get it off. It's a good video, but an entirely different experience in the Northeast. i just listened to the end of the video. You were 100% correct.
@greggc80885 ай бұрын
Those magnetic rings on those bearings used now by all manufacturers go bad so often causing false brake activation it's a roll of the dice to touch one or even move it. Love the way you torqued those rotor to hub bolts instead of sending them home with an air wrench.

Great video Kenny. If it were my vehicle, I would've deep cleaned everything before reassembly with brake cleaner. You don't have these apart often ...just, so piece of mind for the future.

I didn’t notice after you clean the rotor and put it back on that you got a couple of more grease spots on it with your gloves. Don’t mean to be picky, I just always been told over the years not to have any grease on a new rotor in the calipers. But I sure did enjoy the video. Thanks a lot.

Reminds me of the brakes on 1990s Hondas. A lot of people really hated that captured rotor design. I would normally replace the hub and wheel bearing assembly along with the rotor. This way you get new wheel bearings along with the brake job and don't have to worry about using a press which could damage the bearings.
@stevemccauley57345 ай бұрын
Yep similar stupid design. I owned a couple of those early 90s Hondas & and an Acura Vigor. I don’t recall being able to buy hub assemblies back then. From what I remember you had to press the bearing out. Which destroyed it.
@LA_Commander5 ай бұрын
@@stevemccauley5734 correct. But you can buy the bearing and hub assemblies as a unit and they're already pressed in. So at that point just bolt on the new rotor and tadaa the job is done. Too easy.

Great video. I was changing front brakes on my wife's car on Wed. and came across a big surprise. One of the caliper pistons only compressed a half inch and stopped. Wouldn't go any further. I removed the bleeder screw and tried again. Nothing. It was stuck. Had to replace the caliper and bracket too.

My wrong doing: too much caliper grease on slide pins is detrimental because it fills up cavity too much. Just wanted to add that as a public service announcement.

I probably will never work on one of these, but I'm interested in knowing why not remove the hub then the rotor, vs, removing the hub/rotor together? I'm sure there must be a reason. I'm interested in understanding it.

I seen this before torque to X ft/lbs and turn 90 degrees. I wonder why don't they just spec the final ft/lbs. Do you know why if so I would appreciate you input. KOKO!
@Sinisterwill15 ай бұрын
Normally bolts that call out for that type of spec are considered torque to yield. You'll want to install new bolts when that is called for. Bolt threads can stretch and can become unreliable under high stress situations. Like head bolts, rocker arms...

I am hoping you or some other mechanic can please help. I have an 02 Yukon recently purchased in good shape. Idling a little rough and economy was poor so I changed plugs. They were definitely overdue. Afterwards I had an even tougher idle along with surging at idle. Took it in and they cleared codes to "relearn" the CPS. I drove it a few hundred miles and nothing had changed. So I opted to change the CPS. Now it's running worse. Not throwing any codes at all now. Mechanic neighbor hooked his OBD up to it and said fuel and air are all where they should be. I took it in again and nobody seems to know what's happening because there are no codes. Any ideas that can help me?

Clean the mass air meter & throttle body to see what happens. Do you mean CKP crank sensor, CMP cam sensor. Changing either of those won't change idle.

Maybe not that difficult but still a stupid design. Any manufacturer that builds cars like this with the rotor behind the hub plate should be fined lol. Same with unnecessarily using wheel bolts instead of lug studs & nuts. This sort of thing is just not a necessary part of the design. It was only done because they can.
