Drive it til it breaks and junk it. If you pick it up for a grand and it lasts 6 months it might be worth it. Just make sure you have AAA😂. VW and Audi are notorious for low coolant issues. Guys at dealer said they show up from the factory with that warning sometimes.

Finally someone posted about my old car! I had a 2000 A6 just like the one in the vid for almost 10 years! My experience has been opposite of everyone posting on here. My A6 had very few problems and never let me stranded. Idk why the 2.7T gets all the criticism, mine has been great. The only reason why I sold it was that I got married and needed an SUV. Great suggestion OP.

My buddy had this same exact car. Same year, color, model. The first month out of warranty his transmission and AC both gave out. Ended up costing him $8,000 to fix. He then sold the car a few months later at a huge loss after the engine started burning a quart of oil every week. This car single-handedly put him in financial distress.

$1,000 is great price for a car even if it’s ultimately not very reliable. Baby it around for about a year. Way cheaper than financing a car. My dad had Pintos, Vega, Gremlin, Matador, Hornet and long list of other junk cars but he got them to last for long time and he got his money’s worth out of them. Keep up good work for showing people how to save money and have fun doing it

I understand your passionate dislike of this car but it’s operable and cheap. $1,000 is worth the risk of potentially getting some use out it. I can and have. taken a car out of a junkyard and drove it several months. Great video he was trying to get people to understand value in cheap car
@jrrand7319
@jrrand7319 3 ай бұрын
@@Rick-vg2pz It's not even a risk. With a cooling system issue, you must spend money practically immediately to repair it. Almost certain, you will have to tow the vehicle, unless you're willing to risk completely destroying the engine by overheating it. Your $1,000 initial purchase is now several thousands. Will it even be worth that investment? Absolutely not, the vehicle is totaled, the repairs will not add value, and it will likely need more costly repairs soon after. This car is the true definition of a money pit.

Mine was an 04 6 speed, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Its Achilles heel were the sunroof drains (?) which eventually became irredeemably clogged and led to really bad levels of interior footwell water with expected consequences - and its eventual sale. That aside, it was comfortable and decently fun to drive. Bear in mind that the quattro set up is basically a FWD adaptation, and it the front end would wash out unlike say, a 5 series. But the interior was upscale for 2004 and the ride was quite good. Dad had a 4.2 at about the same time and while I liked the extra power, I preferred mine with the stick (it was a very nice shifter/clutch combo) Midnight blue with BBS basketweave wheels - it was a looker.

I agree with most comments. I like the styling and features, but reliability is atrocious. And maintenance costs are as bad/worse than MB, Ferrari, etc. My son hit a deer with his 2011 Q5. No airbag deployment, but (1) replacement headlight was $2500, hood: $1500. Insurance totaled it, even though we drove it to the body shop. Would Never recommend used Audi.

I work on my own cars, you tell me where you see working room under the hood? I don't. Everytime something needs to be done it's, take the front clip off to get the car in the "service position". That's too much work just to free up space to work. Coupled with less than spectacular reliability, I'd rather have something else because 9/10 it's going to be on jack stands (or in the shop) in the "service position".

@@doug6191 I agree with the other guy. I remember when they came out, and the reaction was shock, even a feeling of abandonment by many Germans luxury buyers I knew. The 96 E-Class wasn't just more radical, it was the first to actually break their own mold of boxy style. I also don't agree that generation E-Class had a boxy read deck and greenhouse. That's to really understate just how boxy and angular German cars were in thee 80s and early 90s. Germans cars were literally just boxes with sharp edges prior the E-Class redesign in 96.

It was a mechanical disaster and required $5,500 in engine repairs with less than 50,000 miles The dealer was a nightmare to deal with and it never worked. Runaway from anything with a 2.7T. The car must be taken apart to service it. It was worse than my 2.0T which also broke regularly. These cars don't make any sense if you need them to use as transportation. Brendan, this pile sold for $700 because it needs somewhere around $10,000 worth of repairs and maintenance in order to be a halfway reliable daily driver. Or is it $15,000? Or $20,000? Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and others sell for "junk" money because owners are running away from bankrupting repair and maintenance costs. Moral of the story: Don't even spend $700 for one of these things, if you can't afford to have it towed out of your driveway and over to your local junkyard.

Yeah but there's always someone who pops in claiming your point is invalid because their cousin's friend's great-uncle had an Audi that went 500,000 mi with just oil changes. Meanwhile people are gonna be watching this video like "wow I guess these aren't total junkers after all" and end up in a world of pain.

It’s cheap because it’s junk.

@LukeEdward I see TONS of these at Junk yards. My business has me at junk yards multiple times a week sourcing parts. There is a reason they are all in junk yards. They are more expensive to repair the common problems than the car is worth.

@@garage2track But surely cheaper than buying a new car.. Costs more than its worth is not an argument.

@martinsvensson6884 ok, you can dump money into whatever pile of junk you desire. We aren't comparing the A6 to a brand new car. You will spend an absurd amount to keep one of these on the road compared to most other vehicles from the same model year. Like I said before there is a reason why so many owners send them to the junk yard instead of repairing them. I guess they decided it wasn't worth it compared to replacing the vehicle. I go to 6 junk yards a week, sometimes multiple times a week. There are always a good bunch of these. Hmmm, I wonder why

@martinsvensson6884 kinda funny as a mechanic, cost to repair the vehicle exceeding the value of the car was extremely important to most customers. Only special vehicles were ever excluded. An A6 is not special 🤣
