It was some of the most egregious recency bias I have seen in the national media. Basically ignoring Celtics being dominant for a full season because they didn't get any tough competition in the conference finals But that's of course why they swept at the conference finals and went 12 and two overall.

I’m sure he desperately wanted to prove himself after the disappointing ‘22 finals but like every great leader does he swallowed his pride and did the dirty work instead. He took 5 shots in the fourth when the game was already decided as he was trying to find his rhythm and he missed 4 out of 5 of those shots which is why his field goal percentage looks bad. He generated a game high 14 potential assists that his teammates missed which is more than Luka who only generated 7… not to mention the hockey assists. Again the stat sheet won’t tell you he played a good game unless you really dig into the specifics

Yeah I think Luka has to lose a finals before he wins one. I’m not counting the Mavs out yet but it seems to be that most superstars have to lose at least one to understand what it takes to get past the finish line. If the Mavs lose I’d bet Luka comes back next season in much better shape

It’s because the Mavs beat 3 teams that the C’s somewhat struggled with in the regular season but just because we struggled with the Wolves and the Mavs beat the wolves doesn’t mean we can’t beat the Mavs. Teams perform differently against certain teams. I’ve been saying it for a while now I think Dallas’ weakness is fast pace offense. Luka is an incredible player but he’s slow, gasses out fast, and isn’t the greatest defender. You put a good fast player like JB against him and he’s done.

I think the Celtics were paying attention to the doubters and the national media kissing up to the Mavs. They went out in Game 1 needing to remind the basketball world why they were the best team in the NBA all season long. I just don’t see how Dallas can defend. If you watch the game, no Celtic really went off offensively (outside Portzingis for just the first half), Tatum can play better, Prichard went 0-7 from 3, Brown was their leading scorer with 22. Everyone talks about how Kyrie and Luka can be better (and that I’m suspicious of, a bit better but Boston will make it difficult to do so. Luka may get 35 but he won’t be playing D, he won’t be efficient and I think Boston has the guards to defend Kyrie, at least limit him to under 20) The series is more about the other guys imo, if the rest can’t get 60+ points together I don’t see think the math works out, unless Luka averages 40+ppg in wins

Combined the Mavs duo averaged 0.6ppg (scored 4 more points in Game 1) than the C's. The difference isn't as great as everyone else made it out to be, however the C's duo is really good defensively, the Mavs' has been just passable for like two months. I just can't see where they get their defense from

Ceitics are just more of a complete team than mavs. Possibly better defensively than the mavs. Combo defensive guards than mavs / decent offensive guards to approach mavs offensive above average guards.
