For anyone wanting to dip into the target archery game but you’re on a fixed budget: Use your hunting bow and spend your money on great target accessories. It’s nice to have two bows that are tuned for each type of archery, but usually those season don’t overlap so it won’t be an issue.

Maybe it's just me since I have 0 knowledge about target archery, but I'd appreciate a very basic video about it. I mean I don't even know how you get to a 300 score. Maybe for most that's obvious, but I think it would help more than a few people follow along better. Either way keep up the good work.

From a place of zero knowledge in the target world, a good idea to start is to watch the pros shoot to get an overall feel for it. Watch the vegas shoots of past years. Watch the lancaster classic shootoffs from past years. Watch the world archery shootoffs from past years. World archery also does 50 meter outdoor competitions for compounds. Then there is the ASA 3d shootoffs you can watch... that is usually a good way to start to learn what its about. Its all available to watch on youtube too. The commentary is sometimes a bit lacking for someone new, but they do their best to explain things while also commentating for the regulars. The hunting influencers dabble with target archery and they give some good information, but their knowledge is not very deep and your best bet is to learn things from the top people in the sport. I love to see that Tim and others like him are finding the world of target shooting more and more. Its a growing sport and its great to see. Nothing comes close to improving your ability more than target archery and shooting local tournaments. Shooting a ton of arrows, and shooting them with purpose is how you get better, as well as keeping your score whether its 3d, outdoor, or indoor. Its a good way of seeing your improvements manifest in reality. Go down the rabbit hole my friend! Target archery has been a blessing in my life. It did not take long until I was hooked. It all started with my hunting bow and slowly putting more and more target accessories on it. Then it was not long until I got an actual target bow and the tools to work on everything myself. That was all she wrote. Its given me some amazing experiences, and have met a pile of cool people through the tournaments. Its good for adults to have something to want to be competitive with, and its a TON of fun at the same time. Good luck!!

I’ve learned a ton from your videos as well as all the elk shape and podium archer stuff. We briefly met at SVA the other day. I’m about three months into shooting bows and have gone full obsession with the entire sport, with no end in sight. Content like yours makes it really easy to learn and develop my own game. I shot my first k40 tournament this past weekend. It was a blessing and had a really good time. I think I'm going to tinker a little this year and buy an 18 to 24 in podium bar and a 12 out back, almost forgot the podium 10* QD. Hoping the Lord allows me to pick up a hinge 2. Love the video brother. Thinking off season will be deep dives into target, wishing I would have gotten into it sooner.

Its a world of fun thats for sure!.... In my opinion on the bars, just go all in and run a 26-32" bar out front. You will end up there eventually if you stick with target shooting... I bought a set of really good bars and they move with me from bow to bow. Buy once, cry once. lol. I run a 30" front and 12" side which is probably the most common set-up for stabilizers on a target bow. Just start light with the weight and then move up as you get stronger with your hold.

I’m thinking “Obi wan” for your new target rig. Love the target content. My 17yo son & I are shooting winter spot league at our local archery shop (Boneyard Archery) as well as weekly money shoots at another local shop (Fuel Outdoor Gear). It’s super fun! As a volunteer high school archery coach for my son’s shooting team I try to consume as much archery content as I can to help learn how to teach the kids how to shoot better scores. Between you, MFJJ, BMac, JamesV, Dudley, Morgan, Bee & TimG I’ve picked up all kinds of tips that have helped me both as a coach and an archer. At 53yo my eyes aren’t what they used to be. My high score is 291 with 10x twice using my hunting rig. V3 31, trinity rest, BG Pro Hunter HD 3pin, 10” flatline, Like Mike release & Vforce gamer arrows. I’m 95% hunter & 5% archer but I’m enjoying shooting indoor with my son. He’s a senior so he’ll be off to college in 7 months. Hating that already so I’m trying to soak up as many hours I can with him now. Love your content! Keep it up!

If you want to get to 300 I would recommend getting to 20xs first. When you’re shooting for Xs and not 10s the tens will come naturally. Your good shots really need to be a single hole in the X to keep all your bad shots in the 10.

keep them up! everybody is talking about stabilizer weights are important but i havent found content on how to help different things. and maybe very general thoughts like up down float needs what? left right needs what? obviouly its goin to be alittle different for everyone. but coming from hunting bows where we just buy a 10" and learn to shoot it. a shove in the right direction would help! thanks for content and keep grinding to 100k

My personal opinion is to shoot 300-400 arrows everyday and you will see your scores go up quickly. I found that by shooting back to back to back 300 rounds on a five spot face, my float got very tight and my mechanics were basically a natural reflex. My personal best on an FAA five spot was 300-58X in a tournament. Those two X's are the unicorn I'm chasing. LOL. Good videos keep on keepin on!

Sometimes the elusive high score comes out of nowhere. I typically shoot about a 287-291, with 10-14X out of my hunting bow with microdiameter arrows. That said, last summer I had a random day where I shot a 299, 15X with the same setup. Haven't been able to replicate it since, and no explanation for why it happened. Just felt terrific that day and my pin was steady - almost felt easy.

Mr. Conner, appreciate the fact that your slinging with different bows. Nobody seems to make a bad bow these days and there's just so many out there. I have a favor to ask, since you have all the "jale" that's Spanish slang for "pull". Ask Josh Jones if he would consider making a 20" bar for the B stinger Counter Slide. Either Micro Hex or Standard. Those stabilizers, for me, totally eliminate the need for a back bar as far as a hunting setup or bowhunter class 3d setup. I've emailed and called and left messages to no avail. Realize there's not demand but I have to try. Replacing the 15" bar for a 20 would just be money for those stabilizers.

Love the channel and content, Tim! Playing devil's advocate, wouldn't going from shooting superior stabilization equipment indoors detract from accuracy in hunting situations? If you're used to perfect conditions, then direct exposure to suboptimal conditions should make you substantially less effective, right? I think target archery is fine but you have to make sure you transition back to a hunting setup/application and re-acclimate to those conditions in order to be a more effective bowhunter. I wish the target archery world would promote bowhunter setups over open because shooting a 300 or a perfect score is much more impressive and can directly correlate to better success in the field. Would love to hear your thoughts on open vs bowhunter class and why open gets all the praise/attention when bowhunter is truly more impressive and applicable.

Can you buy accuracy? Yes. Yes you can. I know people like to talk about it in terms of a bow's "forgiveness" but the reality for the majority of shooters is that means less aberration without perfect execution and to me that means it's simply more accurate. I'm not surprised to see someone from the golfing space dabble in high end archery equipment. You know the deal. I'd say own it unapologetically. It shows your commitment and dedication of your limited resources to improvement. Forget the haters. The question you and Josh should try to answer with your sub $1k bow build isn't "how accurate can it be?" It should be how good can you get if you just shot that bow because it's what you have. I would bet the answer turns out to be that a $1k bow build doesn't limit someone dedicated to it at all. The tradeoff is the # of arrows through it to meet the accuracy of a higher end bow right after building (or even just shooting a little) that higher end bow.

🎯🎯🎯“The 300 Goal” = shoot 10,000 shots in 90 days you will or should average 298. You’ll have to define your shot process just like shooting a free throw in basketball…repeating the same thing everytime. Measure with a stop watch on your phone the amount of seconds you average from full draw to release…then measure the seconds you can aim until you begin to break down. Do this several times…let me know where you end up at this point…then I’ll take you to the next step…🎯🎯🎯

Every shot your taking your fighting the bow. The top cam looks like its bouncing back and forth while at full draw. Perhaps your side bar is out too far
