I love how he was mentioning that Henry Fox Talbot really struggled with drawing, and they show images of him looking very frustrated.

The algorithm just doesn't like Camera Lucida at the moment it seems. Pablo is such a great interview his passion for the topic is so clear to see.

Thank you for the effort to make this video. Don't feel discouraged by the numbers. I do really appreciate the variety of example and the expert interview. I am about 11 months late due to an unhealthy watch later - but I really hope there is more. The name Basil Hall sounds really familiar. They were mentioned in one of the greatest Objectivity videos with Astronaut Don Pettit. I really hope you have seen that KZbin channel from Brady Haran before, and know the episode I recall. It would totally fit your intrests.

Yay! I am so very glad to see this. Last year I found a 19th cent. Am. artist, of vistas that are now called Luminism. He was reportedly disabled most of his life. The definition in his paintings is remarkable. He was a lithographer in Boston for a while to then paint remarkable seascapes. I had heard of a Lucida camera and understood the principle but this makes my understanding of this artist, Fitz H. Lane, so much better. I also travelled to DC to see his painting at the National Gallery of Art.

I'm so glad that we're finally getting these new upgraded features in the NeoLucida Plus. I was really hoping Pablo Garcia would continue to develop the the NeoLucida into a much more sophisticated product!

Henry Fox Talbot did not invent photography! He invented the Calotype (or Talbotype). Joseph Nicéphore Niépce invented photography in 1826.

Just ordered the deluxe set. I expect no problems with the mirrored head but now I'm having doubts about the prism head. I can't see it working without corrective lenses. All the antiques have that in common. Already looking at lense addition options as I'm positive they are needed even with 20/20 vision.

Cool! However, is this only designed for right-handed people? Or can you flip it and use it as a leftie? Coz it looks like the arm/fixture of the device is in the way when you try to draw as a left handed person. (Yes I know you can fix it to the side of a table but it limits your options)

I am not sure if this was mentioned about the Lucida; it could also be a tool for the common person. Not everyone could be a da vinci and having an optical tool could be very handy for biology/botanists who want accurate drawings. Basically, it could be the "selfie" camera of yesteryear.

Anything other than your fingers is a tool. An artist will use any tools he can to achieve the results he is looking for. When I paint I use brushes, my finger nails, fingers, rags, paper towels, air brushes, projectors and the lucida. It depends on the subject. When I am being spontaneous, I use a pencil, oil sticks and oil paint. When Im being precise, air brush. For still lifes, portraits and landscapes, the lucida. I love using all my tools. But the lucida is fun because it feels like cheating. When I use it and people see it they want to try it. I let them. They usually say the same thing. That its cheating. I tell them to start drawing using it. It takes them about a minute or two to get the hang of it. They will do a quick sketch. And it usually comes out fine. They will say its cheating after they use it with the results they get. I then do the same drawing with a new piece of paper. When Im done they say oh. Its not cheating. They see the difference. My drawing is fully formed and a real piece of art. They then understand its only a tool. Its not a cheat code to becoming an accomplished artist. Its only a tool. In the right hands it becomes something else. Its the same as a chisel. Its what you do with it that is the difference. If you are thinking of getting one do it. You wont be disappointed. But there is definitely a curve to it. But once you get the feel for it, it feels you to be more creative and daring. If you mess up the sketch you can just start over. Its the best tool I have for sure. Other than my finger nails.

@MathieuStern i think i found one last year. Olympus tokio. Nice box with apparatus, but no instruction. Matches with the microscope i have... But i can't find any video or even what it is called. Thought it would be more of a projector. It's a useful thing. Mail this to art schools if you haven't already.

This is as troubling for the world of art as "Artificial Intelligence" and strange that they might emmerge now at the same time even though the camera lucida is centuries old. It's just another challenge, and for authenticity to shine from real artists. Real artists will be able to increase monetisation of their art if it is done without cheating. How will the real artists prove the authenticity is another question.
