Can’t figure out why any of y’all can justify buying a sawmill just because you want one

I also can't figure out how people justify 60-100k vehicles, 500k homes, 2k cellphones, 3k Apple laptops, 6k Disney vacations and all the other crap society tells you it's ok to own. My guess is that you have some of that. If I want a $3k sawmill and I work for it, that's my business.

The bandsaw looks like a good solution to get the size of smoking wood. It's not recommended to wear gloves when operating a bandsaw. If the blade was to touch the glove the teeth will grab and pull your hand into the blade. Be careful. Thanks for the video.

cherry, hickory and hard maple is considered competition blend. so if you have that on your property, that's premium blend. cherry, post oak blend would be great or cherry with any other hardwood would bring premium. instead of selling just cherry. figure spread your good stuff for more premium selling
@TKCL
@TKCL 10 ай бұрын
No maple here. But I do have oak, cherry and occasionally find hickory. Oak and cherry take care of all my cooks. Sometimes I'll buy apple for special cooks, but it isn't strong enough for me on most cooks.

I bet there’s a bandsaw blade that would cut firewood even better if that’s all you’re going to use that bandsaw for. I bet there’s a specific tpi, kerf, and width that would be good for it. I got a bandsaw blade for doing resaw veneer work and it has way less tpi and kerf for that purpose. I do like the idea of using a bandsaw for firewood and smoking wood. Need to remember this.

As a HS shop teacher, 3-4 TPI would be something I would recommend. I use that type of blade for doing lots of lumber cuts and rips with no issue. Delta 14" is my go to and reliable and lots available on Marketplace.
@TKCL

6 tpi is what I could easily find. A 14 inch will be my go to if the demand is there.

Save your money. Your idea of buying a larger bandsaw in the future is a bit of a stretch. The bigger saw will not do anything to increase production of smoker chunks or smaller firewood pieces. The only reason anyone needs to move up to a larger unit is if you intend to resaw thick lumber to thinner stock on a regular basis. Then you're going to need a larger shop area for it too. That might save a few minutes of setup for cutting up your smoker chunks, but you can do that just by giving the table top unit permanent bench space. I have a small bandsaw I use somewhat infrequently for cutting up small pieces. I have it on wheels so I can pull it out when I need it. I'd like the bigger unit too, but my needs for resawing are too infrequent to be able to justify the purchase. Your plan of a saw mill will take care of the thinner stock too, as then you can cut your stock any thickness you want in the first place. Keep using the small saw for the small stuff, and put your cash towards the sawmill. A Sawmill will make you more than any big bandsaw. Considering you already have the raw logs it'll save you more too.
@TKCL

Good info! I just bought some quality bandsaw blades with low tpi and made specifically for rough, dry hardwood. These might get me all the speed I'll ever need.

Notice that every piece you cut off, you pull back, then WATCH, your hand goes right across in front of the blade. A safer way would be to pull back through and toss in a bin on the left. Wearing gloves on these machines is deceiving. If the blade catches it, it will pull it in so fast... But if you have no gloves on, your skin will feel wind from the teeth and wake you up.
