Oh it could have been the Canucks equipment guys fooling around... Sounds like he's talking about two different events - they saw Vancouver Canucks walking in... They heard they were practicing lifting a cup and passing it to each other Could have happened - I don't think they allow open practices all the time, especially around playoffs But I wouldn't worry about hockey tradition now, no one else does! Traditions been thrown out the window completely - when I heard the media and NHL fans accusing hockey being racist? The first sport where you heard players from three different countries speaking three different languages on the same team back in the 1960s? Hockey was building hockey rinks where US military was blowing things up Hockey lifted that iron curtain long before Reagan came along and tore down that wall But hockey fans either joined in or stood by, ignoring the history and tradition of hockey - and allowed that to happen? Done Sweeney took the word of the only black NHL agent, and an elderly black male judge, Willie O'ree, and several other members of diversion groups, who felt that Mitch Miller deserved to be rehabbed - yet he became the whipping post for that, we are racists and bullies? What seriously blows my mind, and tells me that tradition has been long gone? bruins fans joined in on this vitriol. Tradition? Loyalty Tolerance You commit a penalty, go to the box, serve your time, it's over- Second chances Like the second or third chance they gave to an alcoholic coach, bringing him to the bruins. I wonder if he sleeps at night curious as to whether there's some video footage of some of the dumbass things he did -people he hurt as an adult!

Chara’s not the kind of person to just flat out lie about something like that. We also have to remember he still has a slight language barrier cause he isn’t a native English speaker, so that could answer some of the inconsistencies with the whole “see” “heard” deal. My guess is that they either saw or heard about something the Canucks were doing that might have accidentally seemed like practicing lifting the cup, when in reality it was a misunderstanding and something completely different happened

I’m sure the story is true as to the way the Bruins reacted. What is unclear is who saw what/where/when. Most likely a player or coach embellished something they saw to get the team fired up and it worked as a motivational tactic. When Chara said “We saw” he’s obviously talking in the team sense and not the personal sense, so it’s definitely possible he believes something happened that didn’t.

Chara broke a guy's neck when the puck was nowhere near him and didn't even get a 2 minute minor. The Canucks fielded an ECHL defense, not even an AHL defense in the cup final and shut the bruins out twice. The fact the Canucks had the officials, the NHL against them and no D at all and took it to 7 games is nothing short of a miracle. Lucic did a low blow to Hamhuis and took him out. They literally broke Raymond's back on a hit from behind and no penalty. There's videos of Brad Marchand punching Canuck after Canuck with impunity. The best karma though is Boston's complete meltdowns in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2019. The Blues in 2019 was the sweetest when they did to the Bruins EXACTLY what the Bruins did to the Canucks. So sweet! Almost as good as when they blew a 3-0 lead to the Flyers in 2010.

Aaron rome gets a 6 game suspension for a late hit, thomas bodies henrik when he’s on a breakaway, marchand punching sedin in the face right in front of the ref.. all because “thats bruins hockey baby.” If that was the canadiens or the leafs, the bruins would have been in the box the whole series. If it turns out Chara misspoke or is entirely wrong (despite obviously believing the words he spoke to be true), and now that's it's in the news cycle, I expect a full clarification or retraction/apology from Chara forthcoming. He's a big enough man (pun intended) to admit when he's wrong.

I heard another tidbit as well-Apparently one of the Boston guys took some ice from TD Garden put in a labeled water bottle, brought it to Vancouver and dumped it on the Rogers Place ice surface during a practice…cheeky stuff man! 😉😏

No way guys as competitive as Bieksa, Kesler and Burrows would let someone "practice" lifting the cup before they had won it. Sedins too. If Chara saw anything would not have been the players maybe fans, or other staff or family but no way would those guys have done something like that.

Chara is straight up lying. And why though? He got a bought and paid for Stanley Cup, we all know daddy Campbell was making sure the games were called differently in the final so his son could win a cup. We've seen the emails. If you want controversy, why has that never been a bigger story?

"We saw" might mean "the team saw" ... not necessarily him. A possibility anyway. If 2 or 3 people from the team claim to have seen it, that could be "we". Just like a fan watching the game and at the end saying, "We" won. I could also see where maybe one or 2 of the players were goofing around and doing this. Sounds childish enough to be true.

People say that Vancouver crybabies can’t get over from 2011. What about veteran/retired Bruins player(s) like Chara? To cook up a story like this, especially after a decade after it allegedly happened seems sus. If it really did happen, which he claimed it was in TD Garden, someone would’ve commented it or reported (TSN, Sportsnet, etc,) it.

One year my high school hockey team made it the state finals in Pennsylvania. We lost. To this day I never told anyone I touched the trophy before the game. I didn't know about the superstition. We was a single a school playing a quad a school. So we weren't gona win anyway. They had more kids graduate every year then my entire school had kids combined.

Yeah, there's no way this happened, for many reasons. It's just very unlikely on its face. And if it had happened, why is this the first time it has come up since 2011? Chara is either telling tall tales for god knows what reason, or he dreamed it and now can't distinguish his dream from reality.

"funny" story.. Brayden Schenn was in a commercial for SaskTel where he lifted a slightly resembling mem cup trophy. the Saskatoon Blades were considered the best team in the west and projected to go far. however, the Blades were swept by kootenay in the 2nd round. i doubt the canucks did what Chara claims.

Kinda weird seeing all the comments claiming the 2011 series was fixed. You guys are nuts, if Tim Thomas didn’t will the Bruins to victory almost every time they would have had no chance. Not sure how good a fix is, if it relies on a goalie playing out of his mind.
