In The Walking Dead the more that we start to discuss the story of the comics the more that it becomes clear there’s a gaping hole in the story that many fans of the TV series wouldn’t be able to miss upon reading, and that’s of course the fact that Daryl Dixon, a fan favorite in the show, doesn’t exist at all in the comics. Now later on in the series we do get a character that many fans felt was Robert Kirkman’s version of Daryl for the comics, but interestingly enough in the show these two actually end up meeting and having their plots intertwined quite a bit, however that’s a story for another time. Daryl’s absence from the Comic book is something that really stood out to me after rereading the comic for the first time since I saw the entire show from start to finish, and without the drama of him and his brother Merle, we actually move through the beginning section of the story much quicker with us getting to know all of the different characters at camp in the first few chapters, but this actually comes with a major drawback since we know in the TV show Daryl would eventually go on to become Rick’s Right hand man and would even be one of the group’s biggest protectors, but without him, things are going to be MUCH more difficult for the characters in the comic.

Dwight is Daryl in the comics it’s said that they wanted Dwight to be in the beginning so he can join Rick and it makes more sense but that was scrapped cause everyone loved Daryl but you can see it’s place when they torture him with the easy street etc

Well, in the original comics, there were only Rick, Carl, Sophia, Maggie, Glenn, Heath and Michonne on Negan's line up, Abraham had died a few issues prior, so he wasn't there, and well, on the "Eenie Meenie Miny Mo", Glenn got the short end of the stick and well, you know what happended.

this is why the comics are better the further in you got while the show was better early on up thru the governor arc was when it peaked after that it began heavily to deviate from the comics it kept running parallel sure but just up to mid negan arc then it went off and the whisperers and post negan is where it began to seriously deviate and really dropped the ball

I would honestly love to see a spin off comic about characters and plot points lost from the show, Having it center around the Comic versions of The Dixons, T-Dog, Beth (who could be a cousin of the Greene leading that group to end up at the farm way later one showing us it’s state by all our war) and others like Sasha, Dr Jenner, and the CDC introduced, with the later issues having Daryl make his way to Richmond and having it tie in to Javier from the games.

Daryl not being there gives the rest of the characters more time to shine. For instance, carol actually being likeable and relateable, or not having the rest of the cast be complete dumbass all for dramatic effect
