I really appreciated your review. Thanks for doing it. I bought my Glarry guitar and it arrived this morning. I was surprised how nice it is. I'm a beginner and didn't want to invest a huge amount of money just to see how I would enjoy learning guitar. This fit the bill perfectly. I compared it to the Fender Stratocaster and the weight and dimensions are very close, which was my concern. The tone sounds clear and rich and the accessories are fantastic. I paid 110. for mine, but it included a very nice little 20-watt amp, which works just great and the package had lots of styrofoam to protect it in transit. I love the classic Sunburst (aka "Sunset") finish, as well. I'll be subscribing to your videos and appreciate the effort you put into them. Thanks so much!

I've bought 3 Glarry guitars, GST-E, GST-170, and GST H-H(sold more commonly under Pyle). I learned the most from the 170, as it had the most wrong by far. The E is my main player/chugger, but the H-H is actually a whole step up in quality and components. Once setup, it actually plays as good as some of my upper stuff, even an Ibanez of mine.

Nice review, Dave. Last year I picked up a green one, because like you say, I wanted a beater guitar I didn’t have to worry about. I have 16 guitars, and some are very pricey. I like the green one because all sides of the guitar are the same color, which highlight the nice grain of the wood. I had to file the nut because cowboy chords would not stay in tune. When I lowered the saddles to bring the action down, the set screws were so high they made my palm uncomfortable. Going to eBay I ordered a set of brass neck shims $9. This took care of that problem. I polished the frets, put a new set of Ernie Ball strings and... for less than $100 I have a very good looking, light and playable axe. I plan to put a pre wired Guitar Fetish pick guard with better pickups $35-50 in next. Overall, I’m happy with this great looking , cheap Strat copy. You are right, you need this guitar, just be ready to do some adjustments...

Thank you! I appreciate that! I haven't looked under the hood of my guitar to check, but I looked at Phillip McKnight's channel, and he did a video where he upgraded a Glarry. In that video, he shows that the rout on a Glarry is H/S/H. So assuming you have the pick guard for it, a humbucker should just be a drop-in replacement.

@BeastMadeReviews
@BeastMadeReviews 3 жыл бұрын
I think it really depends on your budget and your goals with guitar. Glarry offers a very inexpensive guitar that will require a few tweaks or some work to get it just right. If you have DIY experience, or you want to learn that experience for guitar, I think it should be fine. I also think it's a great option if you don't have a lot of money to spend and need/want something right now. But I think if you really want to stick with guitar for years to come and you have a deeper desire to learn and play, I would suggest a different guitar that would serve you well for much, much longer. One guitar I highly recommend is the Yamaha Pacifica (my first guitar, and still a great one). Those guitars are inexpensive compared to higher end brands, and not much more than Glarry. But they are far better. The quality, finish, and sound are much better on the Yamaha, and think it would be a much better experience to play as a beginner.

U2 🤭 I bought a fender copy for my bro last year second hand and was astonished at how well it handled. About $80 too. Of course, he just wanted something to take apart and tinker with, but right from the get-go I was impressed with the sound. A year later, I couldn't recognize the thing. Different components, different colour, different sound. So I suppose if that's what you're after, it could be an option.

You can get a tusq nut. I bought them eBay for my 2 Glarry Strats. The same nut for a Tele. I didn't have to file the nut slots, pre filed. Only the ends of the nut for comfort on my hand. The nut is self lubricating. They hold tune great but oddly I had to replace just one of the same tuning machines on each Strat. I put budget pickups in them and they are great daily players ✌

@@BeastMadeReviews yes exactly. If I mess up, it won't be a huge loss. I'm thinking about eventually replacing the neck with a nice Warmoth strat neck. The only issue I'm worried about is the weight. Because the body and neck are so light on this Glarry. I'm wondering if I'd need to put some sort of weight on the body to make the weight more even if I do that.

@BeastMadeReviews 3 жыл бұрын
@@ffas23 any strat knobs should work fine. There is a difference between American-made and foreign-made pots, but it's really slight. Since they are plastic, you can get a drill bit and slowly (by hand) ream out a little from the shaft in the knob. Or you can try to find some foreign-made strat knobs. They might be better out of the box. As for pickup covers, I believe those are standard across the board, so you should be able to get a set of strat pickup covers anywhere.

I bought myself a Glarry some months ago as a project guitar intended for modding. You are correct about the nut; mine wasn't set up at all. Since it was cheap plastic (which I hate), I determined that it would go anyway, and replaced it with a graphite nut (ProLine) from Guitar Center/Musician's friend. I'd also decided to replace the bridge and got a cheap Wilkinson off Amazon. Turned out to be cheaper than I'd intended, with a zinc block instead of the steel I wanted -- but it seems fairly cool so far, so I'm considering keeping it. I'm also considering keeping the neck and middle pickups. The bridge pickup I already replaced with single-coil-sized humbucker. I've been pleasantly surprised with the resultant tone. Wiring is SUPER cheap, so I've got a wiring harness coming. I already have some roller string trees, so all I need now are some decent tuners. I'll probably use Wilkinson EZ Loks, which are simple, reliable, and help the tech to tie a locking knot into the string without using a mechanism with moving parts to break. In my opinion, this brand of guitar is best purchased by someone looking for a project that starts with a new guitar. I have modded used guitars, and find it pleasant to start with a guitar that doesn't necessarily have fret wear to address or a playing-dirtied fretboard to clean. Great for experimentation; if you frag it, who cares? For the kale, these guitars rock!😎❤️️🎸‼️

If you want an amazing cheap strat buy an SX fender copy. i have played guitar and other instruments for twenty five plus years. They sound incredible. Honestly this guitar does not sound good at all and for someone who has played as long as you I wasn’t blown away by your skill level of playing.

I wasn't trying to impress you or anyone else. I've heard of SX and I definitely need to try them.

As a musician you should always try to impress. Yea you definitely need to check them out. Have you ever reviewed a Harley Benton guitar?

I have 4 different SX Strats. The quality is great for the price. I did end up changing the pickups in them to make them sound better. The SX Strat pups are better than Glarrys, hotter but not as high output as I like. I also have 2 SX other style guitars with P90's and those pups are good!
