Banjo-Tooie is technically a 3D Metroidvania, and that's why I love it. It took what the first game did, which emulated Mario 64, and gave it it's own identity with all sorts of bells and whistles (FPS sections, sports minigames, splitting up, all the transformations, and even PLAYABLE MUMBO) that only added to the experience. Glad to know there's people out there that love Tooie as well

@justanotherhankhillaccount @knatkniht Banjo-Tooie is not at all a metroidvania. A metroidvania is a game that merges Metroid backtracking features and Castlevania (SOTN-like) rpg features And Banjo-Tooie does not do that. There is no level or experience, there are no weapons or armors, there is no deep statistics system (str, mag, agi, def, res, luck) and there is no build system (magic, physic, tank, support) Because of the backtracking system, Banjo-Tooie is at best a Metroid-like (and it is not, it's or an action-adventure game, an action-platform game, or a platform-adventure game)

Edit: Unpopular opinion: I actually think Grunty Industries is one of the better worlds in Banjo-Tooie. It's obtuse and initially hostile to navigate, but it feels intentionally designed that way, like finding easier ways to traverse it is a puzzle in and of itself. Compare that to Glitter Gulch Mine or Terrydactyland where they feel difficult to navigate as an oversight. It also perfectly compliments the changing of control with certain characters, particularly the washing machine transformation. Admittedly, a series of analysis videos by Veegie helped me in seeing the appeal behind Grunty Industries, and now I appreciate it far more now than I used it. Original comment: I miss cheat codes in video games. Some games still do them, UFO 50 is a good recent game that does something like that, but stuff like this feels, more often than not, stuff that's relegated to DLC (paid or otherwise)... or maybe a preorder bonus or some nonsense.

I played Tooie for the first time during the pandemic and I ended up being really impressed with that world in particular. Grunty Industries essentially re-contextualizes Banjo Tooie's mechanics into a metroidvania-like progression where you slowly unlock each level of the factory for each of your different states and transformations. The way you break into the factory immediately sets the tone for the rest of the level, it's essentially a big puzzle that makes you think about Tooie's exclusive mechanics in a way no other world in the game does. Mad ambitious level, really nothing like any of the other levels in either game. If anything I wish other Tooie levels would've tried as hard as it did, I'd say a lack of strong identity is something most weaker Tooie levels have in common.

The only context in which Banjo Tooie was "too big" was in the sense that it ran pretty badly on the N64 at times. And I still had a blast. I never felt like traversal was a chore, that's what the teleport pads are for. My only actual issue was that navigating was sometimes a bit confusing because the levels have so many interior areas that even after playing it several times I always misremember where certain entrances lead.

@Sphendrana
@Sphendrana Ай бұрын
@@asra-5180 So you want to put words into my mouth that I NEVER considered or cared about. Interesting. TL;DR at the end Point 1: Leaderboards don't interest me, never have, never will. Point 2: Of ALL the leaderboards I have seen, ALL of them have had cheaters in the first 10 pages alone, some even deeper into the 100s. Conclusion: Devs don't have the time/don't care to fix any issues with the leaderboard functionality. Therefor they simply WILL have cheaters there, ALWAYS. Point 3: Emulators exist. NSO can mow my grass, since I'm not touching it, I'm playing games. I play NSO games without "owning" them because everyone wants to make you own nothing and subscribe to everything for the privilege of temporary paid usage. Since I have a non-currency paying job (I take care of my cancer patient parents at home), I have no funds to purchase media of *any kind*, thus my only option is emulation. I am not upset about this in the slightest, can we tell? Anyways, disabling key gameplay features like BEING ABLE TO SAVE THE GAME because one is simply enjoying it with cheats enabled IS BAD GAME DESIGN. The point of the cheats is firstly to develop the game, as devs use them for debugging. After the fact though, they are left in with accessible commands to HAVE FUN with them. TL;DR The short of it all is leaderboards will always have cheaters, and I do not care about them for myself. I just want to be able to play [Single Player Games] with cheats enabled and still have the option to save my game progress.

I did know about the code before, but forgot for a long time. I finished a 100% playthrough last night without super banjo. I played on the xbox version. Here's a sentiment from another video I saw somewhere; treat banjo tooie like a metroidvania. You move around everywhere to get all the moves as much as possible in sections. Once you get all the moves, you can clear everything in one swoop. Yes there is some interaction between worlds, but that was the point of the game. To feel bigger. I remember playing the original on launch day and got so pumped. Interestingly enough magazines rated banjo tooie slightly higher than banjo kazooie when it was released on n64.

The best part about these codes (other than SuperBanjo affecting Mumbo who sorely lacked a mobility option not having/being Kazooie)? They’re toggleable, which is important because certain codes make certain Jiggies harder or in the case of one transformation impossible to turn back to Banjo and Kazooie without quitting out to the title screen. Now, you have to go back to the code room to turn them on or off, but hey, better than it being stuck on and getting softlocked if you couldn’t anticipate it.

To me, the big difference between BK and BT is: BK is a platformer/collect-a-thon. BUT BT could be considered a bit more like an adventure/collect-a-thon. More places to go, more cutscenes, more lore to it. People expected a BK2 but got way more than asked and felt it was a bit too much.

I think when you boil things down, Banjo Kazooie was about rewarding players for COLLECTING things. Tooie on the other hand rewards EXPLORATION with things to collect. The direction of the games are very different in terms of level design, but for me I loved Tooie more because as a kid all I wanted was to get lost in an immersive world with zanny and charismatic characters. I loved going to random worlds and just goofing off, even if I already completed that world. And sometimes that behavior would rewarded by finding new things about the world that only added to my immersion (such as the interconnectivity of levels and figuring out if I could go through most of the worlds without hitting Isle o' Hags or using the train once).

Banjo-Kazooie is more tightly designed game; It hits its marks more effectively (outside of rusty bucket bay), but its a more linear and focused experience. Banjo-Tooie is way more ambitious, and in its ambition it doesn't hit all the marks as well as its predecessor, but I love and appreciate all the new and great ideas it brings and the interconnectivity it emphasize, even if some of them are not great. I also prefer Tooie over Kazooie, and it's one of the games that I played the most in my childhood. And yes, Glitter Gulch Mine is very catchy hahaha

Left out NESTKING and HONEYKING, infinite feathers and eggs, no health loss but can still die to pits. They're basically the same as the cheats from Banjo-Kazooie known as BANJOBEGSFORPLENTYOFEGGS, NOWYOUCANFLYHIGHINTHESKY, AGOLDENGLOWTOPROTECTBANJO, and ANENERGYBARTOGETYOUFAR. These cheats and the Banjo-Tooie cheats (and many more) have been stuck in my head for 26 years.

IMO, Tooie's bigger flaw isn't travel time, but navigation difficulty. Tooie compared to its predecessor sacrificed elegance for size and variety, and that's not necessarily bad, but the game would be SO much better if it just had a map. There's a lot of backtracking to do due to needing to revisit locations in specific forms, but since areas are often connected by generic tunnels and doors, knowing how to get back to a place is an exercise in pure memorization. It's mentally exhausting. Witchyworld is nice because it consists of thematically-unified sections connected by a hub. Meanwhile, Pterydactyland and Jolly Roger Lagoon feel like exhausting mazes.

Hey peeps, good place for me to ask this question! For YEARS I’ve wondered about this: in Banjo Kazooie’s cheat room you type CHEAT first, and it moos with each letter. If you accidentally type another C after, it moos again! But NONE of the cheat codes in the game start with C!! Can someone find out what that code is that starts with C?? Thanks!!

If only I ever knew a super speed cheat code existed, as that would’ve made my 100% playthrough more efficient (spent 30 hrs on Tooie). I enjoy the sequel more than the first, because the worlds are more expensive and the story takes a more darker tone.

I found out about the code 15 years ago when trying to unlock all the secrets in banjo Kazooie on the Sandcastle floor then seen the code for Super banjo also makes it so you can’t drown very helpful so you don’t need mumbo to create more oxygen for banjo to breathe. Also had some fun with game shark codes bottles revenge. For those that don’t know about it. It makes it so dead bottles can possess bad guys and a second player can come after banjo using the second controller.

I'll be honest. I loved Banjo-Kazooie, but Gruntilda was a bit of a pain. Then in Tooie, i was getting tired by Witchyland, i already had issues with the swimming control in Jolly Roger's lagoon, Terrydactyland size did discourage me a bit, HailFire mountain crushed me, and i tried Cuckoo something something and it was brutally hard, making me fall back to grinding the other levels i didn't really like. I was please to see the fight against Gruntilda was challenging, but more manageable than the first one. All in all it's a mind blowing game. But the first is more manageable!

Personally, I find myself loving the sequels more than the originals at least 75% of the time, even with regards to movies. And this is another point where GameFaqs wins because I just checked and the cheat code is on there. I do wish that more modern games would make use of built-in cheat codes. They can really enhance the game play, especially if they design the game around using them. There were a few games that let you save at the end and retain all of the powers you gained through the course of the game and play the game again with them intact, but I feel like that doesn't take it far enough.

Superbanjo is absolutely a cheat the game tells you about, not some obscure secret. It also breaks the platforming, so it doesn't make the game better, even if it makes it less of a chore.

Real shame the hidden cheats disable saving in the XBLA remaster. This is an easy single player game, there is no reason to punish the player for using fun cheats. Using cheats should've just stopped you from entering the online leaderboards they added in the remaster for some reason.

I am a big fan of Banjo (yes, even Nuts & Bolts), but I am genuinely surprised the number of people that don't know superbanjo is so high. I would have thought everyone knew that code by now. I do not have a favorite between Kazooie and Tooie. Both games have their own strengths and weaknesses that complement each other very well.

One look at the thumbnail (even before that) and I already knew the cheat code in question. I only got around to playing Tooie earlier this year as a 30-year old and that speed-up code was a huge boon in my first-time playthrough of the game. Even still, I prefer DK64 and Banjo-Kazooie of the Banjo-ish Rareware collectathon trilogy.

I played tooie as a youngin but never had kazooie, just played it at a cousins house. When kazooie released on switch, I was confused when the jinjos and notes reset when leaving each world, I stopped playing at the snow world because it was too much replaying to get all of the collectibles. Tooie feels way better

- Love a lot both games, but Tooie is the cherry on the top - I intentionally evade to learn about cheats, so I didnt know the superbanjo cheat as I didnt know the others. So, this and superbaddies are the first ones I know - Game is pretty cool like it is imho. But it could be great to re-playing it with some extra speed - Gruntilda doesn't have a chance against Bowser. I think the experience wins here.

I love Banjo-Tooie. I love big maps. It's just neat to feel like I'm in a world, and not a fancy room. I actually dislike how Banjo-Kazooie required full clears in the stages; you couldn't just collect some of it, and then come back later.
