What makes a brand homages vs microbrsnd. Is it the fact that they are from Europe, I have never seen a Europe brand being labeled as homage while on the other hand any Asian brand that makes a watch that looks remotely similar to any other brand is quickly dismissed as homage.

A microbrand defines the nature of the brand. IE Independently owned, small brand. Homage defines the nature of the watch. IE using many design elements derived from an existing watch. They are not mutually exclusive. A microbrand can release an homage watch, for example.

Sugess is usually regarded as real, a few Chinese watches receive microbrand treatment. I just bought a new watch and was stuck between Tissot and sugess and the Sugess was legitimately just so much better than the tissots in my price range and even better than some citizen bargains

No. Not even close. "homages" are simply watches that replicate the look of famous watches of established brands (not are simply "inspired to". They look the same until you are close enough to read the brand's name). This is not a homage because it doesn't replicate the look of ANY particular watch. There are tons of tricompax panda watches out there. None can claim to have a primacy over that. Venezianico doesn't make homages. Every of their watches is original, even if it can have something in common (IE the material of the dial, but not the indexes, or the case, for example) with some other model out there. SOME brand makes both homages and original watches (San Martin, or Sugess, IE). Some makes only homages or, at best, just mixes elements of two famous watches (IE a Daytona dial with a Speedmaster case).

For the difference between "homage" and "inspired to", take the Sugess GMT Diver and the Rdunae R3 Seahorse (they are BOTH Chinese). The Sugess is an HOMAGE, of a Rolex GMT Master II. The Rdunae is INSPIRED to the Exactus Aquamax of 1967. You can't tell apart the Sugess from the Rolex until you are close enough to read the dial. Even if you are one of the few that knows about the 1967 Exactus Aquamax, you can easily tell it apart from the Rdunae, since the Rdunae takes only the dial's design and the double crown from the original, but it's different in every other respect (dimensions, shape of the case, crystal...).

With the Hamilton being found on many gray markets at $1500 I would say the value proposition here is tough. If they could have kept the case finishing and thrown in mecha quarts chrono and been under $500 that would have allowed them to be in a different price category to reach a different market that Higher end swiss watches can't cater to.

Italian design and Japanese precision. Sounds like a great combination. It's a very good movement as well, featuring a column wheel and vertical clutch, basically unheard of in this price point.

Since when Hamilton has better finishing? It's dial is a FAR simpler, printed, thing, it's thicker, l2l is only 0.8mm shorter and, accuracy-wise, I'll bet on the Seiko, that also has column wheel and vertical clutch.

By the way, the NE88 is a ridiculously good movement. It's an 8r series movement that in seiko watches goes for more than this.

Haha. In short, I think it can be summed up as "clicking is fun". Sure, it can be a useful tool at times, but it's not something I use regularly, even when wearing a chronograph. But it sure is fun, and they look cool imo!
