This Classic Saab 900 Makes 400HP!!

Unfortunately this is the last of my footage from SOC :( The guys over at Pearce Racing (located in California) were gracious enough to show off their pair of far-from-stock classic 900's. These cars both have a lot of parts from other Saab models, which just adds to the coolness! What do you guys think?

In sweden, we used the 4 speed boxes for tuned cars, they seemed to last longer. also weld the outer gearbox sides with aluminum plates to reinforce. The housing are are weak, also bolt a thick aluminum plate to the back of the box, where the thin steel plate are bolted on. One of the other weak points are the pinion bearing into the house. Do it right, and you can pull over 400hp, These engines has massive pistons and rods. In the 9000 turbo´s, i have seen engines pulling 550 hp with stock internals.

Hey, i have a SAAB 900 (1993) with around 175 PS and Trionic 5.5 installed. ever since i know SAAB, having my own 900 or getting more and more into the history of the cars, i saw that THE only and biggest weakness was the gearbox if they had to feel the force and Tourque of the Turbo Variants. the rest on my 900 is pretty stock, standard Hard-Turbo Settings, beside the Trionic. i was looking alot about the problem with the gearbox, didnt understand why saab didnt made them stronger (i know that they made them better over time, but appearantly it wasnt enough). what i understood so far, or some sources, forums etc. wanna tell me: dont race it, accelarate normal and not under full pressure in the lower gears. i plan to make a stronger gearbox (with it a reworked engine, standard stats, dont wanna race, but at least having fun on the road) in the future, can u help me what exactly needs to be done, or do you have an article that tells what needs entirely to be done? also, my english isnt that great, so sorry if it isnt readable or i missunderstand something

@@kaisertrinityt.m.i.s1607 Hi, very nice to hear you run an good old Turbo. They are rare, even in Sweden. Pretty much as i wrote the first text, reinforce the house by weld and aluminum plates. Use the 4 speed. The Gearbox can crack at the corners where driveshafts are connected. You’ll have to use better driveshafts or else you will cut them off by engine power. There are some serious tuners in Sweden experts in Saab performance. Contact them. Maptun performance! “Nordic Uhr,” have been racing Saab for 40 years or so. Maybe more.

@@Skyisnotalimit Ah yes, I was already ordering some parts from Maptun, also Do88. Never heard from "Nordic Uhr" before. But one thing for sure is that i wanna stay with the 5 Speed Gearbox, but i can understand why some prefer the 4 Speed, there once was a ralley catalog for the 99/900 and there were parts for a Dogbox 4-Speed. But since i use my 900 as a Summercar (Winter with Salt on the road kill alot of cars here in germany) i wanna stay with and make better what i have. Heuschmidd (another bigger SAAB-Worker) lives about an hour away, they already fix one of my other gearboxes. i hope the work on the future gearbox comes out good, i have a work manuel for these boxes, maybe it comes in handy. after all, there are a few BMWs who needs some punishment or better sayed, a "reminder" that SAAB still rules the streets

theefantom33 my 1998 Saab 900 had rough cold starts due to some sensors on the engine being faulty after replacing almost all the engine sensors car runs and idles and starts smooth as butter

AC on a 900 is like finding a fucking unicorn lol. Actually it lugs down the engine TERRIBLE in my opinion, those systems put an extra 20% strain on the engine and the 900s were nevery "PEPPY" feeling this robs them of any semblance of quick throttle response. My mother had a 900 with the 3 speed auto and I have a 900 SPG, they're quick enough when the boost comes on, but until 3,000 to 4,000 psi you really don't feel it, so having the AC on makes it dog out even harder at lower rpms. Not to mention they're aaaalways broken.

Dang: I cold talk Saab to that dude all day. He left out the part when you go with a big turbo the lag time is up to three seconds. This is 90's tech. All or none (no computer controlled waist gate.) boost. Depending on the psi that's 50 to 100 instant horse power. Then it's a race to shift before the rev limiter kicks on. The experts I've talked to recommend I not to go over 350 hp with out serious (expensive) transmission customizing. E-mailed one guy who beat out 450hp out of his Saab. His video is around here some where. He admitted he couldn't heel toe shift it ;and no more the half gas on the peddle until 3rd gear. I should get off my lazy ass and upgrade to T5 ignition. Driving like a nut while your copilot turns knobs( 90's MSD new one has a USB port) while watching the tack ;is no way to tune a car. lol
