I feel like a dropping leaf when I listen Chopin. I go wherever wind (notes) decides. And I know, they know the right way. While humans are losing what makes them human, classical pieces are medicines of us.

If you have the chance you should listen to Rachmaninoff - Piano Conceto #2. Its a more modern Composer than those youve listened to so far. The piece is in 3 Parts each about 11 minutes long, so in case you dont want to make 30 minute video you could dedicate a video for each one. But its truly worth it to listen to the whole piece

Aight got you, it’ll be a good comparison too, especially since it’s more modern. Thanks for the recommendation! Imma write it down 😌

I always say to people they would be far more decency and kindness in the world if people were introduced to Chopin at an early age…

I feel you on that..just classical music in general would have a great impact if introduced really early in life

I decided to get into classical music about 20 years ago... only casually. When you start reading biographies of the composers and little bits of history, you can appreciate the music in a new context. For example, Chopin lived a few years after Mozart--- and Chopin knew Mozart's music well, and considered him to be a major influence.

I don’t know much about a lot of the composers but I’ve started watching some history videos about them and it’s definitely helped me appreciate what they left behind more.

@@GIDIREACTS Something that really put things into perspective for me was when I discovered that the piano was invented in the year 1700… Bach was fifteen years old at that time, and his piano pieces are among the first to become very popular. And when you listen to Bach’s pieces, you notice a very metered tempo… As new generations grew up with the piano as a commonplace instrument (like Chopin born in 1810), they grow much more willing to experiment with crescendo, tempo changes, improvisation, and complex Harmonies.

The second nocturne is actually Chopin’s more heartbreaking one, heavily influenced by the death of his younger sister at 15 years old earlier the year this composition is composed. You can think of devastating it was for 17yr old Chopin at the time, and it’s made very apparent in the e minor nocturne: sorrow, sadness, regret, etc.

I'm starting to watch your firsts reactions to classical music. I dont know if other people told you this, but, if you see, the name of the pieces you are listening in this video have a meaning. "Nocturne" as you see, is a type of piece composed with the finality of recreate the sound of the night, a sweet lullaby (in the romantic period). Normally these types of pieces are relaxing and is other experience when you are at the night on your bed with your headphones. I'm from Colombia, so i apologize if my english is not the best :)

Welcome to wonderland A few recommendations from my own list. Rachmaninov - Corelli variations (hear end to end) he was depressed for most of his life, with a struggle and longing for his home country is so clear in this peace, not the most famous, but in my opinion som of his best art! Debussy - La Mer (the ocean) Bach - Goldberg Variations (played by Glenn Gould) Brahms - fantasien op.116 Maybe some modern John Cage - In a landscape James McMillan - Miserere But one perfect for reaction is Jean Sibelius - Violin Concerto in D minor. It’s just absolutely beautiful and deserves some hype! Imagine lakes and mountains, the wind whistling in the trees as snow catches the gust

Op means opus, which means work, like opus 71 is the 71st pice written by the composer, (might be 71st published, I’m not sure, hmmm) There can be some variations in what people think the order should be, so Mozart’s music has K first, like K 21 or whatever cos the person who did the counting and compiling that is most accepted was Kügel (or something like that)

Try some Chopin ballades (his first is most accessible I think. Check out zimermans recordings on KZbin) or his andante spianato er grande polonaise brillante. I’d also definitely recommend you check out Beethoven’s late sonatas (32 and 29 are my favorites). His symphonies and concertos are also wonderful.

@@GIDIREACTS btw just correction on a typo: the second piece should be called “andante spianato *et* grande polonaise brillante.” The 2000 performance by li Yundi on KZbin is very nice. Classical music can be a rabbit hole. I need to stop myself from just recommending giant lists of pieces because it’s so hard to choose my faves. I think the key to enjoying classical music is getting past cultural and modern social preconceptions (positive or negative) of the genre and experience the music *as it is*, listening as if it is pure expression being transmitted between the music/composer/performer (any of the above is fine) to you, and letting it move you freely.

I recommend Rachmaninoff's Symphony No.2. If you only listen to one movement/part it would be the 3rd movement. It is incredibly beautiful. If you want to try another composer, something similar would be Tchaikovsky (would recommend his 6th symphony, specifically the 1st movement). Mahler is another great choice, 2nd symphony and 8th are the most popular. Both the endings are immensely powerful on their own ways
