This Colored Pencil Technique is a GAME CHANGER! Because I love to experiment, I decided to try the solvent blending method for the first time. It is actually the colored pencils solvent from Zest-it, which turns the colored pencils into a watercolor-like consistency, which is a game changer. I loved working with it and will use it for sure in my following colored pencil drawings.

I’ve learned from your video 😁 I used to blend the pencil and then I used the Zest-it with a ugly effect. I am gonna try it your way. Thank you! I’ve also noticed that the polychromos don’t react very well with that medium.

Thank you so much for this review/demo! I'm looking to get a bottle of Zest-it to try and came across your video. I've only really done one big coloured pencil drawing and I definitely underestimated the number of layers it'd take - I think a solvent would've really helped me especially as I was under time pressure as well. You've convinced me to try this, I'm excited to see how it goes!

Did you ever use solvents to blend colored pencil?

I use Gamsol because it’s easier to find then Zest-i, but I hear Mona Lisa paint thinner is comparable to to the Gamsol. I do burnish as well, depending on the look I’m trying to get. This WIP ( imgur.com/a/paqkdx9 ) is more of a painting than colored pencil, but I’m having fun which was my main goal. Using solvent and sanded paper (meant for pastels) allows me to push the pigment around like paint. I’ll still use colored pencil to their advantage by adding more details later. But I’m still pretty new at colored pencil, so for me it’s more about experimenting and trying everything.

I was using Prismacolor pencils, they are wax based.
