I'm so excited to share this weeks video with you all. This community garden was in desperate need of some help - especially since there was no safe access! The sidewalks were completely overgrown and covered - so I spent 16 hours there and got them usable again. I was so so thankful to have met some great people and also be invited to their growing party in a few weeks.
Love the community I live in and so thankful I get to do this work!
You all keep asking so here are the ways you can support the channel! So appreciate it!

Our first home was in a poorer neighborhood. The first spring my husband went out and swept the gutter and street in front of our house. Soon all the neighbors were out doing the same.😊 I was planting my garden spaces and offered neighbors plants I was thinning. Soon our whole block was lifted to a space filled with friendship and beauty! All it takes is someone to start!❤

A company needs to sponsor a wood chipper for you. You can return all the mulch back into the trees. Save you some money. And maybe even provide some mulch for the community gardens at the same time. Come on corporate America. This man needs some equipment.
@AdamBragg

That's a great idea! Also, putting piles of dead wood into the forested area increases the risk of brush fires, so having a wood chipper to mulch the trees would be better on several fronts. Hopefully some manufacturer or seller sees this and steps up.

@@fjklfdasdf You are correct, but as with many things, it is only good in moderation. Typically, these channels show large amounts of dead wood being removed from the cleaned up area. If all that wood is being "relocated" (ie. dumped) into a single location, then the risk of it starting a fire becomes greater than the benefit.

I’m 67 and just happened to find this channel. I’m hooked. Nothing is more satisfying than watching a transformation of something be it a lawn, a home renovation or a before after haircut. I take care of my yard but I have neighbors who are renters who let things go. Every day I have trash to pick up. My nextdoor neighbor has an early teens son and I’ve caught him making fun of me picking up trash. I want to say if you want to live in a dump then go pitch a tent and live there.

This is Metro Detroit. The population has been constant for 50+ years, but the size of the metro has grown (doubled in area? I don't have exact figures). The city in this video is one that has emptied out in favor of outlying areas, losing tax revenue in the process. Pretty typical of Midwestern cities, a fairly constant population migrating outwards, leaving older cities to fend for themselves. Metro Detroit has some older suburbs that have flourished. I happen to live next to one. This one needs help, and I'm glad to see it happening.

In some cities, keeping the sidewalk clear falls on the property owner. It's not clear if the city owns that property, or if it's some 3rd party. It appears that at one time there may have been a home on that lot since there is apparently a driveway apron. If there is a 3rd party owner, it's clear that they've abandoned the property. BUT, in any case, the city should still be responsible at the end of the day, either finding the property owner and compelling them to maintain the property or biting the bullet and at LEAST clear the sidewalk.

Bigger Elephant - if these people consider themselves a "community" and they're all gardeners, then why can't THEY VOLUNTEER their time to spruce up the property. Disgusting that everybody thinks 'they" should do something about it meaning the government, but nobody wants to pay taxes for it. Do you think city workers are manna from heaven? It's high time "communities" do their own work.

I saw a video of a freeway in Tokyo Japan about 25 years ago. Trash up to your waist lined the roads, causing traffic accidents. The City passed an ordinance requiring a $10 million yen fine and comminity setvice. The Japanese took it to heart and adopted this idea nationwide as a social imperative and now, the streets and freeways are spotless. The Japanese are nothing if not a cohesive, cooperative society.

Agree! Wearing a mask or bandana, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, proper heavy shoes, hat, sunscreen, bug spray...one has to be properly "outfitted" to do such physical labor! Seems silly to fully fit young people, but inhaling all that stuff, or getting foreign objects in the eyes, etc is NOT fun! In my youth we had to wear proper gear for our summer outdoor jobs, same in the military. Glad I learned those protective measures when I was younger!

Perhaps on a case by case basis. He's doing heavy work. If he puts on a mask without oxygen he'll pass out. Masks can be very detrimental if we're constantly breathing back in the bacteria our bodies are try to expel. Many times worse than what would have been breathed in and expelled without it.

My brother there is no point in helping others and your neighbourhood if you are hurting yourself in doing so., all that dust you blew up into your lungs will affect you in a negative way. Why not wear a mask whenever you are blowing or contending with dry grass all those particles you inhale stick to your lungs and will definitely hurt you in the long run. I love what you do and why you do it but please take care of yourself . Great job every time.💯👍👍

American soldiers in World War II were amazed that the sidewalks and roads in Germany were always clean or had been cleaned even after air raids or battles. In Germany, people take care of their immediate surroundings, and the municipality also works on public streets, parks and public meadows with professional equipment. You will hardly find anything as run-down here.

I lived in Germany Jan. 1963 - May 1968. I loved how well the Germans kept the streets clean. When I returned Stateside I was shocked that people threw garbage out car windows and didn’t keep their yards clean! States have anti-trash laws now. If one is caught trashing the environment there will be a fine to pay. I live in a clean area, but in the east side of town it’s trashy.
