Stoke is no joke! I was surprised that 12 combustion chamber engine worked, but they did it. Its a radically different design and its good someone is investigating it. Hope they can re-use both stages in commercial service. The Firefly 24 hour challenge was awesome too.

Stoke should make versions that fit on top of SpaceX Falcon and SS "superheavy" boosters. Betting SpaceX will have to end up scrapping the SS can, and go with a Stoke upper stage instead, because SS cannot be turned around in less than weeks; each tile needs personal attention after a flight. There is no reason Stoke's thing couldn't be launched again the next day.

@@user-om2os5yr6i Don't you think Starship should be tested at least once before you pronounce it dead? Let's see it fly and re-enter the atmosphere. I expect some warts will be found related to the heat shield and tile process but there is no way to know prior to the test.

@@frankmcgowan9457 Not to mention Stoke could use lessons learned from Starship testing without having to spend the money themselves. Unfortunately, this video is based on the WRONG ASSUMPTIONS (aka bad research). The FAA has stated yesterday that there won't be a final ok before late October, but that a launch license also depends on the OK by the wildlife organization that might take a bit longer. Anyway...no launch for AT LEAST another month/4 weeks. End of October AT THE EARLIEST. Not "very soon" as this video states.

Stop calling SpaceX Starship launch a mishap. It is a test bed that made it off of the Launch Pad as predicted. The damage to the stand was also predicted. They were in the process of building the new water deluge system and planned on incorporating it on the next launch, which will happen very soon now. The best we can hope for on the next launch is if Starship separates from the booster. That's it. That's the next goal. If it has an unpredictable disassembly then fine, it's a test.

It's no surprise that reusability is becoming more and more common. Space X and to a lesser degree Blue Origin already proved that the technology can be done and that it can save time and money. It's just a matter of time before more and more companies start to appear with new ideas and technologies as this space race really heats up and the commercial surface to orbit industry really matures. Space X is of course way ahead of the pack, but there are many who want to rival them and surpass them and these will appear in time. It is the legacy manufacturers (Boeing, ULA, ESA), who have to get their game together to get into the reusability and fast cadence that will dominate the space industry in the near future.

I have not seen anything about the government getting involved, just a lot of criticism from social media. If I was in his place I would have left the Starlink service on in Crimea, but then I am an old school veteran from the cold war. Putin's puffing about nukelear war does not make me panic into submission. He knows (and for what its worth) Biden said that any regime that uses nukes will be ended. I firmly believe that Putin understands that would be his reality.
@edvard5697
@edvard5697 8 ай бұрын
According to Musk USA sanctions against Russia prohibit Star Link from providing service to Russia. Interestingly, SpaceX apparently does not differentiate between Russia and Russian occupied territory. Perhaps this is due to the State Department's lack of understanding when drafting sanctions. So SpaceX never turned on service to Crimea. If this is true then bad planning by Ukraine. After this PR fiasco Musk says he didn't think he should be making these kinds of Star Link service decisions. So Star Link has sold a number of satellites to the Pentagon so they can provide service at their discretion.
