Machine arrived today, set up was easy and it works great. Thanks for recommending!

Very creative! You could weave a thick ribbon through the back net to visually que a pickleball net height. Then you wouldn't need the Enhance net in front. If you don't have a ribbon, just fold duck tape over on itself and it would achieve the same purpose. This would also be great to put on a screened in porch or back deck.

Great idea to simulate a pickleball net! I may do that on my setup...

Great review Ed! I bought the net and machine separately from Furlihong, but I got the more powerful 681PBH (that you also show). The 681 has the bonus feature of working with a power brick, so you can use it at the courts or cordless indoors without having to buy D cells. The 681 is also more powerful and faster "balls per minute" than the 680. It was a little too powerful for my garage space, so I took it apart and removed one of the washers at the spring base. That made the spring less powerful and it works much better in the garage like this. Can't wait to see your follow on reviews on this and the other Furlihong launchers! Great tips you offer here on how to practice two handed backhand and the poach, nice job!!
@dguistoАй бұрын
I attempted to do this and I'm having a problem figuring out how to reinstall the spring mechanism...when taking it apart, I very slowly separated the base of the machine, and the spring mechanism seemed to almost be a "free-floating" piece inside the machine...I know the general area and positioning for the spring mechanism to be reinstalled, but there seems to be no "logical" way to reconnect it...Not sure if this makes any sense, but any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated! :)
@TonyDLАй бұрын
@@dguisto Sorry to hear this. The spring is not loose or free-floating. It should be bound (compressed) between the bracket where the washers were removed and the hinged arm that launches the pickleballs. You may need to rotate the motor a bit and/or put the machine on it's lowest power setting so that the spring can be more easily reinstalled. I wish I could offer more advice, but without pics or video, it's hard to describe. Think of it like a tinker toy, you just have to examine the pieces and find the correct position. Apologies if I over-simplified the process, I did not have any issues like you're describing.

Hi Tony !! Very very interested in your expert opinion on exactly how much room I will require for the Model 681 which I am waiting on Amazon to receive . That is, how many feet away from the discharge of the 681 do you estimate I will need to stand, to be able to hit drop shots into the net (everything at minimal possible settings ) . Understand that you modified yours, and was hoping I do not have to modify mine. Also , if I modify, about how many feet fewer in space requirements do you think you achieved (assume for practicing drop shots)
@TonyDLАй бұрын
@@jdtd2656 Hello JDTD, I measured my current 681 (modified) setup and the ball launches 15.5 feet before hitting the ground and at a decent lob of around 6 feet high. That is with the power setting at its lowest (1) and both of the height adjustement fingers fully extended. This throws a pretty good lob for drops into the net. I stand about 18 feet away from the launcher. Without the mod, I would guess it was 2-3 feet further. Hope that helps!
@jdtd2656Ай бұрын
@@TonyDL hmmm, I asked Ed himself more or less the same question and his answer was that his was a little less powerful. Maybe I should clarify, if the height fingers are not fully extended , does the ball go further or not as far? I’m definitely only able to stand 15 or 16 feet away at the very max.

Hey Ed. Just a shout out to YOU for great content presented in the most friendly, concise, simple yet chock-full-o-wisdom style. Plus, you have a playful approach to pickleball and your evolving role in teaching about/learning about/supporting others to get better at this wonderful game. (🤫-I will always call it a game, not a sport. To me, a super fun sport IS a game. So, calling it a game reminds me to not work hard to get better but, to PLAY hard to get better. Small yet huge difference, no?). Thank you for your channel, Ed Ju.

Love your videos Ed. Some of the best out there. I was thinking of raising the entire net up to allow you to feed the balls from the top of the shooter. This also would make the front net height the same as the PB net. Can't wait to try this!

I have the same setup but thinking of returning it due to holes in the frame welds at the joints and both net and frame being misaligned. With that being said it is a great tool for my wife who is just starting out in pickleball with no racquet sports background. Just wish it had better build quality. I added blocks to the corners of the legs to bring the front lip of the net to 34 inches as well as tied a rope around the machine to secure it to the net base so it stays in place. Also added a fob controlled outlet remote which makes it so much easier to start and stop the machine.

Oh the block idea is great! I’ll have to try that. That will solve the issue of the chute getting jammed in the feed too.

I honestly thought my pickleball addiction phase would die out a few years ago… I’ve just accepted my fate now 🙃 I think this would work great outdoors. I just don’t really have that option with the heat situation.

I took the iron ring out of the red nylon cloth and followed the small hole in it. I originally planned to use my hands to open the iron ring, but gave up and ended up using iron clamps to increase the weight. What a great way to use Hook and Loop Tape!

The only downside to the front net to me is that if you hit the net, you're left chasing the ball. Without the net you have a much better chance of a long practice session without having to pick up balls.

Hi Ed, I'm enjoying your drill videos and I was looking at the launch machine/net combo (680PBH) and many of the reviews say two things: the launch machine vibrates/moves around a lot and it's weak so it doesn't launch the ball more than about 5' - however, it appears your machine stays put and launches more than 5'. I see a step-up machine (681), but it doesn't come with a net. I believe in a separate video titled "My TOP 3 Drills with Furlihong Net System (681PBH)" you may be using a 681 machine. Can you comment on the launch machine you have and if you bought the net separately?

Sorry for all the comments, but here’s 1 more comment for now : Summary of my current mods - thanks , Ed , Tony, and all other “researchers” and contributors , this applies to both the 680 and 681 since I own both models 1) Velcro for net discharge ring /chute really helps 2) Voice activated switch to turn on and off is a HUGE benefit 3) in future will attach more weighting to base in addition to installing 4 dead batteries 4) “weave” high visibility ribbon at net height 5) work in progress : reduce power of 681 to a much more usable range …read above , I “borrowed” Tony’s genius mod & removed 1 washer … planning to remove 2nd washer (kind of like open heart surgery 😮😮 so I’m letting my patient recover a little longer before I go back in 😅)

@TampaBucGirl22Ай бұрын
@Ed, does the hole for the ball drop in the net allow the ball to drop with ease. We have attempted to set up our net a couple of times and it seems like that pickleballs do not easily go through the hole to the machine. Did you do anything or notice anything with the setup that would resolve this?

This one is sold out. So I bought the next version up (without net). I thought I also could use this in my indoor setup, but that thing LAUNCHES the ball and you have to run it outside. Didn’t really want an outdoor option, but for $130, it actually isn’t bad. I can work on backhand rolls, flicks and returns…and since it launches it pretty hard, it seems more realistic with shots coming at you.
@TonyDL4 ай бұрын
Pro tip! If you disassemble your 681PBH and remove 1 or 2 washers from the spring base, it'll reduce the power so it has less tension and works better indoors. I have mine setup in my garage and yeah it was originally too powerful. Removing the washer did the trick!

@NOT_A_TOP_FAN @TonyDL > I don’t have the space for indoor at the moment and was considering the 681PBH for outdoor/court use.
