When in Seattle, I’d always wander down to First Ave and either stare through the windows or sneak in to the museum of PNW Woodworking (or some similar name.) The pieces were stunning and often fanciful. I’d wonder if I’d ever own something worthy of show. Now I own a piece that would be “best in show. “ in the years to come, I’m happy to share if you want to show Valence. It’s worthy. I love it. The pulls are perfect. The angles crazy and the grain right down my alley. The curves are plain ridiculous. Thanks Nick. This is better than i visualized. Can’t wait to hear those drawers click.

I don’t understand those people (and I’m frankly a bit suspicious of them) who don’t agonize over pulls, handles, and the like. That point where our hands are ‘intended’ to interact with any piece (studio bucket list build or shop storage drawers) are in some ways the hardest part of any project. I love it (this piece) and I’m always genuinely surprised and and caught in anticipation with any of your builds. I think you may be ‘that one guy’ on the yootoobz who fully pulls off pushing himself technically, tactically, and artistically every single time. It nice to see you struggle with your own self ❤🐐

The pulls have some of the best grain on the piece. Who does that? The video doesn’t do their beauty and integration justice. There are so many nice features to love but I find myself rubbing the pulls often - sounds weird, I know.

I have to say that this is the most beautiful piece of furniture that I have ever seen. Incredible design, brilliant joinery, and a perfect name. In addition to chemistry, the valence electrons are the reason for electromotive force, better known as electricity (voltage). Awesome job, simply amazing,

Nick our house is now divided! My wife doesn't like it at all and yet I absolutely love it. Definitely reminds me of the mid 1920s Art Deco era the whole piece is right up my street and the biggest hint to the Art Deco era has to be the leg's for sure!!! I know it's each to their own with styles and taste but as far as I'm concerned when it comes down to styles with wooden furniture honestly I think my wife is blind 😅 🙃 Just don't tell her!!! Nick, this is a stunning example of handmade, bespoke craftsmanship... and woodworker self-masochism. I say this because any time I start throwing in angles other than 0, 90, or 180, my brain goes on strike or something. Also, NSFW finishing shots, indeed! Question for you: I often ebonize wood, especially oak... how did you get the dark black/gray color to hold? I've actually had ebonized components rust before I could apply a finish (I use iron acetate, btw).
@SawyerDesign
@SawyerDesign 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt! Masochism is my middle name lol difficultly=satisfaction. As for ebonization, multiple coats as you work up the grits is essential. It’ll definitely rust if left alone, so I try to get it to seal coat in a day. To bring it from gray to black, shellac is the magic key there.
