I just hope I can hold off this group long enough. But if I fall, they’ll catch up with the others. I watched the attackers come closer to the building. I grabbed my phone; I might as well make this isn’t in vain. I hope they get here quick enough…Come on, answer. “911, what’s your emergency?” “I’m calling from 82 Mill Street, West Riverview. There’s a group of people trying to attack us. I’m not sure how long I can hold them off for.” “How many attackers are there?” “I can see 20. Most of them have automatic weapons.” “How many people do you have with you?” “Around 5.” I could hear something else in the background. “Dispatch to all available units in West Riverview and Downtown, Requesting code 3 response to an armed attack at 82 Mill Street, West Riverview. There are 20 attackers. Most are armed with automatic weapons. Units be advised caller may be armed and is defending a group of 5 people. SWAT and air units are being dispatched. 1-C-01, 1-C-02, Air 1, respond code 3 to the armed attack in West Riverview.” The attackers started shooting at me, I returned fire “Are you still there?” “I’m still here. They’ve started shooting.” “Alright, try to hang in there. There are officers a couple minutes away. You’re going to get out of this.” “There’s no hope for me at this point. I just want them to get here fast enough to save the others.” I could hear the dispatcher communicating with the police units again. “Dispatch to all responding units. Shots fired at the scene. Shots fired at the scene.” I managed to get a few attackers, but they kept on advancing. They moved unflinching until sirens could be heard. Then they rushed towards all, firing directly towards me. I tried to fight them off, but it was too much, and the bullets hit me. “All you ok? Are you still there? Responding units be advised there may be a civilian down at the scene.” I lay there, the world began to fade away. The attackers came inside and then suddenly stopped. I could hear what sounded like car brakes outside and a helicopter accompanied by more sirens approaching. “Atheridge Police Department, drop your weapons! Put the guns down!” The attackers turned to open fire.” “This is your final warning. Drop your weapons. Shots fired! Shots fired! Officer down!” The attackers were distracted. I could hear more vehicles stopping outside. Followed by more gunshots. The attackers took cover inside. Moments later, I saw something get thrown in through the door. Then there was a sudden flash of light and a bang. I could see what looked like figures of people coming inside. “Drop your weapons and put your hands up! Drop the guns and put your hands up!” Soon after, everything went dark, but I could still somehow hear some of what was being said. “All suspects in custody. We need four ambulances here, multiple people shot. One is unconscious.” “10-4 EMS is en route eta 4 minutes.” “EMS is on scene.” “Ambulance 4-03 to dispatch, advise Atheridge Downtown Hospital were en route with a shooting victim eta 8 minutes. Patient is unconscious, pulse is stable. Multiple gunshots to the chest.” “Can’t you hear the siren? Get out of the way!” I fully lost consciousness for some time. When I came to, I was in a hospital bed. I…I survived. How did I survive that? I’m not complaining or anything, but…I’m left speechless. At this point, I’m just wondering why this happened in the city-states of all places. And why was I attacked? Was it the New Freedom Fighters or that group that wants to eliminate people from other dimensions; But it couldn’t have been them. Their leaders were arrested last month. The one thing I do know is that I’m still alive.

Aiden stared at his mug of ale, but he didn't see it anymore. His mind was elsewhere. Everyone's mind was. He saw the battlefield, the last tyrant slaughtered, bleeding into the sand. He turned to see Hal as she stood, covered in blood but smiling. He embraced her and the others, satisfied that everyone was alive. "So much for a monster," Hal teased him with a pat on the back. He smiled in return, proud to no longer have a mask. Then she was gone the next day. Gabriel searched his memory, over and over again. Searching for any hint as to what had happened. He saw the room she'd stayed in. It was pristine, no sign of her even being there except for a note. "My friends and my kin, the time has come for me to travel a road alone, but I hope we meet again. Goodbye, dearest of brothers at arms." Ashley held her cup carefully and scoured her memory for any signs of why Hal left. Her mind brought her to a campsite discussion they'd had. Hal stared kindly at Rius and Gabriel through the fire. "They think I'm running from my past," she had laughed quietly. "If they managed to find anything, they'd realize I'm not running away from something." "Then where are you running?" She'd turned to her happily, like a mother excited for her first child. "My future." Gil kept his mug close. He lost another friend, but he trusted her. She'd return one day, he was sure of it. Rius sat away from the group and downed glass after glass of rice wine. He couldn't believe that she was gone. No one just disappears. "I'm Faceless, my friend," she'd told him that night. "I have to be if I want to make it." What the hell was that supposed to- "Can I help you?" Rius looked up to see a young woman with burgundy hair and cinnamon eyes looking down at him, concerned. It felt familiar, but he couldn't pinpoint why. "I just need a mug of this stuff," he grunted and slammed his glass onto the table. The woman gave him a sympathetic look. "There's a reason we don't do that. Wait a second." She peered at him. "You're Rius, right?" He looked at her, confused. "You know my name?" She smiled. "Glyn warned me you'd come by at some point," she explained. The woman reached under the table and offered him a carefully folded letter. "She left this for you."

Terran stood in shock, the orange glow of the fire before him illuminating his face in the darkness of the night. How could this have happened? Who would do such a thing? Where was everyone? All questions that he didn't have time to consider, he had to save Aluria. Without hesitation, he threw to the ground, his satchel of vegetables and berries he had collected from the forest, and ran towards the burning house. He hoped that she had gotten out before the fire started, but he wasn't willing to risk her life on a hope. He needed to be sure that she was safe. Bracing himself, he ran shoulder first into the front door, destroying the charred wood. The smoke stung his eyes and stuck in his throat, making it hard to see and harder to breath. The heat from the fire pricked at his skin as it tried to burn him. He had to find Aluria quickly and get out of there. He scanned the room, but he couldn't see anything. He tried calling her name, "Aluria, where are you"? He listened for a response, but all he heard was the roar of the fire and the crackling of the burning wood and elven decor. Panic set in as Terran began to search desperately. He had to find her, he couldn't lose her, not after he finally admitted to himself his true feelings about her. He paused, 'She must not be here, she must have escaped', he concluded, turning back towards the door. He couldn't stay here much longer, his lungs felt like they would explode if he didn't breathe fresh air soon. Just as he began to walk towards the door, he stopped. What did he just hear? A voice? Was Aluria in here after all? He turned towards the voice and saw Aluria's mother. "Alva! Don't worry, I'll get you out of here". "Not me" she said with a raspy voice. "Aluria" she said weakly, pointing towards a pile of fallen rubble. A wave of dread and terror set over him as he feared the worst. Regardless of what he knew he may find, he ran over to the rubble, lifting wooden beams and kicking away hot metal debris. At the bottom of the mess, was the still form of Aluria. He grabbed her shoulders and lifted her head off the ground. Her skin was hot to the touch and her right leg and right arm were obviously broken, but her left arm was completely gone. Her side had been pierced by a broken piece of the ornate elven chandelier that once hung magnificently from the ceiling. The tips of her pointed ears were burnt and had begun to blister. He nearly threw up in shock at what he saw and from all of the smoke clouding his mind. He had to focus on the matter at hand though, he had to get her out. He removed the metal sticking out through her side, and winced as he burned his hand. He knew that he had to endure though. He thought it better to carry her out then to try to wake her. Carefully, but quickly, he picked her up and cradled her in his arms. He adjusted it so that her broken arm was supported, but all he could do for the leg was let it dangle as he carried her. As he passed the place where Alva was laying, he said to her, "don't worry Mrs. Alva, I'll be right back for you". She nodded slightly, and Terran turned to exit the burning house. Outside, a crowd of Elves were running, all in the same direction, away from the town where even more fires had broken out. Terran"! A male voice called from the crowd. He looked over to see Darrian, Aluria's father, running towards the house. "Are Aluria and Alva alright"? He asked frantically. "Aluria's alive, but Mrs. Alva is still inside", he said, on the verge of breaking down. Darrian looked at his house, panic etched on his face. "Terran, listen to me very closely" he said sternly, and Terran was immediately focused on him. "I need you to take Aluria and get out of town immediately". "Wait, why"? He asked. "Don't ask questions, a group of humans are running through the town on horseback, setting fire to houses and killing any elf that they see. I need you to get Aluria to safety, now" Darrian ordered. As Darrian ran into the burning house, Terran fled in the direction of the woods, hoping that the attacking humans wouldn't follow. As he ran, he recalled an elvish safe room under a slightly different looking tree in the forest, and he decided that he'd be safer there then anywhere else. He continued running, trying not to jostle the mortally wounded elf in his arms too much. How could the humans have done this? His own race, committing such a heinous act, how could they? How dare they! As he reached the tree, he walked into what appeared to be solid ground, but was actually a wood elven concealment barrier. A small number of elves had had the same idea as him, and ran to the safe room before him. He scanned the small cluster of elves until he found who he hoped was there. He walked up to Aria, Aluria's younger sister, and as she saw him approach, she jumped up and ran over to him. "Terran, Aluria, I'm so glad you two are-" she trailed off as she saw the somber and yet furious expression on his face. She looked at Aluria who was laying in his arms and she saw the horrifying state that she was in. Her face paled. "Aluria"? She said with a soft and shaking voice. "Aluria, are you okay"? This only furthered his rage towards the humans who has attacked. They caused so much pain, so much death, so much sorrow, and Terran would not forgive them for this. He walked over to a wall and gently set Aluria down against it. She stirred slightly, and opened one of her eyes. With a gut Erin hung feeling, he realized that one of her eyes had been gouged out by a shard of broken glass. His rage boiled up again, he wouldn't let this go unpunished. "Terran" Aluria said. Tears streamed down the side of her face with her remaining eye, "please, don't get yourself hurt" she whispered, hoarsely. The smoke must've taken its toll on her throat. "I don't plan on it" he said honestly. She smiled softly, "I'm disfigured now aren't I? will you still want to marry me"? She asked sweetly. "Always, I love you Aluria". She smiled again, and another tear slipped down her cheek, "Thank you Terran, I love you too." And with that, she lapsed back into unconsciousness. Another flare of pure and unbridled fury rose up in his chest. Those humans were the cause of this, they caused Aluria to be so severely wounded, and even now he wasn't sure that she would make it. A figure slowly approached from behind him, and he stood and stepped out of the way for the town healer, Selve. After a close inspection, he immediately began his work. "It's a good thing that you arrived when you did, another few minutes and she would've been beyond my help" he said. "So you can save her?" Terran asked hopefully. "I can close her wounds and mend her bones, but she'll forever be scarred, and she'll never get her arm or her eye back, regrowing such things is impossible". He had expected as much, but it still hurt to hear. Her life would never be the same, and it was all because of these violent and belligerent humans that he now loathed with his entire being. Just then, the barrier chimed slightly and pulsed, someone was coming in. He was relieved to see Darrian enter, carrying an alive and awake Alva. Terran was overjoyed that they were both alive and well, but something made him uneasy. The stiff way that Darrian was walking, the limp, the pained expression on his face, and the worry written all over Alva's face. And as he passed Terran, he gasped as he laid eyes on the three human crafted arrows protruding from his back. He set Alva down on the ground and he himself collapsed onto his side, bleeding profusely. The healer who was working on Aluria glanced over at Darrian and Alva with a nervous look. "Gellan, Nellia, you handle them. And hurry, Darrian is fading fast" he said urgently. They responded immediately, rushing over to tend to Darrian and to check Alva. Seeing this scene, his family in such a state, his fiancé, his mother and father in law, all severely wounded and on the verge of death, Aria, whom he considered his own sister, crying bitter tears of sorrow and fear. It broke him, and he snapped. He went over to one of the walls and carefully removed a secret panel, revealing a whole wall of weapons. Swords, shields, knives, bows, and other weapons of all varieties. He picked the first weapon he saw, an Eranaloin. A high elven sword like blade designed for elegance and swift, smooth slashes. He took the weapon and bolted out through the barrier, ignoring Aria calling his name. He was furious, and he was not about to let those humans get away with their vile actions. Blade in hand, he began his run back towards the elven town. When he arrived, the town had been razed. Many houses had collapsed from the flames that had engulfed them, including Aluria's and his own. He reminisced of his life in that house. His parents had lived there with him when he was a lot younger. He remembered how empty it felt when they died, and how happy he was when Aluria accepted his proclamation of love in that house. He was sad to see it in such a sorry state, but now wasn't the time to be reminiscing, he had work to do. As he strode down the street, he saw the corpses of dead elves everywhere. It made him sick that there existed people who could commit atrocities like this with a clear conscience, but that's why he was here right now. As he approached the center of the town, he saw them, 6 men sitting on horseback, holding torches in one hand and swords in the other. They looked like Nalkian soldiers, he noted. When they saw Terran approaching, one of them steered their horse towards him and raised his sword, as if to strike him, but he stopped, noticing that his ears were rounded. "Your human?" The man asked, seeming startled. "Yeah" Terran replied calmly. He took a deep breath and prepared himself for what he needed to say next. He lit on a sickening smirk and said, "I just took care of a few stragglers that you let escape. Careless mistake if you ask me". They seemed to relax a little bit, believing that he was hunting the elves as well, but still seemed suspicious. Besides, he had a different prey in mind for tonight. One of the men in the back climbed off of his horse as he had hoped, and addressed Terran. "I'm the leader of this detachment, Just who are you, and why are you here without orders from captain Velhad?" He asked, trying to appear intimidating. Terran was not intimidated, he was genuinely amused now. "So you're the leader of this massacre, and this 'Captain Velhad' is the orchestrator?" He asked for confirmation. "That's what I said, don't change the subject. I asked you who you were" the leader said gruffly. "Ah, yes of course, my apologies sir" he apologized respectfully, making himself sick. But this was it, this was the moment that he wanted to savor, the time of their deaths. Genuinely smiling now, he said, "the elves called me a name that humans will come to fear the mention of" he lied. "They called me, Leynara Falevar", he said, recalling his tutoring in the elvish language. "What's there to fear about some elvish gibberish?" A man in the back asked with a laugh. "Oh, I suppose you're all too dense to understand it, huh? Well, allow me to translate, in elvish, 'Leynara Falevar' means Manhunter", and with that, he thrust his blade through the stomach of the leader. The other soldiers reacted immediately, charging Terran on their horses. Oddly though, they weren't moving very fast. It was although time was slowed, and the world was painted in a golden sheen. Slowly, a wispy golden trail appeared and connected to all of the soldiers. And the strangest thing about all of this, was that he knew what the wisp was meant for. He waited for the first attacker to reach him, and easily dodged his slowed attack. Then, he put his Eranaloin's tip on the edge of the golden wisp. His blade began following the path laid out for it. Each strike was vital, and the silky line laid out the place he needed to strike. The first hit was a clean stab through the first man's liver, he spun around, pulling his blade out of the first soldier and immediately following with an upward slash under the second soldiers armor, and through his ribs, slicing all the way through, cutting him in half. He followed the gold path with his sword, and the soldiers fell like flies. Within no time at all, all of the five remaining soldiers were dead. He turned back to the leader, who was still alive and trying to crawl away. He stepped it his way, glaring intensely at him. "Please, spare me" the leader begged. Terran laughed, "why should I? Did you spare any of these people?" He asked, gesturing around the corpse littered courtyard. "You're a maniac, are you even Human?" The leader asked, looking directly at Terrans face. "Of course you aren't, no human has golden eyes like yours, they're unnatural, what even are you, how did you kill them all so easily?" he asked with a mad glint in his eyes. Terran didn't know what "Golden eyes" he was rambling about, but he decided to use it for one last intimidation before he killed him. He crouched and whispered into the man's ear, "It must be some kind of... hunters intuition". Terran stood, raising his blade, and the leader looked up in terror just in time to watch the sword fall, severing his head from his body.
