Gordon, nobody gets out an LA jail in 2 hours. Once you are in they send you to a few different facilities even if your bail is paid. back in the '90's they let out a dangerous guy thinking he was somebody else so they changed how they do things. You should absolutely file charges and let it go through the system. At the very least there will be a record and he can get whatever help he needs.
