Dexter drives like you would expect from a german trackmania player. He can be very consistent but in a cup of the day format he just full risks like granady, massa, or lars would. Marius is the only german player who actually does safe lines in cuppa

It's nice to see how map-makers like to have these little coded messages in their own levels. Like, every turn has a different colored arrow-greens are simple turns, yellows are more like tight Nascar turns, and red are almost always sure drifts. Once you figure these little things out, you're more likely to succeed as long as you have good timing and mechanical skill.

I'm sure your video statistics proves out your editing choices, but I must say I'm a bit sad that you have started cutting down the quali to only the completed runs with improvements. Most COTD videos I watch for the quali and then skip toward the end of the rounds as I really enjoy watching the learning and improvement process, as well as the tension that comes when you have to actually push yourself towards the end of the competition. If there is anything that I would personally prefer to see cut, its the first 10 rounds where everyone drives safe. But even though I wished things were cut together differently, I do really enjoy watching these videos and rarely miss an upload. Thanks for all the hard work you guys put into making these COTD videos happen. Cheers from Alaska!

I am watching those edited Vids exactly like you - i love the improvement on qualies. I would cut out from qualies only those runs where there are crashes becaouse of bad luck or where he is playing safe - maybe 2 or 3 runs total. Than i am going to the last rounds he struggles to stay in - first few runs are really boring coz everyboy plays safe. Than i watch semi finals and finals. Maybe there are many styles of watching and we all need different things but I really agree with you on that one :)

Checkpoint splits only update every time you pass a cp, so I assume Lars crashed the before cp1 and then never passed a cp otherwise his splits would update and show the real time he was behind

Racing =/= speedrunning. I saw a chat member say "IMO idk if trackmania counts as speedrunning" and someone replied "then neither does Mario Kart" and someone else said "Then what is it?" and I think the answer is just that it's a racing game. Racing games are games where you race against other people to get the best times on tracks, or positions in a race as a primary purpose. Speedrunners take games that otherwise do not have any inherent need to be done fast and play them faster. Seeing how fast you can beat a game that has no inherent need to be played fast is giving the game a secondary purpose to the speed, whereas in any racing game going fast and seeing how quickly you can finish a track are already inherent primary parts of the game, which would otherwise not be playable/competitive without them. I also think it helps to show more communities if we separate it into racing and speedrunning. All the people in both categories are already lumped into speedrunning right now which makes the meaning of the pool more dilute as well as the ability to highlight anyone from it.

So by your logic Neon White not a speedrun game, which it most certainly is. Speedrunning doesn’t require the game to not be about speed, racing against others/yourself for best times on tracks (games/categories) is exactly what a speedrun is.

@@poiri "Speedrunning" implies the existence of other types of "runs". Rally drivers aren't "track speedrunners", they are racers. Neon White can be finished without getting a WR, a casual run is absolutely possible.

I've speedrun a few games and I consider TM to be a speedrunning game, not JUST because it's a racing game with the goal of being fast, but because it's a game specifically about doing solo runs & placing times on a leaderboard. We look at posted times instead of position in a specific race (except for certain modes ofc) and our inputs are not impacted in any way by the decisions of other cars. A (multiplayer) mario kart race wouldn't be a speedrun in my eyes because you are looking to "finish the race before these opponents" rather than "complete the fastest time on the level", but even more importantly, powerups and player collision take away the 'solo perfectionist' energy that a speedrun typically has. TM on the other hand is literally just a game about speedruns. cotd and other competitive formats aren't quite the same but they're still closer because of the lack of collision and other ways to influence opponents in a given race. Games which center & celebrate speedrunning are still speedrun games - if you think they aren't, you might have made some assumptions about what a speedrun is at some point that might be worth unpacking

@@half.step. Trackmania is a racing game because you race other people. Mario Kart has the same time trial modes and they are just as heavily hunted, if not more, since Mario Kart is such a popular series. MK8 is still a top seller every week on switch. Trackmania also has the modes where you race against people, like cup of the day. I should have added that another aspect that makes it NOT a speedrunning game is that you race people as a main part of the gameplay. In speedrunning racing people is not generally part of the pain gameplay, and in a non racing game the "racing" portion of it that might be inherent to the game is only a secondary purpose to the main game

Just in case you didnt know in track mania it is possible to drive right into the finish line, it wouldn't count. Wirtual has to drive through the entire course otherwise he would be mocked relentlessly by chat for taking such an easy shortcut because he wouldn't take the chance of choking at some point, also known as "Pulling a Wirtual."

I had fun on this map - didn't catch the cup and only got a silver, but still - the one part I didn't like was that transition down to grass just after CP4. It looks cool to watch, but it always shook my concentration and I lost a lot of time trying to reorient myself.

I have a theory for the loop I bet that keeping speed has to do with preventing collisions with the loop. One way to do that might be to go in at an angle and steer into it so that your wheels hit instead of your car, allowing you to make it through with way more speed that or it's down to parameters that humans can't control very well
