I used to be a server too and one thing I hated the most is when customers say they’re “allergic” to something when they just don’t like something

I worked at a popular well known place in NYC that is very famous for giving away a lot of free food to customers complaining just so they can get good reviews. We had one karen who refused to talk to anyone who wasn't a manager cause us service employees would actually try to stop guests from abusing this policy whereas the managers were more likely to lose their jobs if they tried to stop the abuse. Her schtick was that she was allergic to almost everything but needed A LOT of protein with her meal and not enough veggies and starches. Ironically protiens that had her allergies in their marinade cause for some reason they were ok.

If this happens to anyone I hope a fellow server would be kind enough to help. I know I would help as much as I can because I know I have tables too. I won't let them monopolize my time because these bills keep coming. There's always little polite things to say when you have to walk away. You know these ppl are not leaving a tip. So, yeah salvage what you can from your other tables. This is advice for new servers because I have been through this. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I'm glad you had a manager with you.

After that man made his dumb comment of requesting your name so he wouldn't have to get you as a server again I would have asked him, "What's your name? Good. Then I won't have to deal with you when you come back." The food industry can be such a stressful and thankless job sometimes.

Im glad you see he was looking for a fight and looking for free food. In my head I would of been like good. I'm glad I don't ever have to serve but you cried not because he said that because you were still holding up as he left he already had 80 daggers in you and seen you were still standing. He was like "FINISH HER!" He would not leave that restaurant without taking your spirit. The older I get I learn to ignore these ppl and act stupid because when you act stupid they move on. They're like this person is not bright enough to hurt.

Jacy, Hey. I felt your pain. Been a server for a long time and I've been in situations that were similar. Been so far in the weeds on a busy night then get a table like that. A party like that needs the reality check provided by the Tune Inn of Capitol Hill in DC, home of the meanest waitresses in the East. At least, that was their reputation; they were fine with me and, as is the custom for the Baltimore-Washington region, called me “darling”.. I generally avoid going out unless I have money for a tip, so that might be why I did not see their nasty side.
@alexis-llemay80643 жыл бұрын
Some people, like your customer, are beyond stupid (and saving). It's as if their brains can't fire properly when it comes to having good judgment. But what is most shocking to me is that people like those often occupy CEO, doctor, psychiatrist and other high ranking positions. So, to answer people who ask on Quora if you need to be intelligent to be successful, absolutely not. Just learn to do what works for others and keep doing it without thinking ''out of the box''.

It's a shame for sure, some people definitely just enjoy the power trip they get, and perhaps dont know how to be good leaders. I agree!

That customer ordering the omelette with a mocha is literally a perfect example of the twitter meme I saw about how you can tell someone has a low IQ by how they cannot understand hypotheticals, recursion and I like to add in context. Recursion: She could not understand how she butchered the house omelette into a normal omelette, and could not understand how she turned her cappuccino into a latte simply by removing the foam then turned it into a mocha. Context: She could not understand that onion could not be removed B/C of the possibility that it is pre-made. Customers like her are disgustingly common and I struggle to not roll my eyes and facepalm talking to them. Tables like them are the reason why some servers and managers just say "the kitchen is full of orders" to buy time between harassment. Edit: This man had the audacity to say everyone's food was cold and tasted nasty like he had everyone's food in his belly. Literally get outta town sir. Pack your whole bag and leave.

@jeffw12672 жыл бұрын
Tips are beneficial because they reward the good servers, unless it's a restaurant where tips are pooled. I saw a news report today in which servers were picketing for $15/hr PLUS tips. That is taking it too far. A $2.20/hr base is too low, however. Just reward good servers with bigger tips. I throw in an extra $10 if I'm called "sir", but young people aren't taught to speak that way anymore so it doesn't happen too much.
