I know everyone should expect to pitch in the make the weekend special for the bride, just wish it was communicated a bit better beforehand! What are your thoughts?
@Magicallybeautifully3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. That makes my blood boil. $600/$700 is ridiculous. Especially to charge that much for some who was DD'ing and taking care of everyone.

I find it ridiculous to give someone a "gift basket" only to charge for it afterwards 😬 The main problem here was that it was not communicated beforehand....it's ridiculous and tone deaf for someone to charge $600 for a celebration without letting the other person know.

Wait a minute….she charged you for the shit SHE “gifted” you? Is this how bachelorette parties work?

No, this isn’t how it usually works for American weddings at least. It’s so dumb she made them pay for that It literally makes no sense because if they wanted them they could go buy the stuff on their own since she’s charging them for it anyways.

First of all if all the girls had to equally pay for the costs for the party then why the maid of honor didn’t pay for your parking fee and gas?? Secondly I feel like they are just using you to split the bill 10 ways.. Kinds reminds me I used to hang out with this group of friends that everytime we go out, they order bottles of expensive wine and expensive steak/seafood and I’m a vegetarian and not an alcohol drinker and they always expect me to split the bill evenly with them.. eventually I stopped hanging out with them 🙁so I know exactly how you feel

i feel like bachelorette parties would be much more enjoyable if they weren't so expensive. not because it isn't nice to have a lavish day/few days to celebrate the bride, but because everyone (especially those who aren't a part of the wedding party) don't really get to be a part of deciding how much they can spend on the event. besides, i feel like the bride should be the one to provide for the party, but that may be controversial 😬
@JacyErin3 жыл бұрын
Not controversial, as it sounds like every bach party is different. Its just tough when you commit, then find out how much you're expected to pitch it, and it's out of budget. But lesson learned!

Man that's awful you had to pay for all of that! I was a bridesmaid in my friends wedding and she paid for everything. She paid for our bridesmaid dresses and our retreat and everything. Her and her partner dont have a lot of money but they figured that they wanted everyone they cared about there and so they made it work! Her partner paid for the suits for the groomsmen as well. Was pretty cool and they are both generous people. So I guess it depends on the people but not all bachelorette parties are like what you experienced! I'm sorry you had to spend all that $ especially for someone you werent that close to!

Please bring your favorite dish (it's a potluck) and alcohol if you plan on imbibing. Sheesh!

I think I would have given the maid of honor $100 tops and explained my situation. If I were would you, I would have said that I just don’t have $600 to give as one, my budget isn’t cut out for that, I’m just not in that income bracket, I wasn’t given any prior knowledge of expenses due on my part prior to the event, I paid out for my own costs to transport people and be essentially an RA to them. I always have felt that expensive weddings and bachelorette parties are a sham, and this is why. I’m glad you were able to have fun at the wedding, that that they gave you the discount that you deserved and that there were no hard feelings Jacy!

I’m not a fan of going broke over a bachelorette weekend especially if there a thousand bridesmaids. It’s just so EXTRA! Then again I plan on having 3 bridesmaids max. My email to the MOH would of gone something like this….”I need you to deduct day #1, parking for the club, and the gift”…. with the parking receipts attached

I've never ever been to a bachelorette party and rarely get invited to weddings probably because I don't drink it all LOL also, because I don't really have a lot of female friends but it's so fun to hear how it is for others. Terrible do, I do know and remember the club scene though and those girls really get drunk out there. I always go to clubs cuz I love DJs and remix seeing and I always like to hear what they're going to play and dance to it but the drug stuff is super annoying LOL so sad that you had to spend all that money and a gift basket should be a gift. That was really lame on that one. Big hugs!

I kinda had a similar situation but with a friend's bday party. She wanted to get some rooms at a hotel and everyone paid their portion prior to her booking. I ended up not being able to go last minute, and the girl wouldn't give me my money back since she used it to book the room. She then got someone else to take my place, so I asked that person to pay me back, because if they didn't, then that means they're staying at the hotel for free because of I already paid for it. The person was fighting me on it, never paid me, and basically I paid for a stranger's room. I'm no longer friends with some of those people in that group.

Why did you agree in the first place? A gift you pay for according to your budget.
@caligirl89042 жыл бұрын
Maid of honor was wrong for charging the gift baskets to the non bridesmaids party. That should be split among all the bridesmaids. they shouldn’t charge the first day activities that you weren’t there to participate in. they should offer to pay for the parking fee since you took your car. The only things that should be split are the hotel, food and only if ur doing some group activities. But in general bachelorettes party are expensive! My group did paid 500 each for hotel and group activities. But for the gifts, I bought them myself for the girls. It’s for appreciation from me to them for coming to my bachelorette.

I'm a little confused. If you paid $300 less and 8 people absorbed that cost, it'll be $37.50 more per person. My ex best friend who I didn't see or speak to for more than 5 years invited me to be her bridesmaid out of the blue. Her wedding was to be in another city. I would need to take time off work, pay for the airfare, accommodation, the bridesmaid dress, the cost of the bachelorette party and the wedding gift which would be cash. I kindly declined. Haven't heard from her for 2 years. I think brides need to be realistic. I'm willing to pay 1k for a close friend (my wedding gift for my bestie was $500), however, 3k for a friend I'm no longer close with is insane. enjoy your story telling, it's 4am in Sydney :P

You clearly got scammed by a bunch of “takers”. The refusal to help defray the cost of your separate transportation (drive) to San Diego, and of your being the designated driver/chaperone, proved their terminal selfishness. One has to wonder if this is why the other girl bowed out.

Nah you totally should've fought the charge on not paying for both nights, that would've been absurd. I will say though, the totals you were paying aren't that bad. Most bachelor parties I go to we're spending 1500-2000 a person, I think one of them was nearly $3,000 all in. I'm the best man at an upcoming wedding and I already know at the bachelor party I'm going to have to drop $15-20k just to cover everything upfront so we can split it later. Kinda dumb, but just comes with the territory I guess.
