A high level statue of a fallen angel, created by sacrificing a warrior inside it during creation, then powered by crucifying someone on the outside of it and taking their soul. i like the idea of a gray dragons favorite trophy in its lair being a tree or a big rock or something like that. as its a reminder of the time it won so horrifically, so overwhelmingly, that there was nothing from its opponent(s) left to take, so it just grabbed whatever was nearest and flew off

Story idea: An ancient Grey Dragon, tired of seeking out prey for itself, has entered the Space Between and enslaved the Bagmen that inhabit the plane. Now, the Bagmen serve as almost Game Wardens, bringing fresh prey into the Space Between for their draconic master to hunt at it's leisure. Today, the Bagmen have chosen the party as their masters next hunt.

One of my favorite tricks I played on my players was when they encountered a fang dragon wyrm. He didn't consider them a threat or a target to be hunted, so he decided to mess with them a bit. In exchange for a boon, he challenged them to survive his breath. The players were unfamiliar with grey dragons, so they were hesitant but eventually decided to accept the challenge. The dragon then belched on them and laughed before giving them a few of his shed scales for amusing him.

Yea i noticed that too, weird that he didn't bring it up in the vid at all. The elongated ears, iconic fangs, life drain, and blood vomit that he included in the lair actions all give a pretty heavy imagery. Would be interesting if their lairs were like large-scale mirrored mazes and they wouldn't show up in the mirrors bc vampire so they would be invisible until they're right on the party and then rush back in to the maze. Guerilla hunting tactics, slowly bleed the prey dry until they're very weak then wreak havoc.

I do like the idea of a dragon not having a breath weapon, but as I was watching this an idea came to mind that says "What if breath weapon byt inversed?" So the bite already drains hit points right? What if instead of exhaling some magical energy like fire or acid or lightning, the gray dragon turns that drain effect into a suction force. A cone of necrotic damage that is basically just the it siphoning the life force of the creatures in front of it as it inhales. Plus the idea of describing a dragon roaring backwards as it does its breath weapon is really fun and sounds like it would be fun to do the noise for as well.

Just an idea, but considering how much gray dragons enjoy their hunting, but as they get older and more experienced they have a harder time finding worthy prey, I can imagine older gray dragons taking on a humanoid form that lacks their powerful draconic advantages and constantly learning to use all sorts of new weapons and combat styles just to make their hunts more challenging.

Grey dragon disguised as a merchant sells all the insanely powerful magic items he’s gotten from those he’s killed in an attempt to grow the strength of adventures enough to make them worthy opponents. After the party beats the big bad he decides they are strong enough, super high level post campaign boss fight ensues.

For treasure in the dragon's hoard, I would suggest trophies from its hunts, Predator-style. I like the idea of trinkets that remind it of its hunts, but I'd go even more explicitly trophies: Horns and claws and stingers, maybe even entire heads, whatever the monster was iconic for, from some of its favorite prey over the years, maybe even mounted if its particularly refined. Imagine walking into a dragon lair and finding another dragon's head mounted on the wall, alongside a purple worm stinger, displacer beast tentacles and a rack of unicorn horns.

Combined with invisibility and the vocal mimic... While the party is looking at the trophies, they hear a throaty whisper "turn around" followed by laughter. And the survivors, if they get back to town and are able to bury their friends, "want some candy". If you're going to go Predator, go with it.

I really love the idea of a party unknowingly stumbling upon a Grey Dragon lair. On a large and desolate hilltop, amongst the barren rocks and gravel you see countless piles of skeletal remains. Many of which are humanoid, some of which are exotic creatures that you have never seen with their flesh intact. Among the countless bones you find a stone alcove where a single humanoid skeleton is propped up with much more respect and consideration than the rest. At the skeleton’s feet is a black sword, seemingly made of a strange obsidian like substance. Exotic runes are etched onto blade and hilt of the sword, with the pommel being an absurdly large pearl. You decide to take the blade, knowing such a strange and exotic sword would be worth a handsome sum of gold. Three weeks into your travel towards town, you cannot shake the feeling of being watched. On occasion, when you camp for the night, you hear the faint flapping of wings in the distance. One morning you wake up to what seems to be an earthquake. You emerge from your tent, a myriad of human corpses strewn on the ground. Above them sits a regal dragon of stony complexion, his grinning mug supporting a sea of sword like teeth. “Finally!” The dragon’s voice booms across the countryside, “I finally found those responsible for taking my most prized trophy. The others claimed innocence, and they made for good snacks, but your lot will make a wonderful addition to my trove.”

I like the idea of the sword being left as deliberate bait, the idea being that anyone who saw that place would recognize it as a dragon's lair and anyone who would steal from it was either a foolhardy idiot or someone brave and strong enough to feel like they could handle the dragon when it comes looking for its treasure.

I had an Young Grey Dragon named Tonash in my 5e game, he was an foolhardy but dangerous dragon that was captured before the party encountered him, he was in a giant box chained up, the party got too curious and unleashed him and he throttled the party, got bored with the fight and then charged off to wreak havok in the city until a ancient Red Dragon rolled up and sent him running with his singed tail tucked between his legs (the red dragon was a tyrant the government paid tributes too for “protection” and this was the closest she ever came to protecting the city)

I immediately thought of a plot idea when you began talking about them being willing to make beneficial deals: The party gets a "friendly" Bard NPC who "just wants to record their legend" as they grow and overcome challenges. In truth, this bard serves a Grey dragon and raises bands of adventurers to states where they would make for a worthy challenge for the dragon. Depending on the party and how you play it, maybe the NPC outright tells them that's what they're doing and provides aid like a powerful patron or they keep it secret until the fight is coming.

Party confronts the Bard, or the Bard lets the facade fall telling them the Grey dragons either coming for them, or waiting for them in its lair so many options for story xD

Lore idea: Gray Dragons, also known as Stone Dragons, straddle the divide between chromatic and metallic dragons, acting as neutral enforcers of the few rules draconic society imposes. Any dragon that defies an edict of Bahamut or Tiamat may find themselves the subject of a Gray Dragon's Grand Hunt. Of those, Dragons that extend their life through unnatural means, (denying their divine parent the power of their soul) are a Gray Dragon's favorite prey. As they are resistant to many of the Gray's strengths, they pose the exact sort of challenge Elder Gray's long for.

This is my favorite "lost dragon" of editions past. I've actually used them in a campaign: the idea being that Tiamat started "converting" the grey dragons by giving them a acidic breath weapon, but in return, they must go on and kill the fang dragons that refused her gift. So the party found this ancient grey dragon that was searching for a mate while constantly having to take down their converted brethren, wrecking havoc where it passed.

Shit I remember my DM using this in our 3.5 game. Basically the way my DM has their setting established is that "dungeons" are conscious entities that channel magical forces to create challenges inside of them- the dungeon is defeated by destroying the core inside of it. We were in a "dragon" dungeon and the DM described how there was a fang dragon guarding the core. We rolled our history checks and basically came to the description Dungeon Dad had- we all so terrified of it that we didn't even bother fighting it- we didn't even get a look at it! (Our DM does NOT shy away from ability damage and bleeding, so we knew he wasn't fucking around.) We had an item that allowed us to teleport it somewhere else, and we decided to throw it into the lair of a dragon god we had met before that we actually made a deal with. The core was horrified at what we did, and begged not to be destroyed as we walked up to it unopposed- we did anyway because it was causing problems. Dragons in this setting do not like each other. Thankfully it didn't come back up by the time the game ended..

Early encounter: party does something to tweak the nose of a big bad. Big bad sends a grey dragon. Grey dragon kicks party around, realizes party isn’t worth their time, goes back to big bad pissed off.

Personally I would make the 4e version as a Mad Wizard trying to recreate a Gray dragon under there control but only knowing that it was "Black Dragon + Demonic energy" and getting it not quite right. You could have a story where the party is hired by a True Gray dragon to help kill this false gray dragon because it is immune to the true dragons attacks and abilities for some reason, so the part to take them down but the True gray could help teach them tactics to take it down. (Getting a temporary mentor that could help you gain a permanent +1 to survival & tracking checks or the like if you RP it right.)

The idea for the Gray Dragon combat feels somewhat familiar to Nergigante, an elder dragon species from Monster Hunter World, that specialize in hunting other elder dragons. It fight with pure brute strength, with claws, tail, and fangs, it also has an ability to shoots spikes at the enemy. As for their habit of enjoying the thrill of a hunt, and collecting trophy from every hunt/kill, it is similar to what a Yautja (Predator) will likely do after each hunt. Maybe a Gray Dragon society from different plane, and the young ones enter the prime material plane for training.

I LOVE this, a perfect addition to my terrifying stat blocks. Totally agree with them not having breath weapons, my reasoning is that they have a void-esque emptiness inside them in the place of other’s breaths, allowing for their soul-draining abilities and petrification. Not sure exactly where I heard this, but my impression was Tiamat created Grey Dragons as a response to the Fang Dragons tainted by the abyss. Not to be outdone, she created them to hunt all the Fangs down and rid them off the face of the planes. Thus, super hunt drives. In my setting I have them hunting down other dragons Tiamat sees as impure (along with challenging foes) such as the Lernea’s three-headed boys you covered. Desolate steps filled with the petrified corpses of majestic three headed dragons? Tantalising.

A fang dragon would be perfect as a serial-killing dragon. It's extremely rare for sk's to not want to be close to their kills, and not having/not using a breathe weapon really fits hat bill.

The KZbinr Mr. Rhexx actually came up with a pretty cool idea relating to the distinction between Fang and Gray dragons. At some point Tiamat thought Fang dragons to be weak so she “Blessed” the eggs of some fang dragons to hatch as Gray dragons instead, now with a breath weapon. Gray dragons have an instinctual desire to hunt Fang dragons so the only species left would be the improved Gray dragon as apposed to the “weak” fang dragon.

Whilst this is a fine logical explanation, I've always found it a little bit lame in terms of handling the concept of the monster. We get a Dragon that is unique for not having a breath weapon to speak of, and what happens to it? It gets hunted to extinction by the version of it that DOES have a breath weapon. Great. Cool.

@@KonoGufo the way I changed it was the gray dragons lost some of their strength to gain a breath weapon. They are still stronger than other chromatics but the fang dragon is far stronger physically then them and way stronger than other dragons. I also made it so fang dragons weren't just hunted by gray dragons but all dragons devoted to tiamat. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense that this new race of dragons could take on much older and smarter dragons just because they could breath acid.

@@necro6767676 I like that! That's more or less the way I like to style things with them too, ie. making them competitors to Gray Dragons rather than inferior copies of them. That way the Grays expand the variety of the dragon roster without invalidating the unique status of the original Fang Dragon; and it makes the party paranoid when they see a Gray Dragon lol. Cuz then they don't really know what they're up against on first sight; are they going to be torn to shreds, or are they going to be melted by acid?

I love the idea of a gray dragon using it's ability to mimic to mess with the party. As an intelligent creature there is nothing to say it couldn't find people they care about as it hunts the party. Then it could taunt the party with the voices of their loved ones during the fight.

A fun 'quirk' for one might be that it always addresses someone in conversation with that person's own voice. Bonus layer: That voice sounds more childish the more you've annoyed them and more distinguished the more they respect you. Because they're that good at modulating the sound. (And they change the word choices to match.)

Personally, I love the ferrous dragon species. Favorite's the Chromium dragons, in part because it'd be genuinely Hellish to hear a DM describe how "you see a reflective silver flash streak across the sky. As it gets closer you realize this is a dragon," only for that DM to continue with "as it passes overhead, a twenty-foot long bolt of solid ice crashes into [sacrificial lion NPC or part of your camp]".

If I may make a recommendation for a monster I suggest the Steel Dragon. They're a metallic sub-species that lives most of their life under a variety of humanoid disguises and while they are primarily lawful neutral they can be good or evil so they can fit multiple roles to fit whatever the DM wants.

And for missing Gem dragons? : Jacinth, Citrine, Ruby, Obsidian, Jade and Amber.. Though Amber isnt reeealy a gem just hardened tree sap and too similar color to orange Topaz, yellow Citrine etc

Most of the other ones you've mentioned are on the list as well, but Citrine isn't on the list at all for D&D dragons released by TSR/WotC. What's its source? You're the first person to request the jacinth, but I know the source for that one.

I'm giving it a" breath weapon" sort of just spitting up loose teeth in a sort range burst. The sea of fangs line makes me think it's like a shark always loosing teeth but it's a dragon so they just grow back.

@@msf2399don’t some birds have a pouch in their throat that they store rocks in to better break down food. So maybe the gray dragon has a similar pouch in stores loose teeth in that it can then shoot out at high speeds, but because those teeth I imagine don’t immediately grow back it might only be able to do this once per day, it still puts emphasis them primarily fighting physically, and in that case to could also make this ‘teeth breath’ have that on a failed save the teeth lodge them self in to the target imposing disadvantage on attack roll and maybe even saving throws and reduce their speed by half or more. This breath can be used as a last ditch effort to ensure their prey doesn’t get away.

one thing for all you FFXIV players, Zenos yae Galvus is a "gray dragon". Our DM made a disguised gray dragon the leader of an adventurers guild. After killing her greatest rival, she was unable to surpass or recreate the experience for a millenium. She went through her rivals belongings and read his jounal. An Ancient Gray Dragon hunting demons in the Abyss might be pretty cool. Powerful demons like Balors and Klurichurs are definitely worthy prey, after all. Imagine a low-ish level party just wandering in the Abyss and you see an Ancient Gray Dragon feasting on a Balor, and then later on they learn more about that particular dragon and how it terrorizes the realms, searching all planes for worthy feasts as the party slowly builds up dread realizing that they are going to have to fight that dragon, and it ends up being a major boss battle. Awesome encounter buildup throughout a campaign. Maybe the party finds out that this dragon has notably stolen several powerful magic items among all the random stuff, and the party goes to steal it while the dragon's out hunting. Then, as the party is poking around, they will see the dragon begin to fly in from the distance. They try to escape, but it's too late. The party has no way of getting out of the lair before the speedy dragon gets there, with the party far from the entrance and the dragon getting closer by the second. The party's only option is to fight.

One thing that crosses my mind a bit is how alignments can shift for dragons depending on circumstances while keeping nature relatively consistent. There was a story the youtuber 'All Things DnD' covered about a black dragon hatchling being raised by IIRC a lawful good character and how that shaped alignment for the dragon. It crossed my mind a bit listening to this--gray dragons love challenges and difficult battles. The harder the better. When the world can be extremely cruel, dark, and unforgiving at times, preserving innocence/staying good, kind, and hopeful in the face of that takes more effort than just giving up and going with the tide. It might be neat to have either a very young or very old gray dragon get confronted with the idea and like, spend some of their stalking/recon time evaluating the condition of the world to determine whether it's harder to preserve good or push evil overall. It's possible to just go case-by-case and battle-by-battle too, but philosophically that could be a lot of fun to mess with. And then there's also the idea of limits tied to good making things harder compared to unfettered evil. Basically, on top of 'this would be a challenging fight' I think there could be really fun plot hooks on these dudes too.

For a breath weapon, I find it interesting to apply the shadow dragon stat block. Not across the board, mind you, grey dragons as a whole won't have the alteration or any breath attack. But say if they are going to be fighting multiple grey dragons in a campaign, might throw in a shadowfell touched grey dragon to mix things up. Gray dragons have a bite attack that drains ones vitality and restores the dragon, great, now they have a breath weapon that does the same thing, but also could potentially bring those from the dead into specters under the dragon's control.

Instead of a lair full of random items taken as mementos, how about a lair of trophies? Sort of like the white dragon, but much more sophisticated. I'd even consider that he keeps his Stone breath, but only can use it when he is interacting with a dead corpse. Or maybe if you are killed by a gray Dragon, the exact moment of your death is Frozen in time and immortalized in stone. And the dragon takes your stone remains to its lair, and its Lair is full of dead bodies as trophies. Without a breath weapon, the Great Dragon could easily just take the head of the creature to be placed on its walls. The reason you might want to go to a gray Dragon's Lair is to get access to a whole bunch of different species. Sometimes species that don't even exist anymore, that the gray dragon has completely hunted into Extinction. Thousands of potion ingredients that no longer exist anywhere else. Pieces of old deceased races, that the gray Dragon either maintains in stone, or by giving some of its additional life essence through a bite, rejuvenates it's trophies. Or it could just be taxidermy.

I personally think it would be cool if they were considered abominations by other/true dragons), Bieda, Leshy, Vobyanoy, draugr and Nain Rouge. Feel free to use any of these in your videos. Also could you do Positive Energy Dragons and Negative Energy Dragons?

He most just converts monsters from Pathfinder 1e and old D&D monsters. Most of these would need to be originally done. Some of them are in Pathfinder already so they can be added to the list. The howler is in 5e's Monsters of the Multiverse, chupacbra is in Plane Shift: Ixalan, and hippocamp is in Mythic Odysseys of Theros. Also, there's no immediate listing of positive or negative energy dragons. Where would one find a source on that?

The first thing I thought of while listening to this was that this dragon would be an AMAZING background force in a long campaigns. Not only could background stories be influenced by this monster going around and hunting down characters, it would be amazing to freak a party out early on. Have the party encounter the dragon at super low level, the dragon doesn’t fight them because it wouldn’t be worth the time, and then have it hunt the party down once they’re strong enough. Maybe even start that encounter with the grey dragon using its mimic skill to repeat something a PC said when they first talked to it.

For some weird reason, it seams it would be a hilarious way of saving the party from accidental TPK. Fang dragon swoops in, uses enemy that it was tracking for days as a liquid mouthwash (regardless of enemies form before getting between its teeth) and leaves (or demands a memento as a payment).

At some point I'd love to see you cover the ferrous dragons, as they contain my favorite dragon, the Cobalt Dragon. It has all the traits I've wanted to see in a dragon: it's blue, frilly, noodly, has an affinity for electricity, and can breathe water. Also, the idea of firing a magnetic beam has only become cooler to me over time, but maybe that's just because I recently finished the Expanse Series. Personally I'd modify the beam to deal half-force and half-electricity damage in order to distinguish it from any potential force dragon adaptations. Also I'd probably add a caveat that cobalt dragons are immune to the their own breath weapon as well as other magnetism-based attacks, but that's getting too deep into the nitty-gritty.

This. Is. Perfect! For weeks, I've had an idea of a legendary Paladin, literally the First Paladin of the Order, whose petrified body is kept in a temple as a Relic, and no magic has ever been able to restore her to living flesh. Never heard of a gray dragon before, and now it's bite/breath weapon petrifies? It all works. But now, the trick is to find the grey dragon and use it's blood to bathe her in it. Why has no one thought of it until now? I'm envisioning Gandalf doing research in a dusty scroll library, looking for that one piece of info, that one mention of "precious" that explains the dragon. Maybe some adventurer fought it a thousand years ago, and later wrote "The dragon stood over me, and spit, saying I was a weak failure compared to his last conquest. I know not whom he meant."

Ooh, I like the idea of the party having to seek out a legendary bounty hunter to help them defeat a really strong BBEG, and they learn where they are and what they’ve accomplished, but the party only discovers that it’s a gray dragon when they find it. As for the grey dragons, one way you can use them is maybe to make a hunting contest or tournament, that is secretly orchestrated by a grey dragon as a way to find a worthy target, as the winners seem the most worthy and powerful to be slain.

I really wish Kinder dragons were officially published somewhere because I would love to see you do a video on them. I'm fairly certain they are something my Dad made up. They are actually uniquely nomadic, as when they hatch they imprint on another creature and only mate when they meet up with another of their kind, simply leaving the egg behind to hatch alone. They get their name because they are much smaller then normal dragons, I think they only grow to a max of large, and have a mane of hair that resembles a topknot. Probably the coolest thing about them is their breath weapon. They get two: sovereign glue and oil of slipperiness. The logic being they evolved to primarily spray the glue and the oil was to cout their insides so they didn't gunk up their internal organs. Over time they developed the ability to spay the oil out as well.

Kinder is the German word for child and I'm fairly certain that is where the word Kender comes from since they are described as looking like elf children and have very much child-like behavior. I appreciate that correction but I never thought Kender dragons were official. Like I said, they were something I think my Dad made up, all though another family friend might actually be the real originator, and they are definitely not half dragons. Half dragons just give to the core race draconic qualities of the draconic parent, it does not usually create an interiorly different dragon kind.

Going off the idea of Gray dragons being half Black dragon half White dragon. Nitric acid Breathe would be an interesting breath weapon for a gray dragon. So essentially the breath is used to chill solid objects but is relatively harmless to living creatures unless they touch a chilled object at which point they freeze to an object the creatures body temperature then triggers the object to thermally explode.

This made me think of a cross over with Monster Hunter lmao since Ive seen folk make it a dnd deal before. I just imagine the Guild wanting to keep under-wraps usually the Black Dragons especially upon the rumors of a Dark armored Hunter causing mayhem amongst the ecosystems/villages/whatever really they come across. So amongst the top hunters, player party Hunters, and or non-guild ones underground (Aka Bounty H ones too) it's been picking up speed that a mad hunter is the newest prize. Given capcoms love of "And so a portal randomly appeared and sucked in etc character into the MH World" Perhaps a fang dragon has made its living for some time now and through "connections" via dragon cults probably hears about the mad dark-armored hunter. Thing is because such time has passed and the knowledge learned via cults it knows EXACTLY what armor that hunter likely has and sees this as the hunt of a lifetime to face the black dragon being "reborn" if the storys are true.

GOT IT. Here's a Setting-Agnostic Lore idea (also a few plot hooks at the end): When the Fang Dragons were first created, they were SUPPOSED to be Gray dragons, but the result was imperfect. As a throwback to the Word Archon, think of this as the very definition of "Gray Dragon" being incomplete, whether by mistake or because of tampering from outside sources. And so, the first "Gray Dragons" lacked a breath weapon and had very dull scales, and as such were called "Colorless Dragons" or, most commonly, "Fang Dragons". Because the definition of "Gray Dragon" itself was flawed, even those born between black and white dragons were similarly flawed, and so mating between those two species was considered taboo. Also, because all other dragons saw Fang Dragons as "inferior" and "a disgrace upon dragonkind", they were attacked on sight. All of this led to Fang Dragons becoming exceedingly rare and having to focus HARD on their physical capabilities, which then led to them developing their "soul-rending bite" through natural selection (and maybe with some meddling. Perhaps by Malar himself, to which the Fang Dragons may have turned to, seeing as Tiamat hated them for being "defects"). When Tiamat later set on to "fix" the definition of "Gray Dragon", it was already too late, as the terms "Fang Dragon" and "Colorless Dragon" were already established, held significant meaning separate from the original term "Gray Dragon", and were no longer in her domain. So, fixing the term "Gray Dragon" had no impact on already existing Fang Dragons or their progeny, but would only affect newly hatched dragons born from black and white dragons, but the practice was still taboo. To get her way, Tiamat dispelled the taboo and then blessed some Fang Dragon eggs so that they would hatch into Gray Dragons, which would have shinier scales and an actual breath weapon (your choice on what kind of breath, but as the sadistic DM that I am, I like the idea of a petrifying breath). She then imparted on all Gray Dragons the divine mission to eradicate the "flawed" Fang Dragons, and so the Fang Dragons and Gray Dragons have become two different species (this part is ripped straight from 4e lore). Gray Dragons, unlike Fang Dragons, would not have to rely on their physical prowess as much because of their breath weapon, so their physical abilities and soul-rending bite could've athrophized over the generations. I would use the statblocks you made for the Fang Dragons, and modify them as appropriate for Gray Dragons. If one does give the Gray Dragons a petrifying breath or other petrifying ability, I can see them hoarding the petrified remains of particularly worthy foes in their lair, kinda like how white dragons do it. And of course, because petrified creatures can in theory be un-petrified, I can see this quirk becoming a potential plot hook: perhaps the party needs to retrieve an NPC who has been turned to stone by a Gray Dragon and then hauled to its lair. Since Gray Dragons don't spend much time around their lairs, I can see this kind of adventure being feasable even by a group of low-level PCs. It would involve meticulous planning to make sure they can get to the lair and leave without being seen. And, once they get to the lair, they'd be on a serious time crunch: find the NPC and get out before the dragon comes back, or else! Of course, one can also use the hostility between Fang Dragons and Gray Dragons as a plot hook as well: maybe the party is approached by a Fang Dragon who tasks them with slaying a rival Gray Dragon, or vice versa. However, there's no certainty that the quest-giver dragon won't try to hunt the party once they've done as they asked. After all, if they do manage to defeat their rival, they would prove worthy prey! Another plot hook could even involve a Word Archon, who thinks that Tiamat's actions (to modify the meaning of a term to basically delete another term) go against cosmic law, and so they task the party with trying to save the Fang Dragons from extinction. That would certainly be a different spin on Fang Dragons, who I would assume, after having been betrayed by their goddess and having gone through centuries or even millennia of being hunted, they must have some SERIOUS trust issues!

I have a dragon idea for you that I introduced back in the '80s; a brown dragon whose breath weapon was hot tar. The first saving throw was for the breath itself and if you failed that, another save for being stuck to the spot and if you failed that, another save to keep your mouth and nose clear of the tar. Typically we add three new requests per person, however, paradise dragons have been requested twice already so I'll add your name beside that, and put the rest down as well. But, yes, he does add the Pathfinder 1e monsters to his list as well.

I am glad I watched this. One of my favorite characters way back was based on a Fang Dragon using the Half Dragon Template in 3rd edition or ADnD (I'm old). The DM wasn't boring :) Half Dragon half Minotaur. Was an experiment of a wizard. It ultimately did not end well for the wizard. There was a lot more magic shenanigans involved, but he was a beast of pure ferocious power. He had the health drain bite. He had to use it often to help counteract a modified Carapace (coffin shell fungus). Was a fun story, and fun character.

I love the idea of a city hiring out a grey dragon as like an exicutioner. "I sentance you to death" Proceeded by akward scilence in the courtroom and the judge has to send the party outside and hope the grey dragon gets around to hunting them... when he gets around to it

I wonder if the person writing 4th edition lore was inspired by dragon color theory. For instance, the ability to turn people into stone could've been a trait somehow inherited from white dragons.

I added a few things to my gray dragon, I liked the idea that they can mimic sounds they hear, so I added a whole sound manipulation aspect, instead of a breath weapon it has a sonic attack that can disorient and knock out stuff or even shatter things if done hard enough, as well as the fact it has the ability to fly completely silently like an owl. Also it has a limited scrying like ability so it always has a clear sense of how to try and locate its mark, so it will always know roughly where your at if it's tracking you. I also made these dragons lore state their gray because its very neutral, their scales have the unique property of shifting pigments though so they have a natural chameleon like ability to hide, not true invisibility or anything, but in a night time encounter they can be truly terrifying. These dragons also always build a dedicated group of followers that aid it in hunts, it uses them like hunting dogs to flush prey out of areas it can't get at like caves and such. Lastly some of these dragons may have sought out aid from daurgathoth and been bestowed an ability for a magic disruption field that makes spells harder to cast with a chance to fail when cast near the dragon in exchange for them operating as agents for daurgathoth wo aquire things he may require. I turned these things into relentless hunters with plenty of plot hooks.

So, a Gray Dragon's hoard is basically its hunting trophies; it likely takes trinkets and momentoes from what it considers the most worthy or challenging prey. And once again, it could be interesting seeing an attempt to turn the Herculoids into D&D monsters, mostly because there are no official or subsidiary materials, to my knowledge, that stat them out. And as I mentioned before, the Herculoids predate D&D, so it's not too farfetched to think that some of the creatures and monsters in D&D's publishing history were inspired by creatures and monsters in the Herculoids series, including the Herculoids themselves. Something you might find interesting is that the Herculoids do appear in print; in the two-part comic Future Quest from a few years ago, the Herculoids are featured in the team-up for the comic, and the second comic in the series also gives a brief glimpse into why the Herculoids were initially formed but doesn't go into detail as how that really happened with the ones telling the story saying they will explain to the one they were telling the story to later. Future Quest features a massive team-up of some of the classic Hanna-Barberra cartoon characters, including the Herculoids. It even gives some context to the history some of the characters have with each other from before the official start of their initial series, all while pitting these characters against a new enemy that forces some team groupings that you really wouldn't see any other way.

I think you could roleplay the draining bite and the HP reduction as the PC turning to stone so you could include more of the 4e lore. Also I could see a fang dragon in a serial killer scenario: A bunch of corpses, torn to pieces with unhuman fangs by a polymorphed fang dragon, the PCs sent to investigate. The collecting of trophies at least fits the description of most serial killers. Also you could have it hunt other dragons as it arrogantly denies any other pray as being unworthy. Maybe to the degree of it looking for ways to enter other realities to hunt other versions of itself, what, according to recent lore, should transform it to a Greatwyrm. What prey would satisfy such a being? Kraken? Demons? Gods?
