I would give it another few abilities, a certain insect known as antlions, that dig sand traps were they are at the center of it falling into the pit would give the dragon a advantage against the players that fell and it can set them up to take damage each turn that is a combination of acid and physical until they reach the center of the trap after two or three turns, after which the dragons bite will crit and avoid ac by a percentage of the damage they took falling into the center of the pit, they then can bury the pc and it will take a certain amount of turns for either the pc to suffocate or escape. The second ability would be a tunnel ability allowing for it to create a system of tunnels that it could collapse to disrupt the surface possibly destroying structures and being used to move minions and resources unseen.

Those kobolds that are traveling the desert to bring food to their dragon master? They’re actually master chefs. They’re not hauling people, just gourmet ingredients to cook their master meals. Isn’t it awful that the brown dragon is forcing these kobold chefs to cook for him, under probably threat of death? No, it’s actually an honor to be asked to cook for a brown dragon, and they willingly there to prove their skills as the best in their field. Satisfying a brown dragon with your meal is the highest praise! And he tips very well. Maybe he’ll still eat them if he doesn’t like the cooking though

@AzraelThanatos Жыл бұрын
Actually, the spices would still work with one of the reasons they actually hoard the long lost relics...the actual value is secondary, their big thing is that a brown dragon is contemplative mixed with spurts of inquisitive, they collect relics because they're driven to learn and know whatever they could, often with heavy irritation of other dragons and long lived species because they might show up to start asking questions if they get on something. Some of them ending up on topics other than history while laying in wait pondering the exact recipe that a certain ingredient would be the perfect capstone for fits them just as much as some relic of a forgotten civilization that they're trying to figure out the use for...

The acid breath certainly sticks out a bit compared to the rest of their lore and toolkit. Maybe that's in part because the black dragon has the same thing and wears it better. Each ingredient will of course be some kind of Rare/Epic/Legendary item of great difficulty to acquire. Gonna be it's own Full Game Side Quest. The plot twist will be the rewards for the quest. 1: not becoming ingredients for the final dish. 2: getting invited to stay and eat and talk to the dragons about their adventures to find the ingredients. 3: tasting the tastiest food ever made in all of time. But also due to the complexity of each major ingredient, are all granted a random perk / spell / ability of GM's choosing. My campaign right now involves a random assortment of a Harengon Alchemist, Flame Sorcerer Dark Elf, Water Genasi Pirate Druid, and Halfling -Changling Arena Champion Fighter, who are all still unawares that their abilities stem from one place: STANDO POWAH. Having them finish this quest will unlock a new ability for their Stands, as by the time they can complete it, they will be significantly more familiar with their powers (and know about them)

Baradün is an old, old dragon who actually is not hostile to the players at all. He kept snacking on those flying dream manta rays from a previous video and started tripping massive dream balls. He fell asleep at his ambush spot decades ago and now is never quite sure if he’s awake or asleep, referring to any players that fall into his forgotten trap as “little dreams”, not bothering to snap at the clearly imaginary PCs unless provoked. His area of the desert has some trippy mirage-dream stuff going on and actually borders the blasted waste that is an ancient blue dragon’s. The Big Blue however knows he’s around and his current state, so pragmatically allows him to slumber there for the added draconic regional effects, having plundered the lair years ago. But he also has many contingency plans in case Baradün wakes up and causes a ruckus.

But if one decides to take over or become patron to a town or city, they tend to soften up as neutral alignments as they recognize the benefits that running a city offers them, like easy supplies of gourmet food and access to adventurers for relic hunting! They can still be evil, obviously since there are cities in setting that are run by outright evil people, but I’d imagine their love of relics and food makes the Brown dragons a LOT more affable and accommodating. At worst the still-evil ones eat chefs they have qualms with, or eat adventurers or archaeologists that attempt to swindle them or otherwise gift them phony and counterfeit relics. Though perhaps this nature also manifests as being strict with food safety codes and historical preservation! They can even use their magic to make the desert hospitable for agriculture, fertilizing the soil or pulling toxins from water supplies! Or outright can make mineral-rich water themselves! I’d even give them a humanoid polymorph that allows them to partake in very fine dining!

Awesome! In my mind I understood it that 4e brown desert replaced the 2e yellow sand dragon. While I despise replacing arguments, the 2e yellows should be renamed/ colored to Beige / Tan dragons. Why? Well having THE Yellow dragons be the chromatic coastal, winged and salt breathing type is much more unique and varied. Yes I want my coastal territory dispute of Yellows, Topazes and Bronzes 😂 If WotC or a creator like you DD could make a campaign around THAT I would shell out dosh for sure 😁

One suggestion for a breath weapon instead of also doing acid. What if it's a liquid that turns the dragon's victim into sand?
@teacupbirb4711 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps one could take the Shara Ishvalda route and give it a breath of concentrated sonic vibrations.
@grogc6942 Жыл бұрын
Potentially for that it's straight up heat. Not fire but dry heat to dehydrate, crack, peel, and debilitate so it's like super concentrate desert atmosphere that can wear people down into sand. Potentially instead of all out damage it could be a few spread out options like a little damage, and one or two debuffs. Just spit balling, really.

Absolutely love it, when I run this, I wanna add one glaring weakness just to make the combat a bit more eccentric. So, the brown dragons live in the desert, an area with copious amounts of sand. This means that they are constantly covered in it, even when they emerge from the ground. If someone where to superheat this sand with say, a fireball, or a similar heating attack, the sand on the brown dragons body will undergo vitrification, and the brown dragons body will be frozen in place by sand that was just turned into glass. This could be a fun way to spice up the encounter, maybe the dragon loses access to a particular limb, or its movement speed becomes zero, any number of effects are possible.

Here's a main thing I've discovered, or at least hypothesize after talking with a friend. I'm not entirely sure the whole aspect of color theory can really work for figuring out dragon births, the "brown dragon being a blue dragon child" being a slight case for it, plus we never really see that many unions between different colored dragons in general D&D canon. It seems more like random chance as to what color/type a dragon would be when they're born, it just basically comes down to how likely a color is chosen depending on what colors/types the parents are. Like a union of 2 of the same color dragon results in like say a 99.99% chance the child would be the same. But the moment another color is introduced, it's basically up to RNG at that point. There's also the Hydra aspect some dragons have. I personally think that could be a case of an RNG birth thing too, but more along the idea of being "conjoined twins". This also spawning from talks with said friend about Tiamat and how we came to a possible conclusion that Tiamat is secretly (only known to her and a select few) a mortal ascended god and that she was a red hydronic dragon birthed from a "red + ????" pairing, explaining both the multiple heads AND why they're each type of the pre-established "main" chromatic dragon. Also, this makes like the third dragon in this series that spits acid. If I had to choose, I honestly think this colored dragon would have chosen fire if it NEEDED to be a repeat element, or at least some kind of hallucinogenic venom if keeping to the acid origin. Makes sense from an environment standpoint to me considering one of their magics is making mirages and those are normally just heat waves tricking the eye.

color-wise... live in shallow, warm seas, bully merpeople tribes and merchant ships into bringing them tribute. Despite their obvious villainy, they like to style themselves as benevolent rulers - they are a bit like genies when it comes to ego. Their breath attack manipulates water into a narrow stream that pressure-cuts their opponents. They love to make their underwater lairs around nautical hazards, so that sometimes new loot just drops into their lairs. They can also use their innate magic to manipulate water currents and make such places more dangerous - they wouldn't stoop to directly attacking someone who doesn't pay them tribute, they simply "withdraw their blessing."
@notoriousgoblin83 Жыл бұрын
The question is what happens when you mix lightning and chlorine gas? The closest thing I found was making CFCs, but I'm not sure if a dragon that destroys the ozone layer is all that threatening to the party. I guess you could go for an angle of suffocation, the refrigerants immobilising people by flash freezing them or just take poisonous energy and call it radiation.
@notoriousgoblin83 Жыл бұрын
Apparently, chlorine releases the most energy of any element when electrons bind to it and attracts electrons really strongly, so this is possibly a poisonous, electrical cloud that explodes.

I just realized the nightmare that is dragon lore in D&D. We have chromatic dragons, missing chromatic dragons, metallic dragons, missing metallic dragons (which dungeon dad has moved on too now that we are out of chromatic dragons), gem dragons (Which I just learned of from a comment on the yellow dragon video), and celestial dragons (The ones out in space: sun, moon etc.). All of wich have their own gods, but due to how space works in D&D there is no way the celestial dragons can have a god because it would just die, so they need a different explanation for how they came to be. And all of these gods interact with the world and eachother in different ways. This has gone from rabit hole to abyss surprisingly fast. (I do not know very much lore so if you have any information on these things or know any kinds of dragon I missed I would appreciate it.)
