Hi whole corn also helps cows stay warm in winter. My brothers says it isnt so good during the hot months though. We have beef and dairy cattle here. Told my brother you buy calves from the dairy farms. Well might be a new business for your beef production. Ask dairy farmers how much they charge for any cows that are no longer producing enough milk. We have huge demands for older dairy cows and we keep our own freezer stocked with their meat. It has beautiful marbling and lots of flavour. Best though to let them rest when retired so they can relax more. Improves beef quality

You must remember egg production does reduce in autumn and winter, most chickens lay 278 days. Light can minipulate laying period.😊 It’s great to give the chickens some greens too, which you do occasionally😊 Kids are getting bigger, even their big sister.

I've raised many turkeys, hens dressed out at 20 to 30 lbs and Tom's up to 50+ lbs. Never start them with turkey starter, it's too hot of a feed. Always start them with chicken starter.. And when it comes to butchering... make yourself a spoon knife, it's works so well you will not have to pluck a feather, they just fall out. My grandfather, a longtime poultry farmer always used a killing spoon. Even the pin feathers are not an issue. For more info let me know and I'll explain.

As for feeding corn to cows, the cow's stomach was not designed for grain. It was designed for grass. Yes, grass produces less marbling and takes longer to reach butchering weight, but it is better for the animals and for humans, according to a couple of studies, and some people prefer the taste of the taste of grass fed beef!! Plus, there's a market for it! Feeding cows corn to get rid of excess corn, saves money on feed, helps finish the cows up for butchering, plus the cows love it. 😆 🤣 😂

Good thing you have your own farm water supply and other than electricity to pump such, really do not buy the water which considering the leak, well, you did not have a huge expense (I know you would have searched high and low earlier if that was the true case).

Had a neighbor who raised some turkeys one year, the same neighbor I got eggs from, and the largest one was 52 pounds and she had to cut it in half to fit it in the oven. Also, she kept a few geese with her chickens because they were the best guard dogs for keeping critters away from them, I just remembered that.

To do a proper experiment you have to have a control group and an experimental group at the same time on the same everything besides cracking corn. I don't like whole corn because they can't digest it. I do like cracked once corn where it isn't ground up for dust to be an issue but it is cracked so the cattle can digest it.

So what day does work begin on the old potato harvester, so you don't have to harvest on your knees all day next year? Is it actually fixable? Will you be putting a windbreak on the new sheds for those little calves? Maybe a sheet of plywood or some tin ziptied to the gates? Everything looks great. Glad you found that water leak. I worry that the work we did on the farm 45 years ago might be coming back to bite the current occupants.
