The problem isn't elusives any more than Magic has a problem with Flying units. The problem is the lack of ways to deal with elusive units specifically, and how easy it is to buff units in Runeterra in general.

I don't see people complaining about Flying in Magic, granted I'm not looking at that community ever, but whenever I peek that way nobody talks about flying. Instead of making a keyword that blocks Elusive, why not allow the Challenger Keyword to block it instead. might make the keyword a bit too strong but hey, it's a way to deal with elusives.

@@amateurishauthor2202 Challenger is an offensive keyword, not really designed to augment a unit's defense. It's already one of the most powerful keywords in the game, and I don't think it needs more power. We are starting to see more units that are not elusive themselves but that can block elusive units, which I feel is the best solution.

As a magic player who plays both with and against flying creatures (Preferred colors are UB, BG, and UBG) I absolutely agree. If you play blue you can't really just stick a bunch fliers in a deck and expect to be able to hit face no matter what. And if you play green you almost never feel like you're just powerless against decks with fliers. Part of the reason is absolutely that reach exists. Giving colors and archetypes that don't have access to flying a bunch of creatures that can block fliers is huge, especially since a lot of the creatures with reach have other things going for them as well so they don't end up being tech cards that brick your hand if you draw them against a deck that doesn't run a lot of fliers. The other thing that makes reach good is that you can get it on everything from cheap weak creatures to Big Dudes(tm) that cost 7+ mana so you have access to it early but you can also do something about the bigger flying creatures like angels or dragons (ah yes let me feed my omen hawk to that giant 10/10 elusive dragon. I'm sure that will end well). However, there's another keyword that I think helps keep the fliers from being unstoppable: Deathtouch. Deathtouch is pretty self explanatory, if a creature with deathtouch deals any amount of damage to another creature, that creature dies. This makes attacking a lot more dangerous and keeps bigger fliers at bay. If my opponent has a 1 mana 1/1 with reach, I'm just gonna run it over with my 2 mana 1/3 flier. But if it's a 2 mana 1/1 with reach and deathtouch I'm not going to attack, even if my flier has better stats. Deathtouch also helps even if the creature doesn't have reach since you can just use a fight spell to throw it at the flier. Now to be fair, I don't know if riot should add death touch to runeterra. Deathtouch mainly exists in magic because combat damage isn't permanent so you need a way to deal with high health enemies. If they do add something similar it would have to be very sparingly.

To overcome how frustrating elusive units are, I think elusive units should have "Elusive effect last only 3 rounds" then become regular units. and number of rounds can vary for different units. Another idea: Elusive units can't get buffed. Considering the over powered Elusives in the video 😂

@@Chickensea10 In my opinion, that sounds bad. Creating or increasing a counter to something, doesn't make it balanced, it only means you have to include the counters in most decks to not get obliterated. If "can't block" was more common, Elusive units would be made or buffed to be stronger, cause none of them have quick attack, tough, overwhelm, fearsome, brash, etc to attack, or else they would be unplayable. But then any deck that doesn't use any elsuive blockers, insta loses, meaning everyone is forced to play elusive blockers. Elusive units should have a "built in" weakness, like it lasting a few rounds like in the first post, or losing it after attacking. Barrier and Spellshield are great examples of this. The reason is fairly simple. Add enough mechanics that have specific, instead of general counters, and eventually no one will be able to build a deck that has all landmark removal, Equipment removal, elusive blocking, spell denying, keyword removal options available. Keyword removal is the only one I'd keep, since its general instead of specific. If a keyword was created, like "Funky", and a counter "remove Funky from a unit" was created to counter it, thats bad design. Its better to include "Funky" to the "keyword removal" counters. So for example, the game would be much more healthy if: -All "deck defining" landmarks were nerfed, but all landmark removal was cut from the game (meaning landmarks are reserved for "Warmothers call" effects, being permanent for the entire game, in exchange for losing board space) -All equipment (at least the ones that see constant play, like the harp and fan) gets toned down, but all equipment removal is cut from the game. Thankfilly, darkin weapons already have a built in weakness. They are worse than the normal equipment cards, and they can be "lost forever" if used as units. Normal weapons however, would need some way to get nerfed, so as to have built-in counterplay. One way is to make it so when a weapon returns to hand after the unit gets killed, its highest stat is reduced by 1. If it was at 0/0, it gets obliterated instead. This makes it so it can no longer go infinite, and gives some much needed value to forging weapons, as well as a natural way to unclog weapon filled hands in weapon decks. -Spell denying. Imma be real, deny should cost 0 mana, and cost as much mana as the spell it wants to stop. The deny follower from Ionia should work the same way, but maybe by half the cost or something. It's a shame those denies exist, cause the 3 or less cost deny, bandle deny, rite deny, and ambush deny are so well designed in comparison...

Filthy adblocker installed? Well excuse me, but when I first started watching KZbin back in the day THERE WERE NO ADS. Well, no video ads to be specific. I held out on using adblocker until earlier this year to protest the ever-increasing amount of ads from YT. They were even doing crap like testing how many ads viewers would tolerate, but apparently they didn't get my data. KZbin ads are only going to get worse and worse, and KZbin Red is incredibly expensive when compared to removing ads on literally anything else. I mean 14 dollars just for ad removal? On other sites its like 2 dollars. They're joking though, aren't they
