I Have to say, I purchased the Loupedeck Live when it first came out in early 2021 and this was by far the best video explaining customization I've seen over the 2 years trying to figure out how to set this up. 😂 Thank you for explaining workspaces & how they relate to profiles. I also appreciate how you showed actual use cases. Most of the videos I've seen are from someone who isn't in the video production field, it's mostly from streamers or photo editors and they never went in depth as to how they customized it for editing. Thankyou! I would indeed watch the full tutorial on customization. I too agree that the stand was flimsy. Mine broke and I just went the Amazon iPhone stand route. And yes, the setup time was not as user friendly as they made it seem, whereas El gato looks like plug n play. Mine was legit collecting dust but your video has inspired me to revive it

I'm glad it was helpful! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. =) And haha, I agree. It's easy for a device like this to become a paperweight and collect dust due to the complexity of setup and level of effort required to seamlessly migrate it into your daily routine. However, once you get to that point, it all clicks and you likely wouldn't be able to imagine working without it. It has saved me so many hours in video editing alone.. I could have bought 30 of them and it still would be worth it to me. I hope you are able to get it back up and running in a way that improves your workflow!

Hello, Jose from Puerto Rico. I use Photoshop and Lightroom and I just pulled the trigger on one of these units. The Loupdeck Live 269 dollar model. I had ordered the TourBox Lite new less expensive model ($94 bucks). So I'll give the LoupDeck a try and Tourbox. One will be put away as a backup unit if anything goes south. I had experience with the TourBox Elite, but it broke down on me and I put it away. Someday I'll send it in for repairs. I saw your video and analyzed the virtues of LoupDeck, which seems to be a very powerful unit not just only for the creative arts, but anything you can throw at it. Thanks for showcasing this units merits. Oh... I subscribed to your channel😀👌

@@aline.tech.reviews From what I saw in your video, I think I will give LoupeDeck an extensive shot. What you showed is that the possibilities are endless and if I can tweak it to my heart's content, I'll keep the TourBox as a backup or if I ever get another machine, I'll use it there. I do have experience with the TourBox Elite, but it's broken. It just stopped working. I'll keep you posted.😀

I've been considering something like this. I'm having an issue coming up with real uses for it though. I definitely don't need a button to press to call up a program. Without having to move my hands I can open up finder (command+space) and then type the name of the program (or part of the name). That will always be faster than moving my hand and pressing a button, especially if there are pages to scroll through. If it's already open it's trivial to call it back up (virtual desktops to swipe between). The knobs look interesting. I don't know if that's really more accurate than the mouse. The mouse moves in pretty small increments, and many things support the mouse wheel which functions like a knob. I want this ... or something like it. I just can't figure out how to justify it. I can't figure out how this is going to make things easier. I know it will add stuff to my desk with the box and another cable laying across my desk and running to my laptop. Things I didn't have there before.
@aline.tech.reviews

From reading your comment here, it sounds like you don't need one! It would probably be more obvious, and you wouldn't need to find a way to justify it, if you needed it. I'll provide some insight on how I use it below. Opening an application isn't really a primary function of the device, though it's definitely the most basic to demonstrate. It's more like a secondary/tertiary function that just happens to be convenient. A useful example would be if you have a specific set of apps that you open in the morning to begin work, you can create a macro to open them all and arrange them on your screen where you want them. If you're hopping on a Zoom call you can have a set to open Zoom + buttons to mute your mic, pause your music, open a browser, swap to a clean virtual display so you don't leak anything, and start screen sharing. If you were a streamer, it could open up all your streaming apps and start your live stream countdown and boot up your chat, then load your scenes and hotkeys in for controlling your stream once you go live. If you have smart home devices, you can map all your home functions to this so you don't need to pull out your phone. Where it comes in handy, IMO, is mapping shortcuts for your regularly-used applications. For example, I recently picked up Davinci Resolve (video editor) and I was tired of learning new shortcuts (every few months we get new apps and I have to memorize the shortcuts for them all).. the Loupedeck allows me to map those shortcuts to buttons I can press. If I want to edit/cut up a video, I can tap on my "Edit" workspace and then on the buttons I have a bunch of tools for cutting clips, moving them, swapping places, transposing, adding effects, etc. and I never had to learn a single shortcut. And the knobs allow me to easily scroll the timeline, move things around, etc. without having to lift up my hand, move the mouse, click something new, and move my hand around to try to get it just right vs. the sensitivity of my mouse. No more memorizing hundreds of CTRL SHIFT ALT T combinations. There was a pre-made Davinci plugin that I bought from a third party and nearly 800+ actions of the app were set up for me; all I had to do was organize the ones I planned to use most where I wanted. I've since gone back and done this for all applications I use daily, from Slack, Monday, Zoom, MS Outlook, to Photoshop, Lightroom, and so on. The knobs are useful for micro adjustments without needing to change tabs and hunt it down with your mouse to point at it. You can also make multiple adjustments at once.. say if I'm editing a photo I can dial down to the blue and green half of the grid, or exposure and white balance, at the same time as an X/Y axis.. and then I have 4 more knobs to move my hands to or I can swipe and open 6 more knobs without ever having to touch my mouse and click on anything. Of course, you could just use your mouse wheel or buy a separate macro knob.. and you can make that argument for just about every function of the Loupedeck (e.g., you could download a macro application to handle shortcuts, map them to keyboard binds on your keyboard, use the built-in keyboard shortcuts, click things with your mouse, etc.).. the selling point here is the convenience of mapping your most-used actions and not having to memorize shortcuts for 20+ applications anymore. Getting it all set up is an uphill battle.. as you have to be intentional and knowledgeable of how you use your apps, and rewire your brain.. but once you've made it there, the convenience piece kind of "clicks". I'm guessing most people probably give up here and the device ends up collecting dust or being used very rarely for basic actions. However, I pushed through and now it's hard to see myself going back. I literally just upgraded to the larger version, the Loupedeck CT, so that I could have the dedicated wheel for video/photo editing. I'm moving this smaller Loupedeck Live to my new Mac/Apple Vision Pro setup to work in MR.

@@aline.tech.reviews Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed response! Yeah, I don't think it's for me. I've been considering getting something like this for a couple years. I just can't figure out a use for it. I'm a software engineer. Using keyboard shortcuts for things is kind of a point of personal pride for us (using a GUI earns judgement). So, just about everything I do is a quick keyboard press away. Mute sound, mute mic, skip song, track forward, play/pause ... those things are already keys on the default mac keyboards. Plus I run a logitech MX mini with macros across the top ... I don't remap them ... but I can. I think that's kinda what I should be focusing on. I already have macro options on the mouse and keyboard and there's nothing to use them on. There are potentially other devices I could control with it (room lights, fans). But, all of that has the ability to use voice commands instead of having a piece of hardware on my desk. Opening up the software I use is pretty minimalistic (it gets opened once and it's good until I need to reboot my machine weeks later). I'll keep thinking about it! Maybe there is software I use where I do use the GUI and it would be easier to press a single button than to potentially have to dive into menus to access functionality.

@@zero11010 - Of course! And I 100% agree. Sometimes less is better. I was a web developer (I now manage teams of developers instead) and when I was actively developing I got a standard Stream Deck thinking it would help me out, but I never really found any true use for it. It's effectively the same as the Loupedeck without the knobs. At the time, I primarily used Visual Studio Code, ConEmu terminal, and a bunch of extensions for both.. none of which required buttons or macros. It ended up being used only for liking Spotify songs and muting/unmuting Voicemeeter channels for my audio. I used it once to set up a complicated macro to save myself time on a repeatable task that I used for 2 weeks... and that was about it 😆😆 AKA, it was useless taking up space on my desk. Definitely sounds like you're good to go with your Logitech MX and mouse! I wouldn't risk trying to overcomplicate things. Plus, there are digital version of macropads that you can map to your function keys or custom keyboard shortcuts which would be a nice babystep until you are able to find more uses for a dedicated device.

Great stuff! This is the video I was looking for! 🥰Almost bought the Stream Deck+ yesterday, but considering this unit now. I'm concerned a bit about the limitation of only 55 plugins, whereas Elgato has hundreds, but I guess I can configure whatever I want it to do...? Will you be able to make the comparison you mention with the Elgato unit(s), mainly the SD+, please? Will I be able to control my sound mixes separately like it's possible with the Wavelink on the SD+, if I use the Live with Steelseries Sonar (would prefer not to use Voicemeeter). Thank you!
@aline.tech.reviews
@aline.tech.reviews 6 ай бұрын
Appreciate that! Is your main use case going to be live streaming? I would suggest Googling "Loupedeck Marketplace" to see all the plugins and profiles it has, you can get a better assessment of what will apply to you vs. the Elgato system (I can't paste links in YT comments). The Elgato system is way more robust, but that only matters if you actually use all that stuff. If you find that Elgato has a lot of plugins you want to use, then it might be wise to stick with their ecosystem, especially if you have a the other Elgato devices (their lights, wave mic, etc.). There is a native way to control your sound mixes separately with the Loupedeck - it's based on your OS inputs and outputs.. but you can map a button to take you to your "Volume Mixer" (one for input, one for output).. and on that screen you can see all your inputs or outputs, tap on the icons of the apps to mute them individually or control their sound level individually with the knobs. It's all there automatically, so you don't have that manual control of selecting the input vs output device. Then, there's a plugin called "Volume Control" - which gives you the individual control to set each button / knob to a sound source as you please (more similar to WaveLink). I am not super familiar with Steelseries Sonar - but as far as I can tell there is no integration with Loupedeck to control the "Audio Mix Panel" - you would have to use the plugin above to individually control your input/output channel volumes externally. I am planning to drop a video comparing the two still! It unfortunately might be a while as I have so many videos still to get out this year =( .
@FloridaMan_7
@FloridaMan_7 6 ай бұрын
@@aline.tech.reviews, thank you for your kind response!! 🤗Streaming mainly, but also more and more content creation for KZbin, and perhaps general automating of tasks. The big advantage of Sonar (or Wavelink or Voicemeeter) seems to be that you can send separate mixes to yourself and the audience. The Volume Control seems to be a good plugin indeed - thank you for the tip - but it doesn't seem to allow for that. Might be possible to individually macro the Sonar settings onto the Loupedeck tho, but might be a bit cumbersome. That would be great indeed to see the comparison video 🥰, and I think that I might just keep on researching. For now, I'm using the Stream Deck for iOS trial and it's actually very capable and powerful, but physical buttons will beat that for sure. Crossing fingers you can get to it this year!

I really appreciate that! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. There is definitely a raised texture there - it's a plastic grid. I'd say the haptic feedback is probably the biggest limiter there for me in terms of feeling - with say StreamDeck buttons, you can depress them so you always get tactile feedback.. but with these, it's a haptic vibration that doesn't seem to fire consistently so you have to use other cues of looking at something to confirm whether it actually registered (which I don't like and haven't found a fix for yet). I have the Streamdeck vs. Loupedeck video in the works! Logitech also reached out to me offering to give another Loupedeck away to a viewer so I'm waiting on details for that.

Most definitely! It is on my list to finish but may not come until the end of January 2024. I have a regular Steamdeck (15 key) and plus, and the Loupedeck feels miles ahead. I think the StreamDeck+ will lose the battle because of the limited keys (have to remember if you want to organize youre going to need folders, which requires a back button, next button, and home button - so at worse case you will be losing 3 buttons on the +'s faceplate to navigate unless you sacrifice a dials instead). The only way I see Elgato coming ahead is if you are already in that ecosystem or really need a plugin that it offers (its plugin ecosystem is much larger).. or specifically for streamers. The latency of both is the same or at least there isn't a perceivable difference as a human. However, I will give it a fair assessment and in depth comparison in my review!

Just a heads up, the streamdeck plus has a touch strip for switching pages and folders. Also the knobs can be pressed down and used as buttons besides multiple click options in regards to knob turning sensitivity or change points per turn. I like the look of the loupdeck and the potential versatility, however I think most would get a lot more use from the elgato offering because of ease of use differences.

The plugins are not the same, they are two separate ecosystems. The Stream Deck has a lot more plugins and more developers actively building stuff.. so the ecosystem is larger and has more options. The Loupedeck is a little behind there. I prefer the Loupedeck generally due to the number of buttons and placement of knobs. I just upgraded to the Loupedeck CT. I'd go for the Streamdeck if you want to Stream and plan to use a lot of plugins that might be more niche, and Loupedeck if your focus is productivity. I think both apps you can publicly browse the app marketplace before you make a purchase.. so go check those out for the apps you might want to use first! That will help you make your decision. I have a video coming out to compare the two head-to-head but it's probably a month or so from being ready.

@ALINE tech: How can I switch between the ProPack and the ColorPanel (it seems installing the Color Panel profile overwrites the ProPack profile in the loupedeck software). Is it somehow possible to make them available at the same time ... without the need of changing them in the loupedeck software ?
@aline.tech.reviews
@aline.tech.reviews 6 ай бұрын
I believe understand your issue; Loupedeck can only have 1 *active* profile per application (because there is no logical way to display 2 at the same time). It's not overwriting the profile, it's adding it as a "sub profile". Click on Profiles and find BlackMagic Proxy Generator in the list, click the 3 dots to the right of it, and go to Manage Profiles - from there you can quick select the active profile. That seems tedious, but you can use the buttons on your Loupdeck (either along the bottom row or inside your grid) to quick swap these. There is a "SwitchProfile" action in the settings that allows you to select the BlackMagic application + the profile you want.. so you can set a button for both the Pro pack and the Color pack and easily toggle between the two.

It really falls apart at anything outside of that library. Trying to add hotkeys for MOBAs and games are such a pain to do. The biggest downfall for me is the software, it just doesn't have enough functionality outside of the main apps showcased.

Yea, I'm with you regarding the overall software ecosystem. It also feels "dead" - I was looking at the ecosystem before I bought it and now after and not much new has been developed (or updated, for that matter). Also, just silly stuff like Figma only being available for Mac and Notion/Figma/etc. not being updated for 2 years. I ended up paying $40 for a pack to get it to work nicely with Davinci Resolve and, while the pack is excellent and worth the cost, it would have been nice for the default one to just work better considering Davinci's renown as a video editing tool.

There isn't a built-in option, but there is a plugin called "Libre Hardware Monitor" that can do it.. but it requires that you have that app also installed. The plugin also hasn't been updated in a year - so who knows how long it will work for. Stream Deck is similar but has a plugin for HWInfo. One of the major downsides of the Loupedeck currently is the lack of developed plugins vs. Stream Deck. Stream Deck has such a larger market share that developers are focused on it and the HWinfo integration is still being updated regularly. Check out the "Loupedeck Marketplace" to search the plugins that exist to help you make your purchase decision.

Wished the square buttons were actual buttons. Otherwise it would have been perfect.

Yea, I enjoy the screen as it looks cleaner and there's no distortion of the image like Steamdeck buttons. However, the haptic vrabrational feedback doesn't fire reliably on every touch so you have to watch after every action to make sure you actually got it. Whereas a button you can feel it get depressed so you know you hit it.

I don't believe so - MacOS (OS X 10.15 or above) only. No iOS support that I see.

nice video. Loupedeck is not in anyway an analog control, it's all digital. I has physical buttons for binary (on -off) and rotary controllers for changing values (1-100). But in all cases, they're digital signals. Sorry . . but again nice video!

Thanks for watching! And agreed, good catch! Poor literal word choice from me when I meant physical controls/interfaces.

@@aline.tech.reviews He’s right, but I would’ve called them also analog knob, just because I’m old school - potentiometers, tape cassettes! 😂 My brain makes more sense for knobs as analog… ❤

It is confusing you demoed poor responsiveness of the touchbar by pushing an area which is not a touchpoint. (11:28). That are is for the dials. I use Loupdeck and have no issues with touch responses.
@aline.tech.reviews
@aline.tech.reviews 4 ай бұрын
I'm confused as to why you are confused. Those are touch points - you can test this by assigning a volume dial and then touch the pad there, it will mute it on touch. It's just very finicky - I found double tapping it works more reliably. There are actions that have specific touches assigned to them. For example mext/previous track assigned to the dial will have a play/pause below indicating you can tap there to play/pause (same as if you were to push the dial in).

Indeed. Double taps are accepted. (I didnt triy that). But I assume that behaviuor is designed. I tried several ones and all responded to double taps. And responded without any delay or something.

@@gfeher123 - I think you are right - I didn't notice until just going to test now. I am getting 100% success rate with double-tapping but single presses are failing

Confirmed this in the documentation: "You can also activate the press action by double-tapping the icon or the name of the dial on the dial displays."

Have you seen the new Loopedeck Live S? It's a bit less expensive but has more tiles, fewer knobs, fewer buttons. One of my channel viewers offered to pay for the loopedeck Live but I want to be a good steward ... do you think the new, cheaper model is better? Ie more tiles or is it better to have the extra knobs and buttons? Ie how often do you use more than 2 knobs? Thanks. I'll be using it to control OBS and also some complex pen color changes in PowerPoint while doing live streams (I'm sure more things later) @HebrewLiteracy

I rarely use more than 2 knobs at once (as I only have 2 hands). The others are more of a convenience thing - for example, when color editing I can have 3 dials for red, green, blue, and then 3 more dials for gamma, lift, exposure.. it simply gives me more options without having to take another action. Using audio as an example, I can control the volume levels of my desktop PC/chrome browser, microphone, game I'm playing, Spotify music, and my vinyl record player all on the same "screen" at one time which effectively turns it into a little mixer (whereas if I only had 2 knobs I could only see my mic + spotify at once, and would have to click a button to toggle through the rest). I think you would be fine with 2 knobs because you can effectively turn those 2 knobs into infinite knobs by use of the button presses of the knob (or your other buttons) to swap the actions on the knobs quickly. The only thing I'd keep in mind is your sound channels since it sounds like you're streaming . In this case, you may want something like 4 knobs.. 1 for your mic, 1 for your game, 1 for your music, and 1 for your desktop PC. In that case, the Streamdeck+ or Loupedeck Live might be a better fit for you.

@@aline.tech.reviews I decided to go with the Loupedeck Live, a channel subscriber graciously got it for me. I really appreciate your insight. You were right, having the extra knobs has been insanely useful. I stream live lessons, teaching Classical Hebrew here on youtube, and this device + a little scripting magic has already upped my game. I can change pen color quickly in power point while live streaming instead of fumbling through menus to select the color or reselect the pen tool when it's "lost." I also made a profile for Word which is saving me time when I'm working on my books. The default PowerPoint profile is laughable but easily enough changeable. I have noticed one thing, every once in a while it will get stuck on a profile and not switch. I'm tried toggling dynamic / static mode to no avail; when it's stuck it's stuck. This happened to me in a live stream one time. I have the latest firmware / software. Have you had this happen to you before where it stops "following" ? Thanks, -Jeremiah ( @HebrewLiteracy )
