This camera was too fun to shoot with but I think i'll stick to my x100v for now 🤯

Don't buy the M11 if you're getting into the M-system. Buy a used M240 or a used M10. It's a camera for the soul, I wouldn't rely on an M-camera only. Sometimes you need the a tool that just works so you can get shit done (like shooting weddings). But any other time, I personally use my M240. If you can live with not going above 3200-6400 iso then the M240 delivers almost everything. I shoot portraits and lifestyle mainly. Great video man! Much appreciated!

Leica M11 owner here! I’ve always had a photography and video business as a side hustle but I work full time as a creative director. I rent any pro gear for any project I have come up so I dont own gear any more - I pass that cost to my clients. Any money I make doing side work I pour into my personal photo kit which has been the Leica M242 and I just recently swapped that out for the M11 and the new Leica 35mm Steel Rim reissue. Best camera hands down and your analogy of the 5 speed vintage Porsche is spot on. Also yeah the Fotos app is so damn great. Keep up the good work!

The FOTOS app blew me away too. Wasn't even part of the purchase decision so it was such a pleasant surprise. I love how it wakes up the camera and how fast it transfers photos over. I typically dont even need to take out the SD card anymore.

I fully understand. Which makes sense since I own the Leica M11 Monochrom… along with pretty much every flagship from Canon and Sony. But guess which is my favorite to shoot with? Yep, the M11 Monochrom. Most wouldn’t understand why someone would buy a camera that is fully manual… even fewer still can wrap their mind around purchasing a monochrome only body. But for those that get it… well, they are in for some real fun exploring the art of photography.

I drive a manual trans Porsche Boxster … totally get that experience of being one with the car where it just flows. For photography, I’m really liking the poor man’s Leica … aka the Fujifilm X100V! Those old school manual controls are a delight to use!

I agree 100% with your comparison to a manual transmission sports car. I have an m10r and a manual BMW M3 and have made the same comparison. I tell people you can drive both a manual and an automatic car fast, but it takes more skill to make a manual car go fast - and the process is a lot more involved and fun. I WANT to drive my M3, I don't get that excited about my Chevy Bolt.

I have to say it just feels like a film camera. If Canon made an AE-1 with the same look, feel, heft, and shutter, it could demand a high price tag.

That’s true, the feel is special. Canon should be taking notes 👀

Oh, I love and can relate to the passion in this review! Great pics, inspiring, out of my range for now but on the ‘one day’ dream list! Love my X100V. Like Keith, I regularly check my images through the viewfinder. Why? Because using the LCD means I’ll have to put on my reading glasses, but the viewfinder has the diopter adjustment so I don’t need to do all of that messing around with glasses. I will often check shots in between shots on the street, and I do that with the camera facing the ground so that people around me don’t think I’m shooting when I’m actually reviewing.

im not a pro photographer... learning but from my limited experience I find all other cameras Sony/fuji/canon requires allot of tweaking. Had and sold leica q2(regret it allot) requires little to no editing the files look incredible and I'm not even a pro.. I Can imagine in the hands of a pro they can spend more time shooting and less time editing.

nice way to sum it up. the manual experience is not always sunshine and rainbows and it is fun until it isn't. I own the M10 and the type 246 for digital but they are not my working ("reliable") camera by any stretch. they are more like a fun camera to use for recording moments on days I don't shoot film (if I had the fujifilm, I might very well not need the digital M haha)

There is a market for items made from unobtanium. Leicas, the clothes advertised in the New York Times magazine, McLarens, 200 ft motor yachts, mansions on the ICW, etc. We don't need any of that stuff, but for some people it is pocket change.

For that matter, one doesn’t need ANY particular camera. I bought several Leica cameras because I liked their build quality and design simplicity. Of course, I wish they were much less costly, but I don’t regret buying them.

Sour grapes perhaps - but it's interesting to note that the most famous and influential photographs of all time were captured by infinitely cheaper film cameras. It's the photographer, not the camera, that makes the image. Next year there will be the M12, and then the M13 and so on. Just like the latest super-car, wristwatch, yacht and so on. The saying "a fool and his money are easily parted" was never more relevant than it is here.

If you think you can judge image quality based on some test shots in a KZbin video, then you are too dumb to own a camera of any kind.

A professional, a real professional (i.e. a business person), would have to demonstrate the return on investment is there. Is it worth paying $9k for something where the only point of difference is being a digital rangefinder? Maybe.

@@LessLonely Leica give great support to people who use their cameras; additionally, anything Leica is great SEO (I'm guessing your video is going to get good traction). Add to that, the perception that someone who uses such a thing must be good. It's a valid marketing tool.
