I’m a 59 year old white conservative guy in the south. Y’all are a beautiful and inspiring couple. I really enjoy listening to and learning from your conversations. You have been a source for my learning and education about a variety of subjects and especially around race issues. While I don’t necessarily agree with race labeling in many cases, I think that whatever it takes to develop healthy, loving relationships and families in any community of people, and in y’all’s case the the African American community, is a good thing. Family is so important in the development and health of communities. We have come a long way in improving race relations, but there is still a LOT we can do. Y’all are definitely doing your part to talk about issues in an honest and loving way. Keep doing you!! Thank you for the time and effort you put in to your content.

I was in an interracial relationship. I'm white and my girlfriend was black. I was preparing to marry her and her parents made her leave me. I asked why,what was it I did that they felt was wrong so I could maybe try to rectify it and they told me to my face I couldn't because it was that I'm white. Her mother told me she'd never let her daughter date a white person and had a bunch of other colourful language for me that I won't repeat here. Their daughter didn't like it but ended up listening to them. I treat people as individuals so it didn't change my opinions about anyone or anything. I know that's just my story and its therefore anecdotal but I just thought I would throw it in the conversation.

Similar situation for me in high school. We never got close to marriage, only managed a few dates. We were getting very close, I was mad for her and though we were far to young, I was thinking she COULD be "the one". Then we started getting the threats, including death. Me from the Black guys, and her from the White girls. Folks that wouldn't have anything to do with either of us under any other circumstance, and that in itself was a large part of why we even found each other in the first place. I wish we both could have been stronger, even if it never went anywhere...

This was a great discussion today. I, also, have never heard someone say "black love" or "white love". As a white woman in her 60's, I remember going to a mostly black school in the 1960's. Nothing was ever mentioned in any class about race. My father (a white man from the deep south) was a butcher in a black neighborhood for many years. His customers loved him so much and he would stock items just for them that I had never heard of or eaten. My late husband and I lived in a multicultural neighborhood and all the neighbors loved one another well regardless of race. When my husband became ill, a black gentleman across would shovel our walk in the winter and cut our grass in the summer without asking. I feel so fortunate that we had experiences with all sorts of people and we all loved one another. Sorry for going on so long but I so appreciate that you brought this up today and it gives me hope knowing that as you learn you are in turn teaching us about things we would never have thought of. Shout out to Mia for being such an intelligent young lady. You've raised her well.

@@quentindillon953 It takes more people rejecting the old racial concepts for it to dissipate. And we slowly see that happening over time, with each new generation. There still might be incidents where race is a factor, but the idea that we must base our lives around these archaic concepts about race is unhealthy/regressive. Many arguments that continue to support these false racial concepts are born out of fear. People say things like "I'm black because society says I'm black" or "you know you'll be treated differently since you're black," and other similar statements. And if it's being done for those reasons/fears, then it's a form of bondage that must be broken by each individual. But, as for society, there is a good argument that racial tensions and issues would lessen if we spent less time focusing on them. For example, it would be beneficial if the government and other large institutions stopped using the slavemaster's definition of race in America. It's not scientifically accurate nor reflects group differences very well. It's okay to account for differences, such as ethnicity and/or genetic makeup. However, continuing to frame everything using the slavemaster's racial lens is a disservice to everyone as it perpetuates those racial 'types' forever.
@quentindillon9532 жыл бұрын
@@scratchpenny I get it but not talking or focusing on the problem is not healthy for black people because most people biases becomes normalized.Thats like having a hole in the roof of your home and saying just because I don't think about that hole it well overtime fix itself in time So forgetting overt racism only becomes covert rascism which is far more harmful.
@scratchpenny2 жыл бұрын
@@quentindillon953 My point is not about ignoring verifiable racism and discrimination. Rather, my point is that the grand narrative approach about racism and embracing the old racial designations don't benefit us. On the contrary, it harms actual progress by building racial narratives through strong emotions that may not be accurate. As Alex Haley admitted about 'Roots,' he gave "his people a myth to live by" rather than the complete truth. And whether one is black, white, or other, people start believing these myths/narratives without ever knowing if they are verifiably true. And that perpetuates a false reality (bias/stereotypes/etc.) from one generation to the next, thereby continuing the internalized racial problems within all peoples. So the framework of how race is defined and used in our society, most harmfully when inaccurate, plays a significant role in how we perceive racial problems. And can anyone rightly claim that the slavemaster's definition of race, still used in America today, accurately represents the differences within and outside our race? One must start in objective reality if one wants to produce a measurable change for themselves and for others. Thus, instances of racism and discrimination claims must be verified and proven through causal evidence. Otherwise, we get an endless loop of internal bias/beliefs primarily driven by subjective feelings and perceptions rather than actual verifiable proof. And since subjective feelings change from one person to the next, you can't rely on them to effectively improve society through policy/decisions/regulations. So the discussion must be objective to avoid the false narratives, lies, grift, emotionalism, etc., that come with discussions of race. Maybe a better way to put it is not that we shouldn't focus on issues relating to race but that we should do it more accurately through objective measures. The current approach seems to be failing us.

I was having a conversation with a friend, she’s black, and her ideals in her marriage are the same as mine. We love and respect our husbands. We understand how hard they work to support and provide for their family. We do for our husbands ; we make sure their clothes are washed and ready, we have a meal on the table, we get their coffee and lunch ready for them in the morning. I’ve been married for 32 years, she’s still in the honeymoon stage with her current husband and we agree that date nights are very important in a relationship. I've been married for 45 years and while we've been called a beautiful couple, we've NEVER been called a white couple. After 20 years people still would ask us if we were newlyweds. For me personally, what draws my attention isn't so much the couple's color but how they look at each other, it's all in the eyes. I haven't seen many black couples who have that look, that look that tells the world they deeply love each other and have for a long time. A couple that you can tell by their motions that they have been "in the harness" together. They sort of anticipate the other's movements, emotions, speech. It seems to be increasing in the black community, and that makes me feels good just because seeing ANY couple with that love look gives me a little inner happy giggle. To answer the question about black love. At the time, I just have my inner happy giggle and feel like you do when you are a kid and see Grandaddy kiss Granny, that little frizzle of happiness. Later on, you know how you replay the day in you're head, then I think more about the details. That's when I think about what they looked like, what they were doing, where I was. Does that make any sense?

I am glad to see any couples and families together. I think it is nice to see couples love each other and families that have both parents and how much happier the kids are with both parents. But I have noticed commercials will not show a white couple now, it is really rare to see that now one tv. It is always mixed race or black couples or any other color together but a white couple is hard to even find on TV. Statistics are actually changed to the point that most households do not have both parents. I think it should just be "how nice it is to see love and families growing together" without worrying about what race the people are. I know without God in the home marriages cannot really last because no matter the race you have to cover your spouse with grace. Because we are made to love each other but we struggle to overlook the other's faults and see their needs. So we have to be willing to decide to show love and show kindness to reach other. I firmly believe that fathers are so important to the outcome of their kids. I have been married for 26 years and it is a beautiful thing but it is not always easy. But we have to choose to grow together and to include each other. That is part of what I love about watching you together. You are growing together. That is beautiful for any couple and family.

It wasn’t that long ago that black families were forcefully torn apart. So I think the connections black families have today are super important and super strong for that reason. I grew up in city with a high school named for the founder of the KKk, so I didn’t grow up feeling connected to my white race. I often was envious of the strong connections that the black families in my neighborhood had and wished I wasn’t white. I wished I had a family that would even want to have a family reunion( never had one in my family ever). Black love is strong because it was forged in adversity and it is something to notice and strive for no matter the race.

I was not raised to be racist or biased toward anyone for any reason. In my day the schools were still segregated. I believe love is love. It is the same for all people. If I heard someone say black love my first thought would be why do they want to separate themselves from everyone else. Hypocrisy is in all races of people. I do not have a problem with mixed race couples. I believe the mixing of the races is what will bring about a big decline in racism. I say it that way because I do not believe racism will ever end. There will always be those who hate because of race. I do see a lot of blacks who blame their problems on the whites but I also see a lot of blacks that have been very successful in life and do not understand why other blacks blame whites. Being called an Uncle Tom. If anyone takes the time to read the book Uncle Tom's Cabin it is a story denouncing slavery and racism. Being called an Uncle Tom is actually a compliment. I do want to ask a question. Why is it ok for a black to call another black the N word but not ok if other races, especially whites, to do it??? Whether it is said with an A at the end or an ER it is still the same nasty derogatory word. Just my thoughts. Love your channel and videos.

Only black folks get away with using it, just like only black folks get away with Rapping about hateful “N’s” killing each other, degrading & banging their women as Hoes & Sluts, killing police officers, Glorifying Gangsta life with a road to prison or coffins, all while pumping their bodies with illegal drugs they’re dealing & buying. In my elementary years, we were tasked to look up the definition, write down Everything,& then use it to describe someone Other than a black person. I can’t quote it word for word now,& have no idea if Webster has also changed that definition, like they have other words to appease the PC & SJW’s, but it was Anyone who wasn’t clean, who lived in subpar housing conditions,& were uneducated aka Societal Throwaways, no matter their color. It also listed a derogatory slang word used on black folks as the Last of definitions. White Appalachian folks fit the main definition, & Trailer Trash is just a nicer sounding phrase that hurts folks just as bad. MY questions are, as Perpetual Victims of Slavery, how they’ve come to think All white people owned slaves, when it was maybe 1%,& how did All white people fight to Keep slavery when there’s Evidence of Many white folks(even from the South), who died or permanently disabled, fighting in part, to end slavery, throwing their own families further into poverty? And How do they reconcile Supporting Child & Adult Slave Labor Today, that their Athletic Heroes playing a Game, use to make higher profits in our Capitalism Country, that’s gotten too many of their children Murdered in the process of Stealing their”Merch”? These Very Rich Game Players, driving Very expensive cars, living in Multimillion dollar mansions Far from the “Hood” they grew up in, Constantly Remind their fans that they are Oppressed & Victims, but not One or One of their teams, have opened a factory Here, to employ the Victims, bring them dignity through work, & lifting them from poverty, making their “Merch”!!!

"White Love"? That does hit different than hearing a black person saying "Black Love". I'm a white man, and hearing "Black Love" doesn't offend me. I understand that a black person could be put off if they heard "White Love". I do have a question that I've asked myself for a long time. Where did the whole black and white thing start? I'm a white guy, but my skin isn't actually white. I have never met a black person whose skin is actually black. I know that is a loaded question, and it isn't meant poke fun at anyone. What do y'all think? I have enjoyed watching your channel, and y'all sharing your journey. ONE PEOPLE ONE LOVE

I've taken it as a positive thing, something that brings about smiles and I'm all for that. Once at a party, a grandma said it and then gave me a little nudge and asked me if I was jealous and wanted some of that. Wink and a smile moment. The only time I've done the uncomfortable shuffle was when a gentleman said it and then gave a long hard look at his nephew...who was married to a white girl. PS...whoever raised this young woman deserves a damn medal. She has got a head on her shoulders and can go some places. I've a son who is single bout her age....he's white though;)

Being from a proud European background, I can definitely shed some light on this. Euros speak in terms of heritage pride, and color isn’t a tagline to everything we say or do. For instance…… I’m 1/3 Italian, 1/3 German and 1/3 Spanish. I can honestly say in my entire life, I nor anyone in our families have said “ We are proud White Germans/Italians/Spaniards”, our pride is in our background/heritage. Perhaps encouraging fellow family members to search their genealogy, and research your heritage, traditions, celebrations and things that make you unique. For instance……… I’ve friends and coworkers from various different regions of Africa, some of their differences are slight and some are vast. The differences between folks from Nigeria and those from the Ivory Coast. So to give you a straight forward answer(my wife is Latina and her family agrees), saying “Black Love” isn’t offensive/racist/passive aggressive, other cultures just don’t understand injecting color into everything as a point of pride. My wife is from Ecuador, and has a deep pride in her culture and a loving connection with fellow Latino as I do with my Italian brothers and sisters. Although she is a proud Latina, there’s a healthy fun camaraderie with her friends from Puerto Rico/Spain/Brazil/Mexico and Argentina. This is the exact same camaraderie we Euros have between each other. In short, put aside the crutches of color and embrace your heritage. Ask yourselves, what makes my family unique amongst blacks(American, African or otherwise)? It’s not color, that’s your commonality🤔. Love your channel, do a series of videos on your genealogy and you’ll be surprised at the treasure your heritage has in store for you. 💪🏻🇪🇸 💪🏻🇮🇹 💪🏻🇩🇪

I feel like we will never understand each other as long as we let race define and divide us. I'm white and so enjoy watching you guys. I love the good vibes you guys give. The way you talk, interact with each other, and share yours views is no different than my family. We have common ground. We all have struggles within our races but in the end we just want to live life, enjoy our families, and do good for others. The color of one's skin or cultural differences shouldn't define a relationship with anyone. It's character, the heart of a person, and respect that sparks a relationship. And you are right about ration thinking, it's key to uniting instead of dividing. I personally would not insert race into describing you or anyone else as a couple for fear of being labeled as a racist by some. So see that's a struggle for me as a white person, being conscious of trying not to offend anyone or being labeled something that I know I am not. It shouldn't be that way for anyone. Good evening Half & Jai, thank you for your conversations and I encourage your search and quest to elevate. In an answer to your question, I'm an American Mexican, and amongst mexicanos, we don't include our race when admiring anyone, their relationships or their marriages. It's just not something in our community. I grew up in an all black neighborhood and did notice that black people often pointed out race. I believe it's a learned behavior that's created negative barriers, perhaps as a wall of protection. Just like all cycles, it takes a brave step to allow yourself to heal and change those behaviors, views, beliefs, verbage. No one can do that for anyone else. I feel you all are on a very good path. God continue to bless you all. 💙

I'm white. If I heard a black person say "That's a beautiful black couple" my first reaction would be to think that the person who said it was wanting black people to stick to their own and I wouldn't like that and yes, as soon as you include race in the statement it's racist. I do really see Half's point though about the "absent father" stats and I do also feel happy for strong black families as I think we need more of that and less single mothers(of all races). If a white person said "That's a beautiful white couple" I'd feel the person is definitely racist in a "bad" way. Let's just leave the race thing out of it as much as possible apart from looking at stats that can help us understand and progress.

@@soulfireonfire6423 Agreed. I don't think it necessarily means the person who says that is racist, as it doesn't imply anything about other races, nor is it malicious. I’m not Mexican, my Uncle Jessie was born and raised in Mexico City. He was the youngest of 9 and the only boy. A family from Detroit vacationed there every year and they sponsored all 9 kids for immigration. Uncle Jessie came to the states at 23 was naturalized at 25 meet my mothers sister at 27 and married her at 29 buried his wife at 60. My family, including his 12 kids are military or married to military, so we are spread out all over the country. At the age of 78 Uncle Jessie could no longer live alone. All of the kids would take him in to live with them but he would always find a way to go back to Detroit. Finally he told them to put in in assisted living as long as it was in Detroit. He passed at the age of 84 in his beloved Detroit. That is the Uncle and godfather that raised me every summer to give my parents a brack on having to deal with all of my crap. I miss him every day. And then there are the cousins and grandkids of 6 other so called minority people. In my family they are identified as LOVED.

I watch you because of your personalities... which are great, btw. I really believe the vast majority of people relate to each other on an individual basis and don't pay attention to stereotypes. I believe that by classifying something as either black, brown, white or any of the other colors describing skin or race ... especially in something a universally human as love...does separate and divide, which by saying it with the color distinction is the intention.

If you're constantly told what you can't do, or that no one will give you a chance, you have to fight hard not to accept that and give up trying. If you've got a family or friends that encourage you consistently, the story will turn out differently. Media, music, politicians, CRT all tell the first story and ignore the second one.

I'm probably going to comment more than once as I watch this so I don't forget what I want to say. First of all, thank you for having this conversation. I just started watching your channel and I LOVE what you give us. It's so needed. You are making a difference. Please know that. You may upset some people, but you're speaking truth and that is beautiful. As far as Jai's question about "black love" ... I've never heard that expression. Granted I'm a 58 year-old white woman, but ... lol. That being said, I discovered you all last night while my husband was already sleeping. Today, I told him, "I want you to watch this new couple I found on KZbin. They are awesome." I told him a bit about what I'd watched and I said, "I just love their energy. They are an amazing couple expanding their minds and you can tell that they are so in love And it's obvious that he absolutely adores her, he is so sweet with her." It wasn't about "black love" for me. (Whatever that means.) It was about the true love and dedication and respect you all have to each other as husband and wife. I mean ... Jai put lotion on Half's elbows in the middle of a vid because he was ashy ... lol. So, while I don't feel that the term "black love" is racist, I don't know that it is necessary to describe love with a particular race adjective. It's just love and respect and admiration for each other and what you each bring to the table. Black, white, Asian, Hispanic ... whatever. What y'all have is a dedicated relationship built on a deep love you feel for one another. I think sometimes, people come up with phrases like this to foment racism. Just my take.

What a great video! Compassionate and deep. Something one of my closest friends told me was that growing up as black man felt like he could never take a deep breath and he couldn't figure out why. Eventually people kept telling him "its because of that person or those people" and it developed that anger inside him until he walked around with it all the time. It got to the point where that anger was all he had and made it so that every single decision he made was out of anger whether it was life, love, work, etc. That always stuck with me for some reason. Anyway, thanks for the great video! Looking forward to the next episode

As the offspring of interracial couple and the stuff they had go through (which was pretty mild considering earlier times) it does strike me as odd that people still want to put everyone in a box. It makes it easier to make sense of the world when everything's in it's little box but the world isn't like that. Love is above color, love is above blood, we all know this but it's safer to stay with what you know (with your tribe and it'ss way of thinking) but especially as Americans (Christians before that if you are of the faith) we have a duty go beyond that, "to love the lord your God, and to love your neighbor as yourself...is the way to eternal life".

I’ve never commented on KZbin before. This is a great conversation! In my experience, as a white man who grew up in a very conservative area, I never experienced bigotry against anyone based on what we are now calling “race”. We are all of the same race. We only differ in ethnicity based upon where our ancestors originated. That being said, I grew up and joined the military and fought with all walks of life and sadly, the majority of the bigotry I encountered were increasingly from minorities. I can honestly say that throughout my life, from high school on, my white friends and I have had discussions about how difficult it is to truly make strides in the right direction as a nation when the minority groups vote against their own interests and ostracize any opposing viewpoints. In my experience, most of the white people I’ve met around the world have all expressed frustration about being treated as, and called, racist by minority groups when we’ve spent our lives trying to help and support progress. Real progress, not handouts and welfare type policies but actual opportunities to improve. No one can ever prosper on welfare because it’s designed to keep people dependent. Real prosperity is when they step out of your way. God bless! Love is love period. Love is spiritual and of God. The spirit is not racial. Only human beings recognize such trivial differences in what accounts to nothing more than skin color and certain other physical attributes. Love is of the spirit and thus is above all Earthly matters. I’m sorry this is so long. Lol. I’ll sign off now. Love you guys!
