What a stunning video. Andrea and mom your garden looks beautiful. All that tomatoes and gherkins. I am so glad hubby is at home. I love tomatoe jam and dried some for pasta and pitza and put some of the dried tomatoes in olive oil with garlic and pickling spice. That rack in the kitchen is absolute fantastic. Greetings for you and Omar, your mom, sister, and Simon. ❤ Granny South Africa

I really want to dry some tomatoes. I should really either build one or just get something for now. I have so many more tomatoes coming but they are mostly cherry tomatoes. I adore sundried tomatoes on bread with a bit of pesto! Omars mum also suggested tomato jam, might be a South African thing? Should try it too!

What a cool and enjoyable project! It turned out beautifully just as you imagined it. It's a thing that makes such a huge difference in the quality of everyday life. And it's another accomplishment in the ongoing transformation of your property. This year your far more comfortable container home is becoming even more supportive; your garden is productive and bountiful; and i noticed behind you an old tree that's been beautified with the addition of flowers planted around it and a border defining the path passing in front of that area... and in the time to come your property will continue to grow visually richer and redefined. I am so happy you have you Mama with you helping with the garden and your builder brothernlaw leading the rebuilds, you talented two are much blessed. I wondered why you hadn't used your local healthcare system to seek counseling. But on 2nd thought, i realized BetterHelp is far more convenient for folks in places where F2F counseling isn't as practical. It's a wonderful way to get support without having to leave home and when sessions suit your time frames. I think i might like to give this a try when a need arises 🙂👍🏼. Thanks for the lovely vlog 🤗.

Hey Ruth! Thank you for your comment. Yes the tiny house is becoming way more Comfortable and it’s almost finish. We only need decorating but then with the build, we want to prioritise continuing it rather than spending on the tiny house but then you do want to completely everything 100% so there that dilemma haha. This year does feel like things are on full swing but next year we are adding more productive land and animals because we do want to be more self sufficient and the garden this year has been more to experiment with and see what works and doesn’t. We rather experiment on a small area rather than expand too much and loose too many crops due to inexperience. Our tomatoes were much happier this year but none of our beetroots grew well and I think it’s because we left them on the ground too long. About counselling, I much better communicate in English and Spanish than in Portuguese so I thought it would be better to seek a therapist online so I can communicate in English. They also give you options such as someone who’s more firm, or gentle… maybe you only want a female therapist or a faith-based one.. so there is lots of options as they are worldwide. There are also group sessions so you have a therapist leading the group and we all talk. For example there are group sessions on grief, traumas, empty nesters, coping with life changing events, body-image, etc. There is a little bit for everyone and it’s usually a 90-minute session to allow you to be vulnerable without fear. I have done several group sessions and they are quite positive. Overall it’s been a positive experience for me. I changed therapist first time around because I didn’t click so I’m glad I can also changed easily to another therapist if needed.

What a lovely addition to your kitchen! You guys are so gifted in designing and building simple yet very attractive things! Well done! I'd love to have the fermenting pickles recipe! I missed the amount of water and salt part. Also, the little green leaves in the bottom of the tomato juice jars, what was that? Thank you for sharing your sweet kitty song! We don't have any cats, but in the future, I'm sure I'll be thinking if special little songs for the kitties I happen to see! I'm sorry you are grieving a loved one, many of us are in the last few years! I pray also that the Father in Heaven will comfort and encourage your heart in a very special way that only HE can! Big hug! (Pan Lid) Mary! 🤗💞
@TheIndigoEscape4 ай бұрын
Ah Thanks Mary! What a sweet comment. Thats very kind of you! The ratio you want for water and salt is 3.8%-4.2% so if you have 100ml of water you add 4.2 grams of salt. I personally found 4.2 a bit salty so as long as you go 3.8% and above, you will have the environment for fermentation. I also think not adding dill was something I regret, I just couldn't find it. So I highly recommend adding dill and definitely add bay leaves as the tannins help the cucumbers stay crunchy! Im sorry I didn't add the legend for the tomato jars, I thought I did. Those were basil leaves :) Please let me know how it goes! Cats are such great companions. We have three and they are all so different, what crazy different personalities they have. They are independent but like attention and they all have their own favourite foods. I love my cats and Im so grateful for their company. Yes, I think my grief has transformed and Im sure it will again as time heals. Im glad I have someone to talk to about it with no guards so she can help me through it. I have learn a lot this past weeks.

When tomatoes are not ripening in a batch you can wash and cut the few that are ready and drop in a plastic container (or an empty washed waxed cardboard box like a milk carton) and leave in freezer. Keep adding tomatoes as they ripen. When container or 2 are full you can pull up and cook/process and jar in a quantity that is worth all the work.

@TheIndigoEscape3 ай бұрын
No, please don’t use wax for canning, it’s actually not recommended anymore as it can easily let mold form! That’s why we use metal lids nowadays. While the product and the jar is hot, add the metal lid immediately after and while it cools it makes a vacuum effect, sealing the contents inside. nchfp.uga.edu/how/can/general-information/preventing-spoilage/

If I may give you a tip for the weight on top of the pickles,I usually use the same salty water/saline to fill a plastic bag and put it on top of the pickles.This way,if it gets busted somehow,the saline water won't ruin your pickles OR I cover the top with a couple of cabbage leaves.Both are simple,but very practical methods that I myself use
@TheIndigoEscape4 ай бұрын
Brilliant tip for sure! I actually filmed other solutions but I thought it may be too long and viewers may find it boring 😅 so I didn’t show when I tried the bag with brine and another stone I had that you can use if it’s sterile. I think I just didn’t have enough space for the bag and just used the ash tray as it fitted really well but yes the bag is probably the best idea as it doesn’t ruin the solution. I think I will also try more like a 3.9% ratio next time as I found it a bit too salty for my taste but in all I loved it!! Cabbage leaves! I will try that one next time!

Hey ppl, Let me give you a quick tip about furniture. Where we live (and where you're from too), pine wood is a total no-go because of the crazy humidity we all have to deal with in this country. The best option is always marine plywood (contraplacado maritimo). That's the only way you'll have furniture that'll last a lifetime. Keep up the great work, you guys are crushing it!
@TheIndigoEscape4 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for your advice. I’ll check where we can get some of those materials because at LM… I don’t think they stock it
@bibatuga55014 ай бұрын
@@TheIndigoEscape Absolutely not, guys. Seriously ?🤯 You shop at LM? You're getting totally ripped off.💸 They have the highest prices on materials, hands down. MM is your go-to spot; that's where I get all my supplies. For lumber, check out the sawmill area, they'll hook you up with better deals. Avoid LM like the plague. Keep crushing it.🦾
@TheIndigoEscape4 ай бұрын
@@bibatuga5501we mostly shop at our local stores specially contrition materials, paint, etc. but many of them don’t store wood. There is one in Arganil but it’s a bit more expensive. So, when we have to, we shop at Leroy Merlin. Do you have another recommendation in coimbra? Otherwise, we don’t have that many options around here.
@AncientEgyptArchitecture3 ай бұрын
@@TheIndigoEscape You might be able to go online and find a large wholesale lumber supplier in Portugal that will ship to you. A lot of woodworkers in the states have switched to doing that because the material comes to them rough cut to their specs and the total cost is very affordable. A previous commentor is right though, avoid solid wood, especially softwoods, and start learning to use plywood. Edge banding is a little fiddly but the straightness and stability of the material will save you time and last forever. Something else to learn is veneering, you can buy very budget plywood and cover the exterior with gorgeous veneers from a variety of wood species, perhaps there is also a veneer supplier in Portugal ( I would bet on it ) The possibilities with veneering your own projects in limitless. Check the link for some examples of pieces I've made from a combination of veneers on plywood mixed with solid legs and edge banding. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJOuZaJnadGBbJI (P.S. be sure to select HD in the playback settings to watch. )😁

Does your Mother ever can, cook, or bake? Will you, your Mother, and sister ever take a girl's day trip or vacation?😊

Your white captions go by really fast. Otherwise I enjoy your videos and have watched for awhile. You both did an incredible job making the cabinet!

@@TheIndigoEscape Great fun, I was just out of my depth ,that Kalahari sand monster got me, it's a beast. Did Sani Pass no worries, did a border run along the Botswana border, awesome saw a humongous Boabab tree you could hide two 4door Landrovers behind it. Very nice way to see the world, the slower the bike,the more you see

I would like to pass on a tip if you're going to be painting more furniture. Use better brushes they clean up very easy. If you can hear those bristles its too hard. Wood glue the seems will help male it more sturdy ❤ otherwise carry on 😁 Lacey and Huxley ⚘❤

That’s true! Thanks for the tips! Specially the glue tip! Will do for our next build which is coming up soon!
