I had two dogs that genetically lost their sight....our younger dogs led them around and went to fetch them when they wandered. No instruction from us, just did it naturally...dogs are truly amazing

My sweet boy is going deaf as he gets older. He is a border collie and turns 14 this month. He absolutely loves my dad but he can’t hear when my dad comes home anymore. When he sees my dad though, he jumps around like crazy. I love that dog so much

Maybe you can start adding signs for certain things when you say them, like "Dad." I know there are various guides, videos, and books about teaching a dog sign language. You may already have some gestures you display when telling him certain commands. It would be a lovely way to be able to continue to communicate with him. I had a blind chow her name was little bear cuz she was exactly look like bear that's why we name her little bear . She had the best life lived 15 years Doggies are family ❤️

This just shows the intelligence and companionship of our wonderful dogs and their fellow dogs. Personally, I believe the reason you never knew at first Levi was deaf, was because he was 'guided' to you and your special home. Also, if I was choosing from a litter of puppies and told at the time that one of them was deaf or blind (although a challenge) that would be the pup I would 'definitely' choose. Just because it has more odds against it...and all we need to do is be patient and loving and he it will grow no different than any other dog if you have cared and overcome it's 'initial' disability. You must be so proud of Maisy also, for being so attentive towards Levi.Well done to you both!. R.I.P Max.

This makes me want to cry my eyes out because I had 2 chinchillas that were like this. They were brothers and one was completely deaf and blind when it got older. We would let them out of the cage to run around and the blind one would follow his brother around to learn where obstacles were. Otherwise he would just bounce around softly feeling his surroundings. They both lived to be 14 years old. The blind one died shortly after his brother went to sleep and never woke up again. I miss them very much.

I have a deaf aussie I rescued. I didn't know anything about aussies and learned through his rescue that some breeders don't care and purposely breed 2 aussies they shouldn't because they want to increase the chances of getting a litter with nice eyes, fur & etc because they make way more selling dogs with blue eyes & etc. Bht the downside is sometimes dogs like mine come out deaf, blind or both and alot of times they euthanize them. The rescue i got my dog from rescues these dogs so they won't get euthanized
