I have worked with the Royal Marines as a civilian and I found them to be very professional and courteous. However I think we are seeing more ex military joining the Police and they don't care for civilians and taking the military "threat" approach to the population, this is particularly evident in the USA, brutal tactics and emptying magazines into people "until the threat is neutralised". Unfortunately the Police in the UK are starting to imitate this behaviour and attitude. My brother in law was in the firearms unit and left for the same reason as your Dad, he was particularly scathing of the standard of recruits now joining the Police. When I was young the Police were the good guys, now I begin to wonder. The Police are no longer enforcing the law, they are enforcing the will of the Government, which is often in variance to the will of the populace..........This copper's behaviour is unbelievable.......well maybe not.

@deductivevariance34974 жыл бұрын
It is not a feeling. He was genuinely under threat. The man acting as officer of the law was (other than talking aggressively, pointing index finger) holding his telescopic baton indicating that he is about to smash the car's window (damage to property) and risk injuring a fellow man, while the man in the car was not threatening and was doing everything to communicate in a very civil fashion. This kind of behaviour just because of the colour of a man's property? Wow.... It's supposed to be 'governed by consent' - not 'controlled by force'.
@tlangdon124 жыл бұрын
Assaulting the officer would not be justified, Only if the member of the public was genuinely in fear for their life would such an assault be justified. (If you assailant an officer because you were in fear for your life you should drive straight to a police station and report the incident, then say nothing until your solicitor arrives) I know many commenters will think that an assault should be justified in this situation, but the police are appointed to do a job, and you can’t assault someone for doing their job badly. It’s an over-reaction. You can complain and you can prosecute, but it is my view is that you can’t assault unless you are in fear for your life.

I agree. The traffic offence of painting your car a different colour to its registered colour is a very low level offence unless it has been done hastily as part of covering up a crime. Observing even a semi-professional respray should have alerted this experienced officer to the fact that the mismatch was a curiosity that needed investigating and not a crime. The driver also had an account for the mismatch, which should have caused the officer to seek advice (and calm down further).

He didn't check how many people where in the car which is odd as he seemed so concerned for his safety. I would have presumed police do a quick risk assessment of a situation but he appeared to go in 'all guns blazing' (Thank God he didn't have one of those). There could have been kids/minors sitting in the backseat while he smashed the car window in around them. Bizarre and erratic behaviour.
